Transcript
00:00 Hi, I'm Mark Dunvan and I'm here with today's Sussex World Daily Bulletin on Thursday November 2nd 2023.
00:08 Sussex has been hit by storm Kieran this morning.
00:11 Schools across East Sussex and West Sussex have been affected with closures and late starts,
00:15 while Worthing Pier has been closed and shopkeepers have been seen clearing drains and flooding in Worthing.
00:22 You can keep up to date with all the latest news including what's happening with flights at Gatwick,
00:28 all the road closures in West Sussex, where trees have fallen in Eastbourne,
00:33 with our live blog and all our stories and pictures and videos on sussexworld.co.uk.
00:40 In other news, ahead of a national rollout across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland,
00:44 five stand-alone Concept Wilko stores will open before Christmas this year.
00:50 The first locations will be in Plymouth and Exeter, closely followed by two locations in the south-east
00:54 and one in the north, which will be announced soon.
00:57 Following the original company's collapse, Wilko stores in Crawley, Eastbourne,
01:00 Bogner Regis closed on September 17th.
01:04 The Worthing and Burgess Hill branch is shut on October 5th and the Horsham site closed its doors in October.
01:11 A St Leonard's hairdresser's shop is closing its doors after trading for 78 years.
01:16 Shaw's in Norman Road opened in 1945 and has been run by Michael Shaw and his family
01:21 for the last 64 years.
01:23 Michael said that it was very emotional for him to retire after almost 65 years.
01:28 Rodney Green, 88, who was the first customer in 1945 to visit Shaw's when he was 10 years old,
01:35 came to wish Michael and his family all the best.
01:39 And a Sussex Village Chippy has been rated among the top fish and chip shops in the UK.
01:44 The Master Fryer in Billingshurst has gained its place for the second year running
01:48 in the National Federation of Fish Fryers' prestigious Quality Accreditation Scheme.
01:53 The Federation, the trade body that represents the nation's fish and chip shops,
01:56 runs the scheme as a way of raising standards within the industry.
02:01 You can read more about these stories and, like I said, a live blog of all that
02:06 affects Stormcare and has on Sussex at sussexworld.co.uk
