00:00Oh, thank God there's not a GoPro pointed at that speedometer, dude.
00:28Okay, uh...
00:39Hi there, I'm Johnny Lieberman, you're watching Motor Trend, and this is Purple Insanity.
00:45You might know it better as the 2025 Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Vysok.
00:51And I really gotta emphasize that Vysok part because, wow, does it change this car.
00:57I was at Laguna Seca when a race driver named Lars Kerr took this thing around and set the production EV lap record.
01:05His mission that day was not just to beat the time set by the Tesla Model S Plaid,
01:10but they wanted him to beat the Porsche 991.2 GT2 RS, which he did.
01:16In fact, he went so quick, he was within two-tenths of a second of a McLaren Senna.
01:22That's right, this two-and-a-half ton, four-door, former family sedan, we'll get to the former part in a second,
01:29was able to get within two-tenths of a million-dollar hypercar on a real racetrack.
01:36Again, it's just insane.
01:39And we should talk about the former family part.
01:42If you look here, you can see no back seat.
01:46Four doors, two seats, that's wacky.
01:49And that's just part of the weight savings you get with the Vysok package.
01:54Again, two-tenths of a second separate this from a McLaren Senna.
02:00Crazy.
02:01And allow me to show you just how crazy Purple Insanity here is.
02:13I would shout out my miles per hour, but I just go directly to jail.
02:17Holy cow!
02:19And it's not just that it goes fast, it's just how quickly it's going fast.
02:23It's nuts.
02:24But before we get what it's like to drive this thing,
02:28we've just got to talk some more about the car, some more numbers, some more insanity.
02:33First of all, these tires, they're PZero Trofeo RSs.
02:37They just stick like crazy on really good pavement.
02:43It just sounds as if you're constantly hitting something,
02:46but it's just the tires binding themselves up.
02:49Then there's the power!
02:51And then there's the power.
02:53And then there's the power.
02:55And then there's the power.
02:57And then there's the power.
02:59Then there's the power!
03:05Which, that's 1,092 horsepower.
03:08How do you contextualize that?
03:10The Plaid only makes 1,020.
03:13The Sapphire makes more.
03:15914 pound-feet of torque, whatever that means.
03:20You know, again, it's just a crazy amount.
03:25The brakes are also good, but back to the power.
03:28Braking for a corner there.
03:30Yeah, so 60 miles an hour happens in 1.89 seconds.
03:35That's less than 1.9, and I think it's the quickest car we've ever tested at 60 miles an hour.
03:41It slows down to the quarter mile because it's only the second quickest car we've ever tested.
03:45It's just behind the Lucid Air Sapphire.
03:49This sucker does the quarter mile 9.23 seconds at over 150 miles an hour.
03:56That's just straight-line nonsense.
03:58Who cares?
04:00I mean, I care, but, you know, the internet.
04:02Oh, who cares? You can go fast in a straight line.
04:05All right, all right.
04:07Well, this thing corners, too.
04:09I told you about Laguna Seca, but we have this test we call the Motor Trend Figure Eight Test.
04:13And in the history of testing cars, there are three machines that are quicker around our figure eight than the Taycan Turbo GT Vaisak.
04:22And they are, see if you've heard of them,
04:25the McLaren 765 LT Spyder,
04:28the Ferrari 296 Assetto Fiorano,
04:32and the Corvette that's called the Z06 Z07.
04:37And then one-tenth of a second behind that Corvette is this.
04:41Which is, like, crazy, because that means that, like, every Lamborghini ever made,
04:47every McLaren except for that one,
04:49every Porsche, every, every, every, you name it, Gunther Works, I don't care,
04:54is slower around a handling course than this 4,911-pound EV.
05:01Put that into a pipe and smoke it!
05:06The way this thing just smokes a road.
05:09Oh, my God. It's nuts.
05:18So how did this happen?
05:20Well, look, Porsche came out with the Taycan, it was their EV, it drives like a Porsche, it's great, everyone loves it.
05:25They make the Turbo S, over 700 horsepower, it's really great.
05:29And then Tesla comes along and they drop the Model S Plaid.
05:33And Plaid just invalidates this car.
05:35Costs less, goes way quicker, no one talking about the Taycan.
05:39Alright, well, they gotta answer.
05:41Simultaneously, Lucid, to everyone's surprise, comes out with the Sapphire,
05:46which not only makes, like, all the power in the universe,
05:49but has great handling because of its tricky torque vectoring dual-motor rear end.
05:55Okay, Porsche has to go back to the drawing board and they gotta do something.
05:59They're Porsche, right?
06:00They can beat these EV startups on a racetrack because that's what Porsche does.
06:05And I can almost see how it happened.
06:07Like, I'm sure deep in the bowels of the GT division in Weissach,
06:13they've got some kind of, like, you know, computer that, you know,
06:16you stick in the horsepower and torque and the weight and the chassis stiffness
06:21and the suspension stiffness and the tire grip and all these different factors
06:25and it spits out, like, hey, this is how fast this vehicle can go on a racetrack.
06:30And so it was like...
06:32Hannes?
06:33Ja, Henrik.
06:34Hannes, I noticed that if we were to pull 90.45 kilograms out of the Taycan,
06:42remove the back seat und add a wing,
06:44we could beat the 991.2 GT2 RS around Laguna Seca.
06:50Ja, obviously we could do that, Henrik, but it's so stupid.
06:55Why would you do that? No one wants that.
06:57No, ja, I agree, I agree.
06:59Hey, Hannes, didn't Wolfgang build the 991.2 GT2 RS?
