Alex Donno and Liam Willerup discuss plan b quarterbacks in case Miami cannot land top target Cam Ward.
Transcript
00:00 transfer quarterbacks out there who would get you excited covering this team if Miami
00:06 can't land Cam Ward, who's your plan B?
00:09 I would say I see a couple people mentioning it in the chat and I was watching his film
00:13 a little earlier today.
00:14 I like to Quan Finn from Toledo.
00:17 This guy's super fast.
00:18 He's got some zip on the ball and he's a guy that can be improvised.
00:21 I think that's exactly what this team needs.
00:24 It's kind of what struggled under Tyler Van Dyke, who wasn't as mobile as, you know, a
00:29 guy like Finn is.
00:30 And I think that's also what Coach Dawson saw a lot of success with when he was over
00:34 in Houston.
00:35 So I think if we're not getting Cam Ward, I'd love to see D'Quan Finn come to Miami.
00:41 That's a really good call.
00:42 And another one, it's like, this is more my real second option because of his experience
00:49 and his proven dual threat abilities is Will Howard.
00:52 That's my second option, but I like D'Quan Finn a lot.
00:56 And the other guy we've been talking up here is Jordan McLeod from James Madison.
01:02 I like him a lot.
01:03 And Liam, I agree with your philosophy.
01:05 Like you talk about what Miami needs for the next year, you know, for the next multiple
01:10 years of quarterback, even if the guy you bring in is only here for a year.
01:14 We need somebody who can extend plays, right?
01:16 I mean, that's just college football, the game of football in general.
01:20 If you can have a quarterback that can extend plays and make plays with his legs, it just,
01:25 it gives you such an advantage.
01:26 And Miami's offensive coordinator, Shannon Dawson has already had success, big success
01:31 with a guy like that.
01:33 Clayton Toon, his quarterback at Houston right before he left for Miami, you know, put up
01:38 big time dual threat numbers.
01:40 So you know, to have, to be able, and listen, maybe Ja'Kari Brown can develop into that
01:44 guy if he stays, but you know, that would be great.
01:48 You know, I think, you know, Emory Williams can move a little.
01:52 He's not a dual threat guy.
01:53 I think dual threat is really something Miami should look for when it comes to this graduate
01:58 transfer, this one-year quarterback.
01:59 No, a hundred percent.
02:01 I mean, it's not like we a hundred percent need a guy that's going to have to improvise
02:05 because our offensive line play has been so great, you know, this past season.
02:09 But you know, being able to move around when your guys aren't exactly where you want them
02:13 to be is a great skill to have.
02:15 And you know, maybe McLeod can be that guy as well, but I, I'm sold on Dequan Finn from
02:21 Toledo.
02:22 I'm not sure exactly what the chatter is like there, but you know, I'd love to see that
02:26 option.
02:27 But of course, Ken Ward, number one, I mean, he's had a crazy rise in his, you know, being
02:32 from Incarnate Ward to go into Washington State, you know, why not flip over to the
02:36 ACC and come play for one of the biggest brands of college football?
02:40 Now I got, I got to bring up the name and ask you about the player.
02:43 People get mad at me every day I bring up his name, but Kyle McCord, Kyle McCord is
02:49 available.
02:50 But what if I, without mentioning the name, what if I told you this, there, there's a
02:54 guy out there who played for a major power five program and went 11 and one last year
02:59 as a full-time starter.
03:01 Would that be something you're interested in?
03:03 Kyle McCord, does that tickle your fancy?
03:06 I mean, he is number four on my list, kind of going off the list I made.
03:10 I don't think it's that bad of an option.
03:12 I think at the end of the day, it's a guy that has experience.
03:15 He's been in a room that's developed quarterbacks.
03:19 You know, look at guys such as, you know, Justin Fields that have played there, you
03:23 know, even if you want to contribute whatever Joe Burrow learned, CJ Stroud, all that, I
03:28 think you can't just go off, Oh, here's an Ohio state quarterback that couldn't beat
03:33 Michigan and so forth.
03:35 I mean, nor did CJ Stroud and CJ Stroud's one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL right
03:40 now as a rookie.
03:41 So I feel like you can't discredit that.
03:43 And who knows what a change of scenery does for a guy.
03:45 I mean, look at all these transfers that have been successful in the past.
03:48 You know, it's all because they made a switch and it became a decision that was worthwhile
03:53 for them.
