00:00 I think it's just, it's like a sense of pride.
00:01 It's something that's definitely not straight
00:03 from the dealerships.
00:03 It's not just bought off a website.
00:05 It's not an eBay purchase product.
00:07 It's something that you built,
00:08 something that you came up with in your mind
00:09 and you made a reality.
00:11 - I'm Jake, the Gunsnake,
00:22 and I'm out here at the 2019 Dallas Hot Wheels Legend Show.
00:25 As you can see, it's a beautiful day,
00:27 but we're out here to like pick a car
00:29 that could potentially be a Hot Wheels car.
00:31 How cool is that?
00:32 There's a lot of great cars here,
00:33 a lot of good stuff to see.
00:35 I'm excited.
00:35 - What's going on guys?
00:49 My name is Néstor.
00:50 This is my 1984 Hakotora.
00:52 A few years ago, I saw one of these on the internet.
00:55 All of the graphics, all the livery.
00:57 It was built in my backyard with my daughter.
00:59 We both love cars,
01:00 and that's basically the only time
01:03 that we have to spend together.
01:05 Well, Hot Wheels really represent families.
01:08 And like I said, my daughter,
01:09 I get to spend time with her.
01:10 So that's what we do.
01:11 Whenever we're not working on these cars,
01:13 we're working on the smaller version.
01:15 - My name is Bill Harris,
01:17 and the name of the car is Stray Cat.
01:18 It's a 1927 Ford Tall T Coupe.
01:22 I got this car about eight years ago, started building it.
01:26 Really, I've done everything for the past eight years myself
01:29 other than the initial frames.
01:30 It is a true steel body.
01:32 It's a patina, true patina.
01:34 I shot it with a satin clear to protect it.
01:37 The motor is a '67 Corvette 327.
01:40 Radiator, fuel tank, all that is in the back.
01:43 The duct will spray smoke the nitrous out the bill.
01:46 So it's kind of a cool feature on it.
01:48 It's not a car that I tell people to don't touch.
01:50 We let kids sit in it all the time.
01:52 So it's that type of a car.
01:53 (upbeat music)
01:56 (cheering)
02:03 - Very funny.
02:04 - Nice.
02:06 - All right, so thank you guys all for coming out to Dallas.
02:08 There was a lot of really cool cars here today.
02:11 What'd you gravitate towards?
02:12 What'd you think of the city, the people, the event?
02:15 - The cool part about this venue
02:16 is you have a lot of variety.
02:17 You have the more low rider, you have the truck,
02:19 you have the off-road, you have the classic car.
02:20 So it's a good hybrid of everything right here.
02:22 People enjoyed the event hugely.
02:24 It was a great vibe.
02:25 A whole lot of styles in the same place.
02:27 I enjoyed it a lot.
02:28 I can speak for myself.
02:29 Yes, yes I did.
02:31 - I really liked the farm truck.
02:32 That was really, really well done.
02:34 A lot of authentic details.
02:35 Really spoke to this space that we're in here in Dallas.
02:38 - Someone's from out of town
02:39 and you wanted to show them a Texas truck,
02:41 there couldn't be a better choice.
02:42 - Well, and like he said, that thing breathes Texas.
02:44 I think he said it, he's like,
02:45 bald eagles come out when the doors open.
02:47 - There's three that kind of boil to the top.
02:49 We have the Chaparral, the tall T,
02:52 and the S2K drift car.
02:54 I think I gravitate towards the S2000
02:57 'cause it's built by a younger guy.
02:59 He races it himself, kind of built it himself.
03:01 So I think that I like that story.
03:04 - I'm going Chaparral.
03:05 - Yeah, same.
03:06 - Yeah, like two engines, that super '90s race look.
03:09 I need the street legal, man.
03:10 That's like, that's it.
03:11 I would do it.
03:12 I would go for it.
03:13 - All right, I guess we bring it in.
03:14 Do a little fun of Hot Wheels.
03:15 One, three.
03:16 (cheering)
03:17 - Oh no, we don't like D3.
03:18 - One, two, three.
03:19 - Hot Wheels!
03:20 (cheering)
03:21 - Before we start, we wanna thank all of our sponsors
03:24 that make this happen.
03:26 Starting with Mobile One, go enter into the sweepstakes.
03:28 You can win a real live Hot Wheels Camaro.
03:31 Also Walmart, our host today, that make all this happen,
03:34 gives us this amazing space.
03:35 So thank you to Walmart.
03:36 Thank you to Jake, the store manager, for all the support.
03:40 Mechanicswear, I don't know if you got a chance
03:42 to go play in the Pit Stop station.
03:44 So thank you to Mechanicswear.
03:45 Of course, thank you to Dickies back here.
03:48 (cheering)
03:49 Hopefully everyone got a chance to get their work shirt,
03:51 get some of the amazing badges that we have here.
03:54 If you haven't done it, you can still go inside
03:56 and get some.
03:57 I wanna turn it over to one of our judges,
03:59 Victor Rawlings, for a really special announcement.
04:02 - My friend Jasper here is four years old,
04:04 and he was born with Down syndrome,
04:06 and he's had a couple heart surgeries.
04:08 One of his biggest dreams was to come
04:11 to the Legends Hot Wheels Tour.
04:12 We were able to bring him out here, let him see it.
04:15 I, for one, got to spend a little time a few minutes ago,
04:17 and his passion for cars is unreal.
04:20 And we're just excited that he came out.
04:22 He came to Dickies booth and got a shirt.
04:24 And I want everybody to give a big round of applause
04:26 for him and his family.
04:27 Yeah!
04:29 There we go.
04:30 - We spent quite a good amount of minutes
04:33 deliberating the uniqueness, the story behind the build.
04:36 And after a quite good amount of deliberation,
04:38 we decided Jeff Kurtz's S2K Drift Car
04:43 is the winner for today.
04:44 Jeff Kurtz, where you at?
04:45 Come pick your prize.
04:47 Congrats, man.
04:48 - So my name's Jeff Kurtz, and this is my Honda S2000,
04:53 also known as the Drift 2K on social media.
04:55 We wanted to keep the Honda platform on it,
04:57 so it's a Honda V6.
04:58 This thing has almost 70 degrees of steering angle.
05:01 It's got a full set of race harnesses
05:02 for the driver and the passenger,
05:04 when we do take passengers.
05:05 All the factory instrument cluster's gone.
05:07 It's been replaced with a stack dash,
05:09 just for us to look at oil pressure, water temp,
05:11 things of that nature.
05:12 We had to figure out how to make the exhaust,
05:14 how to make a fuel system for it.
05:16 So it was just a lot of fabrication stuff
05:18 and figuring out what we're gonna have to do
05:19 to make everything play happily.
05:21 It's that smile that it brings kids when they see it,
05:24 and see the blower out the hood, see the nitrous bottle.
05:27 It's just, you know, I think that's everybody's dream
05:30 that sets out to build a car,
05:31 is to be able to have your car replicated in some form.
05:34 To actually be able to hold a model of your car
05:37 would just be amazing to me.
05:39 (car engine revving)
05:43 (upbeat music)
05:45 (upbeat music)
