Transcript
00:00 Newcastle United 2 Fiorentina 0 here at St James' Park in the Sella Cup this afternoon.
00:06 Newcastle women currently playing at the moment.
00:09 But another productive pre-season run out for Eddie Howe's side.
00:12 A comfortable game to be honest against severe opposition.
00:16 I think Newcastle didn't really have to reach top gear to beat Fiorentina very comfortably in the end.
00:23 Only 2-0 but goals in either half from Miguel Almiron and Alexander Isak could have been more.
00:29 Anthony Gordon and Elliot Anderson both having chances.
00:32 Both playing well and looking to thread but that final shot, that killer instinct if you like, just lacking at times.
00:38 Miguel Almiron also went clean for on goal, had a chance to double that advantage.
00:43 Chance for the Newcastle women there.
00:47 But Miguel Almiron had a chance to double Newcastle's advantage in the second half after giving them the lead.
00:53 With a good finish in the first half after good work from Alexander Isak, hit it straight to the keeper.
00:59 Anthony Gordon failed to hit the target on a couple of occasions despite some really good runs and getting into some good positions.
01:06 But Martin Dabrowski in the Newcastle goal had I think one save to make.
01:10 So Fiorentina not really posing an awful lot of threat this afternoon.
01:15 But Newcastle one game in, Sella Cup, top of the group, five points, three points for the win, two points for the two goals scored.
01:24 And earlier in the day there was a Nice 1, Villarreal 1.
01:28 So Newcastle play Villarreal tomorrow.
01:32 In terms of team news for that game, it will be completely rotated from today's game.
01:37 So we'll see Bruno, Joe Linton, potentially Harvey Barnes as well.
01:41 One player we won't see though, Fabian Scheer, Eddie Howe said after the game that he is still injured with that hamstring issue.
01:50 And Tino Livermanto here at St James' Park today, Eddie Howe was asked about him but gave absolutely nothing away about the player.
02:01 So that's a deal we'll expect to be done certainly in the coming days but Eddie Howe not giving anything away.
02:07 So yeah, productive run out for Newcastle, first clean sheet of pre-season and on to Villarreal tomorrow.
