00:03 Here's the fix for the college football playoff.
00:05 In September, before a game is played, project who's going to get there.
00:09 Take the four best teams based on the odds.
00:11 Let's fast forward and play in January.
00:13 Sound good, Donnie?
00:13 >> Well, I mean, technically, if you started this season with Brock Lennon
00:18 quarterback, Florida State might have fired Mike Norvell and
00:20 say, man, this guy can't coach.
00:22 >> Might have. >> That's just a play it with.
00:23 >> Might. >> That's the way it is.
00:24 >> Might.
00:24 >> Yeah. >> All of it is questions.
00:27 All of it is speculation.
00:29 What if not, is playing 13 football games and winning 13 football games.
00:35 That's my point, Donnie.
00:36 We look at the odds here on a sports betting network that project and
00:41 forecast what is expected and supposed to happen.
00:46 But the reason the word underdog is in our lexicon is because
00:51 things that are not anticipated often do happen, and we celebrate.
00:56 So what was Florida State expected to do after losing their starting quarterback,
01:02 Jordan Travis, probably lose one of the football games that they played in?
01:07 They did not.
01:08 They won, both of them.
01:09 What was Florida State supposed to do?
01:12 Should we have not heard from Jordan Travis despite the gruesome leg injury?
01:16 Should we have maybe all said, Jordan Travis is listed as V today.
01:20 He could be back by the start of 2024 to play in the college football playoff
01:25 semifinal, would they have made it then if that was the case, Donnie right side?
01:29 Because it seems that an injury to one player was the only difference
01:35 that left Florida State outside of the college football playoff.
01:38 Not a passing defense that ranked top ten in the country,
01:41 that held Jack Plummer to a terrible QBR as you just said.
01:46 Not a rushing defense that held things down when they needed to against Jowar,
01:50 Jordan and Isaac Arendo, who combined to average 183 yards per game for
01:55 the cards this year.
01:57 Not a running back in Trey Benson that ran for
01:59 three touchdowns against their bitter SEC rival in the swamp in Florida
02:04 to end out the regular season.
02:05 None of that mattered.
02:06 An injury to one, a quarterback, was the only difference.
02:10 What would you have liked, Donnie, sitting there in your ivory tower?
02:13 This is not a shot at you, but what would you have liked Florida State to do in
02:16 their final two games without Jordan Travis?
02:19 >> They would have had to win impressively.
02:20 That's what they would have done.
02:21 They would have had to, again, if Rodemaker threw for
02:24 300 yards against one of the worst defenses in college football,
02:28 my argument would have changed.
02:30 Even if Rodemaker got knocked out last week with just a concussion,
02:32 because we knew we'd be back.
02:34 But Rodemaker was terrible in that game against Florida.
02:36 And then the follow up with that with Brock Lund even worse than Rodemaker was.
02:40 That's what happens.
02:41 But by the way, here's my preference also.
02:43 Like yourself, Ben, you love college football ball season.
02:46 I can't stand it.
02:47 I've railed against it for almost 15 years now.
02:50 It should go away.
02:51 So shouldn't we be having, hey, Florida State, the sky's not falling.
02:54 You're going to the Orange Bowl, baby.
02:55 You're playing Georgia National Stage.
02:57 We still get to watch them play again.
02:59 So we should be happy with that, right?
03:01 Ball season is here.
03:02 >> No. >> They can get their vindication
03:05 against Georgia in a big time ball game, cuz that's what we love balls for, right?
03:09 >> Next year, Donnie, in a college football playoff when Florida State would host
03:14 the G5 highest ranked team, that was Liberty, by the way,
03:17 who was a perfect 13 and 0 despite the worst strength of schedule in college
03:21 football and yet was awarded for what they had done in winning football games,
03:26 which is very different than Florida State being left out.
03:29 Craziness there.
03:29 Donnie, talk about watching football games on Saturday night.
03:32 The number one team in the country that will host the Rose Bowl in the college
03:36 football playoff, did you see how many yards they put up against Iowa?
03:40 >> No, I mean, I watched the football game, yes.
03:44 And by the way, come on, you can't get the 27 and a half and
03:47 clear that team total, Michigan, that's what I'm most upset about.
03:50 >> Right, Florida State outgained Michigan, and this is no knock on
03:53 the Wolverines, and the Iowa Hawkeyes have a better defense than that of Louisville.
03:58 But if we're going to use yardage output as the determining key evaluation metric
04:03 to hold a team out of the college football playoff, then why is Michigan number one?
04:08 JJ McCarthy hasn't thrown for over 150 yards in four straight weeks,
04:12 even in their biggest game of the year.
04:14 He didn't attempt to pass in the second half against Penn State, and
04:18 yet they're in, no questions asked.
04:20 Michigan is deserving of it.
04:23 Michigan should be there.
04:24 They're a 13 and 0, power five, undefeated conference champion,
04:28 as is Florida State.
04:31 That's my only point, Donnie.
04:32 If we're going to use yardage, optics, and beauty pageantries,
04:36 then Michigan shouldn't be there.
04:37 Washington was a nine and a half point underdog on Friday night in Las Vegas.
04:41 Just pregame, they shouldn't have been there.
04:43 They should have got their doors blown off by Oregon.
04:45 Oh, wait.
04:46 Washington's been booked as an underdog four times in the last two years
04:50 under head coach Kalen DeBoer, when teams expected them not to win a football game.
04:54 And what have they done?
04:56 Won outright all four times.
04:59 Because at the end of the day, the final score and the result of a football game
05:03 should weigh most importantly in our lives and how we evaluate football programs.
05:08 And yet yesterday, it did not.