07:06Ja, he did. Und I hate Wolfgang.
07:11Me too, Hannes, me too.
07:13Boom, that's how it got built, was just, like, because we can.
07:18And, you know, look, if you've spent any time watching Motor Trend videos over the last 15 years,
07:23that's the only reason why we do anything.
07:25You know, best reason of all.
07:27Why not?
07:29Whoa!
07:32If I would shut up and drive, wow, wow!
07:38It's just, like, it's Looney Tunes.
07:41All right, compare it to stuff.
07:43Feels about as quick as the Plaid.
07:44We know it's quicker.
07:45The Plaid is, like, you took mom's car and you made it, like, the Dragster of King.
07:51This just feels like a race car.
07:54Again, it's something different.
07:56It's not quite, like, the mommy mobile thing, but it's just, like,
07:59it's very digitized handling experience.
08:03Super fast, but that torque vectoring is so unnatural, slash, magic,
08:08that it's just, you don't trust it.
08:10Whereas this, you get race car vibes, right?
08:13It's like, oh, I'm staying flat through corners.
08:16I don't have to do anything.
08:17I don't have to do anything.
08:18I don't have to do anything.
08:19I don't have to do anything.
08:20I don't have to do anything.
08:21It's like, oh, I'm staying flat through corners.
08:23I have these big wide tires that are just grip, grip, grip, grip, grip.
08:28And it just, there's a race car feeling to this that is absent in those other
08:34two big super stands.
08:36You know, is it going to feel as good as a GT2 RS or a GT3 or that Ferrari 296?
08:44Like, no, it's not.
08:45But it's faster, maybe?
08:49Quicker?
08:50I mean, it's just, it's going to be, ah!
08:54It's just a mad machine.
08:56Again, I keep looking down and I'm seeing how fast I'm going.
09:00It's like, I'm in trouble.
09:02Oh!
09:03Woo!
09:04Woo!
09:05Ha ha!
09:06Hooah!
09:07Hooah!
09:08Hooah!
09:09Ha ha ha ha ha!
09:13It's just insane!
09:15It's just insane how quick this thing is.
09:18Negatives.
09:20Well, you probably want a backseat.
09:22Although I really love cars, you know, that have odd things like, you know,
09:27four doors, two seats.
09:28That's brilliant.
09:30You know, it's like I modded my Toyota GR Corolla and now I've got three
09:35cylinders and four exhaust pipes.
09:36Like, love it.
09:37Got to have it.
09:41When you're on it, oh, the range drops.
09:46You know, none of your friends will be able to keep up with you,
09:49which is maybe neutral.
09:51Like, if you want them to keep up, you have to drive slower.
09:54The tires probably cost a lot to replace.
09:56I mean, I'm trying to think, like, okay, are you really going to go to a
09:59racetrack?
10:00Well, you know, I was having this fight online, believe it or not.
10:03People fight online.
10:05And, you know, they're like, oh, who would ever do that?
10:08Well, you know, and maybe Southern California is different.
10:10But there are people that, like, track.
10:14They take Tesla Model 3 performances and they track the snot out of them.
10:18And there's companies like, you know, Unplugged Performance is just one of
10:22many that, you know, they lower and modify new wheels, new aero, all that,
10:27better suspension, all that stuff.
10:30And there are people that like to track EVs because you don't have to deal
10:34with gears.
10:35You have torque out of corners.
10:37And if you can make the front end, like, you know, not plow, boy, you've
10:41got a great race car.
10:44So there is, you know, a growing, a burgeoning, a budding market for
10:50insanely fast track-focused EVs.
10:54You know, prices may be a bad thing because I think it's, like, over
10:59$230,000.
11:01But, again, quickest car in the world to 60 miles an hour, a production
11:08car.
11:09Gangbusters in the quarter mile.
11:11The only thing faster is the Lucid Sapphire.
11:14And, you know, you can hang with Z07s and GT2 RSs on the racetrack.
11:20I mean, that's pretty impressive.
11:24So, in conclusion, yes, please, I would love to own this.
11:33Who wouldn't?
11:35It's just, like, I mean, okay.
11:37You've got to have access to, like, a canyon road like this.
11:40I live nine miles away.
11:42Or a racetrack.
11:43But, you know, if you can afford to spend over two bills on this thing,
11:47you have access to any racetrack you like.
11:51Oh, and then you can do this.
11:54The G-forces this thing generates are just wild.
11:58I think the most Gs we've ever recorded a motor train was, like, 1.17 on
12:04our skid pad.
12:05And I think this, I know this does 1.15.
12:08So, the Z06, the Z07 package.
12:11And this is, like, you know, two hundredths of a G-force off in terms of,
12:15you know, road holding.
12:17It's just the mightiest thing.
12:20Oh, and it's easy to drive and it's comfortable.
12:24Better seat bolstering, sure, you know.
12:27But, wow.
12:30And there's just always more power.
12:33And it seems like there's always more brakes.
12:35Like, just what a thing they've done.
12:38What an accomplishment.
12:40Again, like, you know, you may not understand it, but it's not for you.
12:47You hear what I'm saying?
12:50It's just not for you.
12:52I don't know who it's for, but I'd love to hang out with them.
12:56Woo!
12:57Anyhow, while I still have a legal driver's license,
13:01this is Johnny Lieberman signing off for Motor Trend.
13:04Thank you, as always, for watching.
13:05See you on the next one.
13:12Okay, I can't believe they actually sell this anymore.
13:16Woo!
13:26Did I ever tell you I love my job?
13:28Oh, bro.
13:30Dude.
