Where Hoodie Girl Feels Miami Basketball Stands Prior to Playing FIU
Transcript
00:00 weird. We've got the game coming up on Monday night. You've seen Miami play a couple of
00:06 times. What is it that you're looking for? Like what improvement or what area are you
00:13 concerned about? However you want to develop into it. Fire away. Like they're too low.
00:21 There's two main things I'm looking for as far as improvement with the team for FIU.
00:27 The first thing is I want to see our bench get more confidence and get more in rhythm.
00:33 It was pretty obvious that Larranega was more comfortable keeping our starters in the second
00:39 half. Keyshawn made a big three towards the end of the game. But our bench, Nwoko, Keyshawn,
00:46 AJ, Casey, Chris Watson, I think those were the four guys that got in. They didn't really
00:51 develop a ton of rhythm. I think Watson made one three. Again, Nwoko is backing up Norchad
00:58 and he's a true freshman. So that's just going to take time. I just want to see them develop
01:01 a little bit more confidence on the offensive game and even defensively. I think I'm looking
01:07 to see AJ, Casey, AJ, Casey get some more minutes because I think he's going to be valuable
01:12 for us. He's got a really good offensive game if you watch his high school tape. So I would
01:17 love to see him get in rhythm. This is a game we should win and we should see a lot of players
01:21 get a lot of minutes. And the second thing I want to see is the stupid first half fouls.
01:26 Wuga and Norchad both missed significant time in the first half because of fouls. Wuga's
01:31 two fouls came within 10 seconds of each other and the second one was a frustration foul.
01:35 So it's just like Norchad's first foul was a moving screen. You know it's going to be
01:44 there because again, Norchad's backup is Nwoko, who's a true freshman. There's such a drop
01:47 off right now and hopefully that changes through the season as Nwoko gets more comfortable
01:52 with the college game and the speed of the game. But you need Norchad out there as much
01:56 as possible. Wuga's pretty much proven that he can shoot from anywhere and make it. You
02:01 want him out there as much as possible because it spreads the floor. Wuga was five for five
02:06 from three. His shots never even touched the rim. They were all nothing but net. He had
02:11 some good drives too. You want him on the floor, it's facing, you're forced to guard
02:16 him. Nigel hasn't had a great game as far as shooting's concerned, but it's because
02:20 they're running him off the three-point line. Everybody and their mom knows he can make
02:23 it from anywhere in the gym. He had that layup with five seconds left on the shot clock where
02:29 he went coast to coast. That was huge. He's doing other things that aren't showing up
02:33 in the sashy because he draws the defense out. You have to cover him at half court because
02:37 he'll make it from there. Who else? Cleveland, all over the floor. I don't remember how many,
02:45 I think all five starters were in double digits, but every time a shot goes up, he's near the
02:49 rim. This dude is so athletic. I underestimated the amount of like just what he was going
02:56 to bring to this team. And he's still working on gelling with the team he transferred in.
03:02 So when we hit ACC play, I think Cleveland's going to take it and even another step. So
03:08 I kind of want to go to that game at Tallahassee to end the season. I really do. He's going
03:14 to get a lot of hate. I just want to show my boy some love. So I'm tempted. But no,
03:20 and Bensley almost had a five by five game. Like insane. He was one block away from having
03:26 over five points, five rebounds, five steals, five assists. He only had four blocks. Like
03:32 I don't know that I've ever seen that. And honestly, some of those blocks.
03:36 It's hard. They don't give any blocks.
03:39 But people got to remember, he's probably our best defender. So he's playing he's playing
03:44 defense on the point guard. So he's picking up that he's picking them up at half court
03:48 if not further. He runs hard. He's playing defense from coast to coast. So the fact that
03:54 he's able to do that, and I think he went two for three from three, he's definitely
03:58 been working on his shot because that's what that was my gripe with him last year is that
04:02 he wasn't a consistent jump shooter. But he plays a unique defense. His stat line for
04:06 that game was crazy. Like to be one block away from having a five by five game. I don't
04:13 know that I've ever seen that happen. Just I hope he can keep that up because that takes
04:18 a lot of energy and that's really going to be tiresome to the body throughout the season.
04:23 But wow, I'm I'm so impressed by what he did our starting lineup, man. I was a little doubtful
04:29 because we're very small. But um, but you know, we play well there. They did UCF did
04:35 try to take advantage of that they were trying to back down some of our guards and got some
04:38 got some easy buckets at the rim. But that's what you're going to have to give up and to
04:43 play the way we play and we made you live and die by the three we certainly lived by
04:47 it last game. So I want North had to take that top of the top of the key three. He turned
04:52 it down. Yeah, I was gonna ask you why all this? He missed he missed it twice in the
04:58 first half. So I think he was just doubting himself. But he needs to take that shot. He
05:04 can make it and UCF was even guarding him up at the top of the key because he's worked
05:09 on that shot. He needs to take that shot. He passed it up. I don't know why I don't
05:13 know if it was a mental thing because he missed it. But I want him taking that shot. He needs
05:16 to take it. And I have full confidence in him making that shot. I think coach all those
05:20 two.
05:21 Thank you.
