Alex Donno answers questions from Locked On Canes listeners. Can Miami's victory over Clemson become a program-changing win?
Transcript
00:00 I had a question from datdude239 who says,
00:03 Dono, do you believe that win over Clemson
00:06 can be a program changer?
00:08 I know this is not the dominant Clemson from the past years,
00:11 but it's still Clemson, a team who has kicked our ass
00:13 the last couple of meetings,
00:15 and also a team that's really talented.
00:17 I think it's a huge moral boost for the team.
00:20 I'm gonna try to be level-headed on this one, datdude,
00:22 because the same way, you know,
00:24 when Miami lost to Georgia Tech,
00:27 a lot of Hurricanes fans were like, that's it.
00:30 There's no coming back from this.
00:31 We're not gonna win another game all year.
00:34 Cristobal lost the team.
00:36 This whole thing is spiraling out of control.
00:38 Did I overreact to that?
00:39 No, I didn't.
00:40 I still saw the big picture,
00:42 and I still thought Miami could bounce back,
00:44 and, you know, two weeks later,
00:45 they get a big win against Clemson.
00:46 So if I'm gonna avoid getting two down
00:49 based on a loss or two,
00:52 I'm also not gonna get too high based on a win.
00:55 That was a really, really good win for Miami.
00:58 Is it gonna be a program changer?
01:01 I think that's yet to be seen, right?
01:03 Here's the thing.
01:04 The program changer would be
01:07 the Hurricanes finishing this season
01:09 nine and three or 10 and two.
01:11 Florida State is gonna be tough to beat, of course,
01:13 but if Miami can finish this season strong,
01:17 win a bowl game, show some momentum heading into next year,
01:21 that'll be the program changer.
01:22 I don't know.
01:23 I mean, listen, this was the seventh game of the year.
01:25 There's still a lot more football left to play.
01:27 So I will say that win showed signs
01:32 that the program is changing
01:34 because I can't remember the last time
01:37 I saw dominance at the line of scrimmage like that
01:40 on both sides of the football against a really good fit.
01:42 Miami also did a good job physically against Texas A&M,
01:45 but against Clemson, and again,
01:48 Clemson's got four and five stars
01:50 on the defensive and offensive line,
01:52 and Miami just completely out-muscled them.
01:55 So that was a really, really good sign.
01:58 On the flip side of that comment,
02:00 we get this comment from Josh who says,
02:03 I'm so aggravated about celebrating games
02:06 that we should win.
02:08 I'm sick of overhype.
02:09 Anytime we beat a BS team
02:11 and people pretend it's a great win, we suck.
02:14 He says, again, this is embarrassing.
02:17 Let's talk about it.
02:17 Let me know what you think we're good at
02:20 and I'll destroy your idea and give you facts.
02:23 Josh, if you need a good meditation app,
02:29 I can recommend a few for you, okay?
02:31 This guy's mad that we were happy about beating Clemson.
02:35 Dude, get a grip.
02:38 We get a couple of questions from Hercule who says,
02:42 any chance of re-flipping Armando Blunt
02:45 or has that ship sailed?
02:46 Hard to believe that Ruben Bain wouldn't be in his ear
02:49 after the success that he's having.
02:50 Yeah, I think based on the way that this played out,
02:54 I don't think Blunt is flipping back to Miami.
02:57 I'm just being real here.
02:58 I think the ship has sailed there.
02:59 I think probably if you're talking about flips,
03:01 probably the best chance Miami would have
03:03 to flip a top defensive lineman would be Dylan Stewart.
03:07 Remember him?
03:08 He committed to South Carolina
03:10 and South Carolina's garbage.
03:13 Like that team is two and five, they're terrible.
03:15 So maybe that's somebody who gives another look
03:17 to other schools.
03:19 Hercule also asks, or he says,
03:22 people aren't giving Leonard Taylor enough credit
03:24 for the Clemson game.
03:25 He had just as much impact as Bain, if not more,
03:28 but just not on the stat sheet.
03:30 Yeah, did he have more?
03:31 I don't know if he had more impact than Bain,
03:33 just as much, I don't know.
03:35 But Leonard Taylor, he was awesome in that game.
03:37 We did give him credit on this show
03:39 and we spoke to him yesterday.
03:41 He had media availability, huge smile on his face.
03:44 And yeah, he had a lot of fun playing at the nose
03:47 and hopefully we see more of that.
