The Miami Herald has reported that Tyler Van Dyke and Emory Williams have been splitting first team reps in practice this week. Will Van Dyke return or will Williams start again this week?

00:00 So yes, on Monday, Mario Cristobal did say Tyler Van Dyke should be good to go.
00:05 Keep in mind, he also did say that the previous Monday and
00:08 then it ended up being Emory Williams starting and winning against Clemson last week.
00:13 I believe it's gonna be a similar situation tomorrow,
00:18 where Van Dyke is gonna go through warm ups and that's where he and
00:22 the staff are gonna decide if he's good enough to play and if he's not,
00:25 Emory will get the call.
00:26 Now based on what Van Dyke is going through, he should be in better shape this
00:31 week than he was last week.
00:33 I guess the question would be, how much healthier is he and
00:36 is he actually healthy enough to go out there and not risk any sort of
00:39 re-aggravation of the injuries that he's dealing with?
00:42 Cuz I think that's the most important point here.
00:45 Here's the latest on Miami's QB1 situation from Susan Miller-Degnan
00:50 of the Miami Herald.
00:53 Van Dyke wearing a brace on his right knee and
00:56 2023 backup Emory Williams each took reps with the first team this week,
01:01 a source said.
01:03 Williams is a true freshman who led Miami to a double overtime victory against
01:06 Clemson in his first collegiate start this past Saturday.
01:09 The Canes are leaning heavily, she writes, towards starting Van Dyke on Saturday,
01:14 but he is not 100%, so the decision might not be known until game time.
01:19 Cristobal said on Monday that UM's regular starter was good to go
01:22 during the coach's only news conference leading to Saturday.
01:25 He said that Van Dyke doesn't have anything that's that serious, but
01:30 if it takes a certain turn, you could delay it.
01:33 And that's what ended up happening against Clemson last week.
01:36 So we already knew that Van Dyke for the entire season has been dealing with
01:40 a finger issue, ligament damage in his throwing hand.
01:44 He's got a rib issue and apparently, I wasn't sure if it was knee or thigh, but
01:49 I think it's like a deep bruise or a bone bruise that he's dealing with.
01:53 Again, none of this has been officially said because Miami keeps injuries very
01:57 close to the vest.
01:58 This is just what I've been able to gather this week.
02:01 So obviously, Van Dyke is gonna add more of an aerial threat for
02:06 Miami and he's got the experience factor.
02:09 So I do believe Tyler Van Dyke, a healthy or close to healthy Tyler Van Dyke,
02:14 does give you a better chance to win every game you play.
02:18 Thankfully, Emory Williams showed us last week that he can play well enough to beat
02:23 a really good team cuz I know what Virginia just did.
02:26 Virginia just beat a team that Miami couldn't beat last week.
02:30 They went to Chapel Hill at upset North Carolina.
02:33 But obviously, the team that Emory Williams just won against last week,
02:37 Clemson, is they're a much better team than Virginia.
02:40 So Emory Williams should be able to also beat Virginia if necessary.
02:44 And most importantly, cuz listen, I know contrary to what the media will tell you
02:49 and the narratives will tell you, football is about more than just quarterbacks, right?
02:55 Cuz that was a complete team win by the Hurricanes.
02:58 I mean, if football was just about quarterbacks,
03:01 Caleb Williams at USC would not be losing any games.
03:04 But he keeps on losing games because his defense can't stop a nosebleed.
03:08 So that was a great team win for Miami.
03:10 And we know that Emory is capable of making plays to win football games.
03:15 And the rest of that team, that defense, that offensive line,
03:18 that running game is capable of rallying behind a backup quarterback.
03:22 So we will see what happens.
03:23 But yeah, listen, I agree with what a lot of our listeners and
03:27 viewers have been telling me for the past few days.
03:30 Don't force the issue with Van Dyke cuz that happened last year.
03:36 And I think we understand why because when Van Dyke couldn't play last year,
03:40 Miami couldn't beat anybody outside of a really bad Georgia Tech team last year.
