00:00 Hi and welcome to another episode of Getting the Apple Land where we take a look at what's
00:14 making news this week.
00:16 I'm Dennis Howard, senior journalist and it's Bec's turn to be off this week's
00:20 seek and I know there's a few conspiracy theories flying around but I just want to
00:25 assure everyone that we are two separate people.
00:29 In news this week, Sam Townsend takes a look at what's happening in the OID space.
00:34 Sam.
00:35 Thanks Dennis.
00:36 Yes, there certainly has been some fresh rumblings over electronic identification for sheep and
00:40 goats.
00:41 Producers are calling for a halt of the national rollout of the scheme to investigate alternative
00:46 technology like ultra high frequency tags.
00:50 Fresh reports have surfaced that show that these UHF tags could in fact save the industry
00:55 $800 million over 20 years.
00:58 Debate is split on this and the jury is out whether this is the future of traceability
01:04 in Australia.
01:05 The devil's in the detail and that detail can be found in the land this week.
01:09 Back to you Dennis.
01:10 Thanks Sam.
01:11 Also making news is a more ag camp which showcased the opportunities for women in ag.
01:17 For more on that, here's Elke Devney.
01:19 Thanks Dennis.
01:20 Earlier this week we saw more than 20 young female students from across the North West
01:24 swap the classroom for a hands-on agricultural experience at Ag Camp New England.
01:29 From cotton and cattle to pig hens and aviation, the camp exposed students to the diverse employment
01:34 opportunities available in the ag industry.
01:37 Now for some it was their first time seeing cotton on farm as well as the guts of an ag
01:42 plane at Statewide Aviation.
01:45 Each student said the camp has cemented the determination to pursue a career in ag.
01:49 So who knows, in a couple of years they might be your vet, agronomist or diesel mechanic.
01:54 Back to you Dennis.
01:55 Thanks Elke.
01:56 I also have a story on NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley not supporting an inquiry into
02:01 rural crime despite 84 councils petitioning for government to look into it.
02:07 Country Mayors Association Chairman Jamie Chaffey said the Minister's response was arrogant.
02:12 In livestock, Jamie Brown has a story on the importance of feeding cows to have them ready
02:17 for breeding and the commitment it requires.
02:20 Keep an eye out next week on widespread protests of the Albanese Government's controversial
02:24 proposed Water Bill.
02:27 Basin communities, farmers and businesses are joining forces to protest the rewrite
02:31 of the Basin Plan.
02:33 You can check out all these stories on theland.com.au.
02:37 Thanks for watching and I'll see you next week.
