00:00It is expected that the printing of more than 70 million balotas for the 2025 midterm elections will be done more quickly.
00:08This is because of the new machines of COMELEC that have arrived in the country.
00:13Luisa Erizpe is in the center of the news. Yes, Luisa?
00:16Angelique, the preparation of the Commission on Elections for the election in 2025 is underway.
00:22As of today, COMELEC inspected the machines at the National Printing Office that will be used to print balotas for the automated elections.
00:32These machines are two large and new HP PageWide printing machines.
00:38Each one is worth P300 million and it came from South Korea.
00:44But aside from its importance, the beauty of these machines, COMELEC said, is that it will speed up the printing of balotas.
00:51It can print one million balotas a day.
00:55COMELEC is confident that they can reach the target of printing more than 73 million balotas for the election that will start in December and the target is to finish it by March.
01:09Hopefully, this is not the only thing that is being shown to us.
01:12Hopefully, when these machines perform, especially when October comes, we will see their performance and our expectations will be met.
01:22At the same time, this will not speed up the printing of balotas unless the quality of the balotas that we will print is good.
01:30Aside from being fast, COMELEC is hoping that the machines will be able to print thinner paper balotas, but the quality will still be good.
01:40In fact, voters will not have a problem with the new balotas.
01:44Their votes will be counted on the back of the balotas.
01:47It will not be a problem to cut the balotas because once it is printed, it will be complete.
01:53Voters should not be worried because even though it is all over Asia, only the Philippines will use these machines.
01:59The new machines have already been used in the United States and Europe.
02:04And the company that configured these machines is based in Japan.
02:11The 95GSM does not move back and forth when we use the pen.
02:17In fact, even though it used to be a 160GSM, it still moved back and forth.
02:24Hopefully, the performance of all machines will be the same.
02:28We will have field testing and we will also have mock elections.
02:34These machines will not be added to the cost of the ballot because it is already included in the contract of COMELEC and Miru Systems Company Ltd.
02:42The country is still waiting for the election.
02:44COMELEC and Miru just want to give the machines to them because it can be used for other purposes.
02:51On October 25, the machines will be turned over to COMELEC and the commission will try to print one million balotas in one day.
03:01Aside from the machines that will be used for ballot printing, COMELEC did not stop inspecting the new automated counting machines that arrived in the Philippines from South Korea.
03:12COMELEC said that a total of 17,000 machines were inspected by the commission, of which 30,000 were delivered to the country.
03:19They are still conducting hardware tests in their warehouse in Binan, Laguna.
03:24Meanwhile, one of the preparations is the filing of the certificate of emergency for the midterm elections that will start on October 1 to 8 or next week.
03:33COMELEC said that for the candidate in the national position, it will be held in Manila Hotel.
03:39For the congressman, it will be held with the governor, vice governor and Panlalawigan.
03:43It will be held in the office of COMELEC provincial supervisor.
03:47For the representative of the legislative district, it will be held in the district election office.
03:53And for the local position, it will be held in the local COMELEC office.
03:59We will monitor the filing of the candidacy in the whole country.
04:04Again, our call to those who will file the candidacy, I hope you will use the proper form of COC.
04:12You might be questioned.
04:14All the items or data requested by the certificate of candidacy should be complete.
04:22Angelique, the inspection of COMELEC is ongoing on the venue of filing of COC for the national candidate in the Manila Hotel.
04:31Although COMELEC has a big venue, they are confident that for the senators, only four should be included to file the COC.
04:39On the party list, there are three.
04:42The filing will last until October 8 and it will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
04:48That's all for now. We will return to you, Angelique.
04:50Thank you very much, Louisa Erizpe.
