00:02 Looking at R. Kumareshwaran,
00:05 it's hard to imagine he ever had a confidence problem.
00:08 But confidence was in short supply
00:10 for a young Kumareshwaran.
00:12 At 15, he weighed 110 kilograms
00:15 as the result of eating up to 6,000 calories
00:18 of junk every day.
00:19 That's equivalent to eating 20 roti canais.
00:22 - Old school used to call me a fat kid
00:24 and I was known as a fat kid
00:27 and I was very fat to the point where I had man boobs.
00:32 I was still so embarrassed that sometimes
00:35 I cannot wear a white T-shirt.
00:37 I used to put a masking tape around
00:39 and cover it up because I was feeling very insecure.
00:43 - One day, Kumareshwaran decided that enough was enough.
00:48 - At one point when I felt like this is it,
00:51 I just stopped everything overnight.
00:53 I stopped everything and I just started
00:56 doing what was necessary because I liked food,
01:00 but more than that, I liked the physique.
01:02 So I had to weigh which one I wanted.
01:05 - He began a strict and grueling fitness regime,
01:08 losing weight and gaining confidence in the process.
01:11 There was no going back.
01:13 The accounting student continued sculpting his physique
01:16 and even scored junior titles
01:18 in several bodybuilding competitions.
01:20 - I spent two years in this industry,
01:22 the fitness industry, and if it doesn't work out,
01:25 then maybe I'll go back to what I'm supposed to do
01:29 as an accountant.
01:31 So then I just tried and I started winning shows
01:34 and then from there one did to the other
01:36 and then I ended up opening a gym
01:37 and now I'm full-time bodybuilder.
01:39 - Today, the 38-year-old bodybuilder consumes
01:42 between 2,800 and 4,000 calories a day
01:46 from the six meals he prepares himself
01:48 during the bulking and cutting phases.
01:50 His diet consists of brown rice, oats, vegetables,
01:54 chicken, eggs, fish, and beef.
01:57 But the true source of Kumar Reswaran's strength
02:00 isn't his diet, but his family.
02:03 - They are very supportive because they can,
02:05 those close, they can see their effort
02:07 and the sacrifices made also
02:09 and most of them are very proud of it.
02:12 So I'm very blessed.
02:14 - Kumar Reswaran's hard work has paid off.
02:16 Just last week, he won the Mr. Malaysia 2023 title.
02:20 So what's next for Mr. Malaysia?
02:22 More training, of course.
02:24 Kumar Reswaran will compete in the World Bodybuilding
02:26 and Physique Championships in South Korea next month
02:29 and he has his eye on the prize.
02:31 - Every time I go, I wanna win.
02:33 I wanna win, I mean, that's my goal.
02:36 - Danish Rajareza and Frankie D'Cruz, FMT News.
