Transcript
00:00 (upbeat music)
00:02 - What's up y'all?
00:02 It's your girl, Felicia Shana with Rolling Stone
00:04 and we are here at Brooklyn Steel,
00:06 catching up with Flo Milli ahead of her
00:07 Thanks For Coming Here Ho Tour.
00:09 Now we chatted about all things projection and comparison
00:11 and just what's coming up next
00:13 for the Alabama born rapper.
00:14 - You give me life.
00:17 Every single way you give me life.
00:20 And it can't be overstated how much the girls
00:22 are winning right now.
00:24 - Oh of course.
00:25 - In a big way.
00:27 And what I love the most is that
00:28 everyone's collaborating with each other.
00:31 Tell me why you think that dynamic has changed.
00:34 Why are we there now?
00:35 And what are you hoping to do in the future
00:38 as women in hip hop continue to grow?
00:40 - Honestly, that's so interesting.
00:42 I don't know why we're there now.
00:44 Maybe because I feel like that a lot of girls
00:47 can relate to each other.
00:48 Like when I have conversations with my other peers,
00:52 I know we've had conversations where we're like,
00:55 man, you go through this too.
00:57 And I think it's just easier and better for us
00:59 and more smooth sailing to prove the haters wrong
01:02 who try to pin us against each other.
01:04 Because it's petty.
01:06 Yeah, of course, everybody's not gonna get along.
01:09 Cool, you don't have to force everything.
01:10 But when we get along, we get along.
01:12 So why fix something that's not broken?
01:16 - That's a word.
01:17 A lot of y'all need to hear that.
01:20 In an interview with Andre G,
01:22 you kind of talked about your fans coming to your defense,
01:26 but it was a bit misguided.
01:27 And I thought that was really powerful to say,
01:29 look, I'm bouncing those projections that you have
01:33 of me in my life away.
01:34 - It's crazy 'cause I didn't even know what projection.
01:38 I had to learn all that stuff on my own.
01:40 So it was crazy and I learned it through fame,
01:44 all that projection shit.
01:46 When I first started to come into this,
01:49 I used to take everything personally on the internet
01:51 that was said about me.
01:53 And then when I started to learn about things
01:55 like trauma, things like projection,
01:57 I'm like, wait, I get it.
02:00 It's not about me, it's about you.
02:02 Sometimes you could be a mirror to people.
02:05 And I feel like when you're living in your truth
02:07 and when you're living in your power,
02:09 people who are not, they get triggered.
02:11 And they don't even know why they're triggered.
02:13 They're just like, damn, this person has the audacity
02:16 to do what I've been thinking about doing my entire life,
02:18 but I just don't have the balls to do it.
02:20 And that could be triggering.
02:21 Either you could take that and be inspired,
02:23 or you could be a hater and just be miserable.
02:25 So it's like, two choices, bitch.
02:26 Choose one.
02:27 - Choose up, quickly!
02:29 We're in desperate need of y'all to choose up.
02:32 How do you stay grounded in those moments
02:34 where you feel as if maybe someone's trying
02:36 to take you off your journey or distract you
02:39 or do these things where they're like,
02:40 she's underrated and, you know.
02:42 - Yeah, they love to say that.
02:44 - Yeah, and it's like, I low-key feel like
02:47 I learned that some people just wanna hit tweet.
02:50 You gotta understand, they're trying to get out
02:52 of their situation, so they're like,
02:53 what can I say that can piss somebody off
02:55 or get this person's attention?
02:57 Again, it don't have nothing to do with me,
02:59 but I don't let that type of stuff get under my skin
03:01 because I know that I'm in a better position
03:03 than I ever was.
03:05 Like, I remember when I was nine years old,
03:07 praying on my twin bed, like, God, please,
03:10 for all the stuff that I have right now.
03:11 So it's like, nobody can ever take that away from me,
03:14 you know what I'm saying?
03:15 So it's like, that stuff don't, it just rolls off my--
03:18 - 'Cause you have to honor nine-year-old you
03:21 who was begging for this moment,
03:23 and in this moment, more than you could
03:25 probably have ever imagined.
03:26 - Right.
03:27 - And speaking of nine-year-old you,
03:29 I wanna talk about this journey that we've been on
03:31 for the last three albums,
03:32 because we've been in my VH1 reality TV dream.
03:36 So let's talk a little bit about your journey
03:37 from beef to now BGC.
03:39 What do you think is the biggest lesson that you've learned,
03:42 and what are you most excited for
03:44 in this next chapter, next phase?
03:47 - The biggest lesson I learned?
03:50 Damn, that's a good question.
03:52 I can't just say one lesson, you know?
03:55 I've learned a lot of lessons ever since beef to now,
03:59 but I guess right now, I guess I would say
04:02 how important living in the moment is,
04:05 instead of always wanting something better.
04:09 I'm that type of person, I'm like,
04:11 all right, once I reach one goal,
04:12 I don't even give myself time to sit in that.
04:17 I'm always like, all right, I gotta reach this.
04:19 And then it's like, wait, just give yourself a moment.
04:22 Look at where you're at right now.
04:24 This is what you asked for 10 years ago,
04:26 so you gotta enjoy the moment
04:29 and appreciate how far you came.
04:31 So I would say gratitude, for sure.
