00:00 Because of the sudden increase in the number of COVID-19 cases,
00:03 the Philippine General Hospital has again implemented the mandatory wearing of face masks
00:09 not only for their healthcare workers but also for those who will visit the hospital.
00:13 Mark Fetalco in the report live. Mark.
00:16 Rise and Shine Philippines, again implemented the mandatory wearing of face masks
00:25 in front of the increase of the number of respiratory illnesses.
00:30 In the absence of the PGH, it is mandatory to wear face masks again
00:37 for all of its medical personnel and for the visitors.
00:40 The PGH recommends wearing surgical masks.
00:44 According to our people who spoke here at the PGH,
00:47 they do not want to return the face masks as a protection against the disease.
00:52 Even if I don't wear it since the pandemic, it's still hard.
00:58 I might still get COVID if that happens.
01:04 Because the cases of respiratory illnesses are increasing,
01:08 especially for me, I'm on duty at the hospital.
01:13 I can attest that our sales of antibiotics are increasing.
01:16 So, as a protection for people, it's okay for me to return the face masks.
01:22 Especially in the hospital, there are a lot of respiratory illnesses.
01:27 So, we really need to wear face masks.
01:30 The mask mandate implemented by the PGH is in accordance with the increase of COVID-19 cases in the country last week.
01:39 According to the Department of Health, more than 1,800 new COVID cases were recorded from December 5 to 11.
01:46 This is equivalent to 260 daily average cases and 36 percent higher than the previous week.
01:54 According to PGH spokesperson Dr. Jonas Del Rosario,
01:58 eight of their patients tested positive for COVID-19, six of whom are children.
02:03 The two adults are mild.
02:07 We call it incidental COVID.
02:10 They were admitted to the PGH primarily for other diseases.
02:14 They have comorbidity but they tested positive for COVID.
02:20 In Pedia, there are two severe cases of COVID pneumonia.
02:25 The remaining four are mild to moderate.
02:31 Dianne, the Department of Health reminded the public not to be complacent, especially regarding the COVID-19.
02:42 That is all for the latest updates. Back to you, Dianne.
02:45 Thank you very much, Mark Fetalco.
