An approaching storm colliding with chilly air will spark an icy mix over part of the Northeast into Thursday, resulting in travel disruptions and, for some, the first wintry weather of the season.

00:00 Most of your day in most of the
00:02 Northeast is actually going to be nice.
00:04 I know it's hard to believe considering
00:06 what's on satellite and radar here,
00:08 but we will see breaks in the clouds
00:10 and early morning of some snow showers
00:12 in the Green and White Mountains,
00:14 and even in southern and far northern
00:16 Maine will lead way to a cold,
00:18 but in some parts sunny day in New
00:20 England and especially across the
00:22 Mid Atlantic, take a look at your
00:23 AccuWeather exclusive forecast here.
00:25 We're in the 40s in New England.
00:27 I'll give you that.
00:28 It's a tad chilly,
00:29 especially compared to yesterday
00:30 in Boston and Portland,
00:31 New York 52 chilly as well as we
00:34 are looking at that northerly flow
00:36 of air driving temperatures down.
00:38 And bringing the cold.
00:39 Now here's the thing.
00:40 This cold it's not hugely
00:42 detrimental to your day today.
00:43 I'd say layer up a tad,
00:45 but you can keep the sunglasses around,
00:47 but the cold will contribute
00:49 to our next storm.
00:50 You saw it on satellite and radar.
00:52 I'm going to show you the snapshot here.
00:54 The storm is moving through the Midwest
00:57 currently and out toward the Northeast
00:58 this afternoon and really overnight
01:00 tonight and into tomorrow.
01:01 But here's the thing about this storm.
01:04 The last one we saw of a similar nature.
01:06 Quick mover quick hitter was really
01:08 heading out toward Southern Canada.
01:10 This storm is taking a track
01:12 a little bit further South.
01:14 Why do we care about that?
01:15 Well, first of all,
01:17 it's going to bring that cold on the
01:19 backside and since the storm is further
01:22 South the cold on the backside of the
01:24 storm can get further South as well.
01:27 You combine that with the cold
01:29 that we already have today,
01:30 and all of a sudden we're looking
01:32 at a dose of winter rather than
01:34 more so rain like we saw with our
01:37 last storm. So let's go through
01:38 it here on future radar.
01:40 You can see the snow showers already
01:42 starting into Southern Canada,
01:43 really looking across Lake Ontario there,
01:45 and we're reaching some moisture
01:46 back out across Southern New York
01:48 and into the Keystone State as we
01:50 look through late this afternoon.
01:51 456 o'clock by later this evening.
01:53 I hope you're not driving on 87.
01:55 It's going to be an absolute
01:56 storm, but it's more of the same.
01:58 The Adirondacks.
01:59 I really think we're going to have
02:00 some issues in terms of slick road
02:02 conditions more of the same into the
02:04 mountains of northern New England and
02:05 even parts of central New England.
02:07 We're going to go through this in just a second.
02:09 I think you have some slick roads as well.
02:12 Let's continue to time things out here
02:13 by 10:30 tomorrow morning.
02:14 The storm is on its way out,
02:16 but it's not totally done yet.
02:17 Again, this is a quick hitter.
02:19 It's not like it's going to last for days
02:21 and days, but it is going to bring some
02:23 uncomfortable conditions in the meantime.
02:24 More of that wintery mix and even
02:26 more of the slick roads of New England.
02:28 Really, until later on Thursday.
02:30 Now this is my biggest concern.
02:31 Snow showers not going to put down
02:33 anything massive in terms of accumulations.
02:34 Couple inches in northern Maine and
02:36 really in the northern Green and White
02:38 Mountains in the northern Adirondacks
02:39 as well. Certainly possible,
02:40 but my biggest concern for you is ice.
02:42 I call ice the great equalizer.
02:44 I think it does not matter where
02:46 you're from or how good you think
02:47 you are at driving in winter weather.
02:49 Look, I'm from Massachusetts.
02:51 I drove in winter weather my whole life.
02:53 Does not matter when there's ice on the road.
02:55 It's just dangerous,
02:56 so please be careful overnight tonight
02:58 into tomorrow as sleet and freezing
03:00 rain could cause icy spots on the roadways.
03:02 Even looking across your major
03:03 interstates, bridges and overpasses
03:05 could be a concern.
03:06 You don't have the road in or the ground.
03:08 I should say to insulate the
03:10 roads in those places now,
03:11 even into the foothills,
03:12 the Worcester Hills,
03:13 I'd say of Massachusetts and back
03:15 out toward Western Mass cities like
03:17 North Adams and Chickapee out toward
03:18 the Berkshires, I think you have a
03:20 similar problem here.
03:21 Your Accuweather winter cast
03:22 for Manchester, NH.
03:23 This might not look like a lot,
03:25 but don't be fooled.
03:27 A trace to 500th of an inch.
03:29 It's not a blockbuster number.
03:30 This is between, by the way,
03:32 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM on Thursday morning,
03:34 but that's enough ice to cause
03:36 some problems on the roads.
03:37 Manchester,
03:38 you're also getting a couple of inches of snow.
03:40 Accuweather winter cast is great
03:42 for literally all winter weather.
03:43 You can only find it here on
03:45 Accuweather.com and the Accuweather app.
03:47 Highly suggest you give it a use.
03:49 You can see here a coding to an inch
03:52 of snow in Manchester between 4:00
03:54 AM and 7:00 AM on Thursday.
03:55 Stay warm and stay safe.
