00:00 Is it time to make a quarterback switch from Tyler Van Dyke?
00:03 Now, let me just make my prediction on this, okay?
00:08 You guys aren't gonna like this.
00:09 This is not my opinion, this is my prediction.
00:12 I am not expecting Miami to bench Tyler Van Dyke this week.
00:16 I'm not expecting that.
00:17 I am expecting them to give TVD an opportunity.
00:20 Perhaps the leash will be shorter against Florida State, but
00:23 he's gonna get an opportunity.
00:25 Personally though, guys, it's hard for me to keep watching what I've been watching
00:31 for these past several Saturdays, excluding the Clemson game when obviously he was
00:37 injured and didn't play, but it's hard for me to keep watching what I'm watching and
00:41 say, yes, this should be your QB one every single week.
00:44 Like I can no longer justify it, all right?
00:47 Because in theory, the advantages of playing a veteran over a freshman or
00:53 a sophomore quarterback, because Ja'Kari Brown is also there, right?
00:57 But the advantages of playing a veteran,
00:59 guy who's been in the program for four years, is that the veteran in theory
01:05 should be cutting down on mistakes and should be making smarter decisions.
01:09 In theory, but right now, your veteran isn't doing any of those things.
01:15 He's not cutting down on mistakes, not making smart decisions.
01:19 Wasn't good against Virginia, but
01:21 you still gave him the opportunity to try and snap out of that against NC State.
01:26 And things got worse, not better.
01:29 Now, I get it.
01:31 Van Dyke has clearly been playing through pain.
01:34 He is tough as nails, and I respect the hell out of him for that.
01:37 I really do.
01:38 This is a great kid, okay?
01:39 I respect him.
01:40 But again, if your veteran starter is making freshman mistakes on the field,
01:45 maybe it's time to give an opportunity to another quarterback.
01:48 Maybe it's time to give an opportunity to the freshman,
01:50 because maybe he's gonna at least manage games.
01:53 If your veteran is averaging two and a half interceptions over four games,
01:57 if that's not benchable, I don't know what is.
02:01 Now, okay, on Monday tomorrow, I'm gonna be at the coaches press conferences.
02:06 I'm very curious to see if Cristobal, if he completely shuts down any talk
02:11 about switching quarterbacks, and that might even happen before the press
02:16 conference, cuz Cristobal does a weekly Monday interview with Joe Rose on WQAM.
02:20 So he might address it there.
02:22 But I'm curious to hear if coach makes it 100% clear that Van Dyke
02:27 is starting again this week, or
02:30 if he leaves the answer to that question kind of open to interpretation.
02:35 It's also a tough spot, guys, cuz you got Florida State coming up.
02:39 I mean, listen, the timing when it comes to the difficulty of making a decision
02:43 like this, there's no worse timing to have to make that choice than right now, okay?
02:50 Florida State is the toughest opponent on your schedule.
02:53 You're going into the Lions den, you have to play them at their building,
02:56 cuz you played Clemson earlier with Emory Williams.
02:58 Clemson's got a good defense, but they're not Florida State, and
03:03 you got to play them at home, not on the road.
03:05 If you start Van Dyke, he might struggle again.
03:08 But if you start Emory Williams,
03:10 what if he has a deer in the headlights type of freshman game?
03:13 I wouldn't blame him if he did, right?
03:15 And again, so the coaches are gonna be debating this.
03:18 I mean, maybe they already have their answer, I don't know.
03:21 But the internal debate has to be,
03:24 which quarterback gives us the best chance to win this Saturday?
03:28 Are they gonna look at the situation and say, you know what?
03:31 For as much as Van Dyke has struggled, he's played in Tallahassee before.
03:36 He's obviously the guy who's been in college for four years.
03:40 He's the one who's taken the lion's share of first team reps in practice, and
03:44 he's got all these starts under his belt.
03:46 There's definitely gonna be a temptation to kinda stick with the status quo and
03:51 just hope he can find a magical bounce back game.
03:54 But my goodness, you can't keep making the mistakes you're making and
03:59 expect to win a football game.
04:01 Can Emory Williams at least take care of the football if he starts this week?
04:06 Can he do that?
04:06 So this is on the coaches.
04:07 Again, I would strongly consider making the switch.
04:11 I am not expecting Miami to make the switch, but I am strong.
04:15 I mean, obviously, I don't have any vote on the matter, okay?
04:18 But I have to wonder what's gonna happen, but my official prediction is
04:23 Tyler Van Dyke is gonna get the call again this week.
04:25 And it's unfortunate because things have not been running smoothly for
04:30 him since October started.
04:32 Now we're into November, different month, same results on the field.
