Dog has strangest reaction to tennis balls

00:00 I'm just sitting on the couch or something, he'll grab his toys, start dancing and waiting for me to play.
00:05 I'm Shelby and this is Ricky's story for GeoBeats.
00:11 We came across Ricky on Facebook.
00:13 He ended up being the runt of the litter and a little bit of loner.
00:16 He caught our attention and we felt bad for him.
00:18 We knew we had to have him and it was the perfect time since I was working from home full time.
00:23 He loved fetch and it just gradually got more and more intense that he got more and more excited for his toys and the tennis ball.
00:31 And he started doing it longer and longer and dancing longer and longer while he was waiting.
00:35 And doing it more often too.
00:37 It started with just the tennis ball and now he'll do it with all of his toys.
00:40 Whenever he's excited he just starts to dance.
00:42 Everyone that sees it in person that isn't expecting it is so surprised.
00:47 They're just taking their time, getting ready to throw his toy and he's just sitting there bouncing, bouncing, bouncing.
00:51 Whoa! What is that?
00:54 Ricky's special talent.
00:56 People ask how I taught my dog to do this and honestly I did not teach him how to do it.
00:59 I have no idea if it's even a teachable trick.
01:01 I think it's more of just like an adrenaline rush because he's that excited.
01:05 Usually the tennis ball is right in front of him and so he stares down at the tennis ball.
01:09 He wants you to throw it so bad.
01:11 You can like pick it up and hand it to him and he won't take it.
01:13 He wants you to throw it so that he can fetch it.
01:16 You pick it up and then you put it back down and start dancing again.
01:19 So I can kind of control it almost in that sense.
01:21 He can match the beat of sound.
01:24 Sometimes he'll do it slower, sometimes he'll do it faster.
01:26 As he starts to get more excited it gets faster and he can match the rhythm of the music which is really cool.
01:32 I love to dance sometimes and I'll be behind him.
01:35 He's just so focused on himself and his adrenaline that he probably does not even notice that I'm behind him.
01:41 We'll throw it back at you too.
01:45 He has more lighter stuffed toys that if you're just sitting on the couch he'll pick it up with his mouth and throw it at you.
01:51 So that it lands on your lap to try and get you to throw it for him.
01:54 Fetch is really the one thing that gets him excited and really motivated and energetic.
01:59 And the rest of the time he's really a pretty relaxed loving dog.
02:03 There's two different types of Labrador Retrievers.
02:06 He's like an American or field lab which are typically skinnier and smaller.
02:10 And the English version has a blockier head and a little bit stockier.
02:14 Good boy! Good job!
02:16 Sometimes people will come and feed him more and I'm like you don't know how many treats he gets.
02:21 He's so athletic and just loves to run and burn calories and stuff.
02:24 So he stays pretty skinny but he gets plenty of food and plenty of treats.
02:27 He's definitely a light in my life.
02:29 Every day just hanging out with him if I'm stressed out I can just go and play with him.
02:33 Take him on a walk and it instantly brings joy to me.
02:36 I think he's a really special dog.
