The 25th National Curry Week comes second to naan. Started in 1998 to drive awareness and appreciation of the burgeoning Indian restaurant industry. To celebrate this momentous occasion I've been given the extremely difficult task of taste testing curries from Liverpool restaurants.

00:00 In celebration of National Curry Week I have randomly selected three top-rated
00:05 Liverpool restaurants and ordered curry for delivery. Now let's put them to the
00:09 taste test. Everyone has their favourite Indian local takeaway. I have several.
00:17 Today we have ordered from Sultan's Palace and I've got a classic. I've got
00:22 the butter chicken curry. First of all, smells great. Now for the taste test. I
00:31 did order a side of rice but I'm gonna go in straight in. Try the sauce on its
00:38 own first. I love the mild tomatoey creamy dish as you'd expect it to be.
00:48 Pretty decent, tender chicken breast. Of course, curry comes in all shapes and
00:55 sizes and I've chosen to order something now for my lunch from Bundabust for
01:02 their completely meat-free menu. I've gone for a paneer curry which is actually a
01:06 personal favourite of mine. This is the paneer kadai and it is a paneer cheese
01:11 simmered in rich mixed pepper and tomato sauce with onions. Going in with the
01:16 sauce, can I say as well. You can see a lot of fresh coriander on the top of this.
01:20 Smells delicious. You can really taste the peppers in there. It's not incredibly
01:28 spicy at all but it has got some nice flavours. So here in front of me I have
01:34 the slow-cooked beef Thai green curry from Rose's and it does smell really
01:43 delicious and I can already see there's loads of vegetables in there. So it does
01:48 say it comes with aubergine, bamboo shoots and sweet basil. I've just got a spoon. I did
01:55 get some jasmine rice on the side but I'm gonna go in just to try the curry
02:00 itself, just the sauce first of all, give that the taste test.
02:05 Oh first up it's really creamy and then it turns into quite a heat. I'm gonna go
02:16 in now for some of that slow-cooked beef. Wow that absolutely melts in your mouth.
02:21 I've taken some time to really digest not only the food but think about the
02:29 scores and although I really enjoyed them all I will have to say my favourite
02:36 might just have to be just by a smidgen the Thai green curry from Rose's. I think
02:42 it really packed a punch not just in terms of heat but also the spices that
02:50 were in there. Saying that honestly I really did enjoy them all and although
02:55 National Curry Week is as good as reason as any who really needs an excuse to
03:00 enjoy one of the nation's favourite dishes.