04:33 - We're rounding out this trilogy
04:35 with the album that's coming.
04:37 So what's gonna be the preparation
04:38 going into the next phase?
04:40 'Cause like you said, it's really personal.
04:42 So this album, I feel, is going to be a personal offering.
04:45 - Yes. (laughs)
04:46 - And then what are we gonna get going forward?
04:50 - Going forward, I feel like you're just gonna get deeper,
04:54 how do I say this?
04:56 I feel like I'm unfolding different parts of me
04:58 that people didn't know.
04:59 Because I feel like a lot of people
05:01 have tried to put me in a box
05:03 of being one specific way.
05:05 But I feel like when I introduced myself to the world,
05:08 it was a certain phase of my life.
05:10 And I feel like, of course, we're always changing.
05:12 That's what we're here to do.
05:13 So it's just showing them the growth
05:15 and different parts of me that I've never shown the world.
05:19 'Cause I am a very private person.
05:23 I like to protect my personality and everything about it
05:27 because I know how I shine.
05:29 And I know people be hatin', so it's like, yeah.
05:32 - That part. (laughs)
05:34 But to that point about protecting your personality,
05:36 I love that you've created these personas
05:38 that you're introducing.
05:39 So we have what?
05:40 We have Dirty Flo Anna.
05:41 - Yes, we got Dirty Flo Anna, Flo Ski.
05:43 - Love her.
05:44 - Florence Millionne.
05:46 - Love Florence. - And Flo Jo.
05:47 - I just love them all.
05:48 - Yes, thank you.
05:49 - If we could get them all in a room,
05:52 what do you think each of them would say
05:54 is their favorite song from your discography?
05:56 - Okay, I would say Florence Millionne
05:59 would probably say her favorite song is B-Flo Mix.
06:04 Dirty Flo Anna.
06:07 The only reason why I can't answer
06:11 is because some of the songs are not out yet.
06:13 - I knew you were gonna say that.
06:14 - Yeah.
06:15 - I knew you was gonna make me mad
06:16 and I knew you was gonna say it.
06:19 - Yeah, I just gotta be real 'cause when I was first
06:23 coming out, I feel like all of that was Florence Millionne.
06:25 Or me just finding myself and just sharing
06:29 what I had so far.
06:31 But now it's different depths of me,
06:33 so yeah, you gonna see that.
06:36 - Well, I'm upset because I really wanna know
06:37 what Dirty Flo Anna has to say.
06:39 - I can tell you that Dirty Flo Anna
06:41 is very much a cunt bitch.
06:44 If I had to give her a sign, she would be a Scorpio.
06:47 Very much sex symbol.
06:48 - I'm scared of her.
06:49 - Yeah, that's what she gives, girl.
06:51 - I'm scared of her.
06:52 I'm really so scared, y'all.
06:55 - She's nothing to play with.
06:57 She's very vengeful, very like,
07:00 you won't see her coming.
07:01 - Right.
07:02 - You won't know she's coming.
07:03 But yeah, that's her energy, that's her vibe.
07:05 - What about Floski?
07:06 'Cause I feel the most energetically aligned with Floski.
07:09 - Okay, Floski, if you ever seen my Flo Milli freestyle,
07:13 that's her vibe.
07:14 She's very much, not weird, but I would say
07:18 she's like my hippie side.
07:20 She's my smoker, skater girl,
07:23 very much chilling with the guys,
07:24 very much unpredictable, but she's cool.
07:27 She laid back and she could turn up too now.
07:31 But if I had to, her description would be right now,
07:35 I feel like I'm Floski.
07:36 'Cause she wears dreads, she's very much different.
07:40 She got the sauce, cool kid, bops.
07:42 I love her and I can't wait to see more of her.
07:45 - Actually, I wanna know,
07:46 what do you think about the fans in New York?
07:48 'Cause I was looking at your Instagram
07:49 and everybody gets a little word.
07:51 You're like, "Billy won't, won't, won't."
07:53 I don't care.
07:54 What about Brooklyn, New York?
07:56 - Wait, Brooklyn, New York is actually my favorite.
07:59 I hope nobody gets mad, but I think New York
08:02 was one of my favorite cities that I ever fell in love with.
08:06 Because I noticed New York is very different.
08:09 It never gave me bougie vibes.
08:12 It gave me kinda back home vibes
08:13 and I know that sounds crazy
08:14 'cause Alabama and New York is totally different.
08:17 But what I respect about New York is
08:19 when y'all come to have a good time,
08:20 y'all come to have a good time.
08:21 Y'all don't care about all the designer shit.
08:23 It's just like, "Bitch, I got this from the thrift store
08:25 "and I'm finna still have a good fucking time
08:28 "and look good while doing it, the fuck."
08:30 So I love it. - Look at it.
08:32 - Even when I don't do shows and I have hostings
08:34 or it's just Fashion Week, it's just real bitch vibes.
08:39 Everybody I meet from New York is just real.
08:42 I don't know.
08:43 - You heard it here first and I'm tired of telling y'all.
08:46 I really am.
08:47 I'm really tired of telling y'all.
08:48 So thank you so much for validating me.
08:51 - Yes, of course.
08:52 - And I will be clipping this so everybody knows.
08:54 - Period.
