00:00 An anti-graft watchdog has voiced apprehension over the multi-lane free-flow project for
00:06 all highways in the country, citing the appointment agreement approved last year as a major concern.
00:13 Malaysian Corruption Watch President Jais Abdul Karim said the lack of involvement by
00:16 other potential bidders or stakeholders might undermine trust in the transparency of the
00:21 agreement's award.
00:23 Jais emphasised the importance of addressing such concerns and urged the government to
00:28 re-evaluate the decision-making procedures and ensure greater transparency.
00:34 Last week, FMT reported that 32 highway toll concessionaires had protested the government's
00:38 move to directly award the MLFF project to a private company.
00:43 However, Works Minister Alexander Nandalingi said the award for the project had yet to
00:47 be finalised and that the government only approved an appointment agreement on the MLFF
00:53 concept on November 17 last year, after the Cabinet evaluated the matter.
00:59 Transparency International Malaysia President Mohamad Mohan said it was premature to assess
01:03 the government's transparency in the project since Nanda had said that the deal was not
01:07 final.
01:08 However, he maintained that any direct negotiation for the RM3.46 billion MLFF project is unacceptable.
01:16 Meanwhile, transport expert Rosli Khan said the government should have encouraged the
01:20 32 toll concession companies to form a consortium to implement the MLFF toll collection method.
