HOT ROD Power Tour is the worlds largest road trip
Transcript
00:00 Hey, I'm David Freiburger from Hot Rod Magazine and I'm here on day one of the 20th anniversary
00:09 of Power Tour.
00:10 And this week I get to also introduce you to the brand new editor-in-chief of Hot Rod.
00:14 Actually, you're not even new, you just seem new.
00:16 No, I've been here six months, but this is my first day at first Power Tour.
00:20 Your first Power Tour.
00:21 This is David Kennedy and he's been with the company a long time, been a big fan of Hot
00:24 Rod for a long time, but literally your very first Power Tour.
00:28 Well, with more than 20 of these running, obviously I've read about it for years, I
00:32 wanted to come and participate, bring someone to drive, meet all these people, but this
00:36 is my first time getting to talk with the people that come to the Power Tour.
00:39 Yeah, this thing is going to be pretty mind-blowing.
00:42 I hear from the events people that are running the show, this is the single largest opening
00:46 day we've ever had at Power Tour, which means it's going to be big.
00:51 The event started in 1995 and it's essentially gotten bigger every single year, a little
00:55 bit of a dip in the recession and it's been coming back up steadily, and this 20th, from
01:00 here in Concord, North Carolina, all the way to Wisconsin Dells over the next seven days,
01:05 is going to be the biggest one ever.
01:07 The thing that is going to happen on Power Tour that you'll see in video all the rest
01:10 of the week is a ton of Hot Rods on the road.
01:14 We have what we call a long haul, which is people who drive all the way with us from
01:17 city to city and stop at the parties each night.
01:20 They'll be between 1,200 and 1,800 cars on the long haul, probably for this 20th anniversary
01:25 I'm guessing it's going to be the high end of that, and then every single night we'll
01:29 have another 1,000 to 3,000 cars that stop with us just to hang out and see what's going
01:34 on.
01:35 Part of the mother's driving experience, we have drag racing like we did here in Concord,
01:39 North Carolina.
01:40 We're going to do that again in Norwalk, Ohio.
01:42 We have a couple of nights worth of autocross racing and Luca sponsors an on-site chassis
01:47 dyno every day.
01:48 It's so easy to shoot here at the venue and look at the massive amount of cars right here,
01:52 but we're going to bring you the action from the road as well, because the thing that's
01:55 cool about Power Tour is seeing all these Hot Rods not parked in a fairground, but actually
02:00 rolling down the highway.
02:01 And you get to hear their stories, and for the first time, or one of the few times we
02:05 get to not only talk to them, but hear their stories come back to us.
02:08 Then we'll go home and get to write about those things, share their stories, share their
02:12 photos online at HotRod.com.
02:14 Then we'll have our Facebook page, Hot Rod Magazine, our Instagram account, Hot Rod Magazine
02:18 as well.
02:19 We'll hashtag Power Tour 2014, we'll be on Twitter, HRPT14, you can follow us there.
02:25 And it's going to be an army of content, and plus all these people will be posting to those
02:29 accounts as well, and hashtagging us, and bringing you along on the adventure if you're
02:32 not here this week.
02:33 Yeah, if you're somebody who's here on Power Tour with us, go on social media, and as we
02:37 said, hashtag the stuff.
02:39 Instagram is also Power Tour 2014, or you can do HRPT14 if that's easier for you.
02:45 We'll find your stuff, we'll share it, we might use it on Hot Rod.com.
02:49 And with social media, it's amazing how this thing can get even bigger, and the whole thing
02:53 is going to come to life right for you in front of your computer.
02:55 So come to Hot Rod.com all week long, because we're going to have huge coverage of the 20th
03:00 anniversary of Power Tour, which is presented by Chevrolet Performance, and driven by Continental
03:05 Tire.
