00:00 Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called for better control of Palestine's solidarity
00:05 programs in schools amid reports of students and teachers carrying toy guns at the events.
00:11 The prime minister said the government encourages the show of support for Palestinians under
00:15 siege in Gaza.
00:17 However, he said there was no compulsion for schools to run such programs.
00:21 A 55-second video clip of one such program showed a man wearing a bulletproof vest and
00:27 a balaclava mask and pointing a toy rifle at students while leading a procession of
00:31 teachers into an assembly.
00:33 Social media screenshots also showed children wearing green bandanas with the words "Save
00:38 Palestine" across their foreheads while carrying toy guns.
00:42 In response, the Malacca Action Group for Parents in Education urged the Education Ministry
00:46 to warn against allowing students to bring toy guns into schools.
00:50 Its chairman, Makchi Kin, said schoolchildren should not be involved in issues such as the
00:55 Israel-Palestinian conflict, which are best left to the nation's leaders.
00:59 "Our children should be instilled with positive values," he said.
