Transcript
00:00 I'm here at the Signal Aduna Park, home of Bruce O'Daltman, ahead of Newcastle United's Champions League match here.
00:07 Just been speaking to Eddie Howe and Fabian Scheer in their pre-match press conference ahead of the game.
00:13 Eddie Howe, obviously the injuries are mounting for Newcastle and that was basically the main talking point.
00:19 Newcastle have just 16 senior players fitting available to play tomorrow night.
00:24 Considering 11 starting players, you can name a bench of 12, Eddie Howe said he's going to have to name some young players on the bench.
00:31 He confirmed probably our worst fears in terms of Dan Byrne falling on his back, looking at a couple of months out for him.
00:39 And Matt Target, hamstring injury, again he said a few months out for him as well.
00:44 So, it's two left backs, both facing months on the sidelines and pushing to be involved, sort of early 2024 really.
00:53 So, this hectic period just gets no easier for Newcastle.
00:59 A couple of selection dilemmas, does Eddie Howe go with Kieran Trippiatt left back, Tino Liveromento right back, as they did in the second half against Arsenal on Saturday?
01:09 Or does he give young Lewis Hall a chance to start his first game for Newcastle in the Champions League?
01:16 We'll wait and see tomorrow night. Eddie Howe didn't give anything in terms of team selection away.
01:21 A couple of big injury blows for his side, we'll probably see the likes of Lewis Miley on the bench with Lucas de Ball and Ben Parkinson also travelling with the squad.
01:31 So, stuff to look out for on the bench tomorrow night ahead of a really big game here, crucial game really.
01:38 Fourth game, Newcastle on four points, level on points with Dortmund with better goal difference but Dortmund ahead of them because they won the game at St James' Park.
01:47 So, yeah, all to play for and speaking briefly to Fabian Schär as well, he's just loving life at Newcastle at the moment.
01:55 He's playing the best football of his career, he admits that and amid his contract situation as well, his current deal expires at the end of the season,
02:02 he just says he'd love to finish his career at Newcastle. So, all positive in regards to Fabian Schär.
02:07 Just a couple of injury blows for Eddie Howe but Schär will most likely start tomorrow night ahead of a big game here.
02:14 Bruce O'Doatman v Newcastle United at the Signal Iduna Park. Follow it all on the Shields Gazette.
