00:00 Hi, I'm Mark Dunford and I'm here with today's Sussex World Daily Bulletin on Monday, October
00:06 30th, 2023.
00:09 Southern England and Wales are poised for heavy rain and flooding over the next few
00:11 days ahead of the arrival of Storm Ciaran later this week.
00:16 Storm Ciaran is set to bring strong winds and heavy rain to southern parts of the UK
00:19 when it arrives on Wednesday night and Thursday, according to the Met Office.
00:23 It comes after a number of areas in the UK faced extreme weather over the weekend including
00:28 Hastings, Bognor Regis and Littlehampton.
00:32 Littlehampton residents have spoken out after many woke up on Sunday morning to find their
00:35 gardens devastated by this weekend's extreme weather.
00:39 Returning home yesterday evening after the cancellation of the town's annual bonfire
00:44 night, Littlehampton resident Sam Rowley found his garden had been devastated by the strong
00:49 winds and heavy rains.
00:51 Alongside damaged furniture and knocked over bins which he had expended, the garden boundary
00:55 wall was almost completely destroyed by the weather and he says many of his neighbours
00:59 have suffered similarly.
01:02 Hastings Council leader Paul Barnett has made a statement that there was no further flooding
01:06 in the town centre overnight on Saturday Sunday despite fears and with an Amber Weather Warning
01:13 in place.
01:14 Priory Meadow Shopping Centre was closed off along with other areas of the town centre
01:18 and homes evacuated after flooding hit again.
01:21 The fire service were pumping water as it gushed from drains in South Terrace and the
01:27 shopping centre itself.
01:28 The delivery area of Priory Meadow looked to be underwater.
01:32 Some shops in Priory Meadow such as HMV have only been open for a few months after undergoing
01:36 major refits following flooding in January.
01:40 Photos sent to Sussex World show emergency services on the scene after the wind tore
01:45 the roof off the top of one of the property in Wick near Littlehampton.
01:49 The images come as the Tornado and Storm Research Organisation, TORO, confirms what many residents
01:55 already knew that a small tornado ripped through the town on Saturday.
02:00 The page suggests the tornado took place from approximately 6.50pm to 7.05pm and that there
02:05 had been several complaints of wind damage throughout the town.
