00:00 Keep a lookout for an exciting new series, Junkyard Gold, hosted by me, Steve Mignotti,
00:04 where we scour America's junkyards for automotive treasures.
00:07 This is a good one.
00:09 Premieres December 1st, exclusively on Motor Trend On Demand.
00:12 This time on Roadkill, we're bringing stubby bars back from the dead!
00:18 Oh! Oh, it's broke now!
00:22 Oh my God!
00:24 What did you do?!
00:26 I don't think it liked the 2-3 shift!
00:29 Ha ha ha!
00:30 This is it!
00:53 Stubby Bob is making a comeback!
00:55 As you'll remember, this is our 1950 Ford F6 2-ton dump truck.
01:00 I picked it up off a farm in Tennessee and surprised Freiburger with it.
01:04 We cut four feet off the back of the chassis, put a keg in for a gas tank, and Stubby Bob was born.
01:09 We kept the stock suspension, wheels, brakes, and engine, and tried to road trip it, but it sucked.
01:14 It didn't run well, the brakes barely worked, and we basically let it sit around for a year
01:19 until Freiburger had the genius idea to put a blown big block Chevy in the back and try to make it wheelie.
01:24 We put a junkyard 454 in backwards and connected it to a Gearstar 4L80E electronic overdrive transmission
01:33 and coupled that to a V-drive out of a boat in the cab that connects the drive shaft,
01:38 and lo and behold, we've got a monster wheelie machine.
01:41 It's great because it does wheelies, but horrible because it has no seatbelts, no safety,
01:47 and the stock suspension, which I'm pretty sure broke when it slammed to the ground.
01:51 So now, Tony and I want to make Bob a little more streetable, a little safer,
01:55 and then road trip it to the Eaglefield Drags in Firebaugh, California, and of course, do some amazing wheelies.
02:02 Yeah, this is like a total stroke of genius, this truck.
02:06 There it is.
02:07 I love this thing.
02:08 This may be the only good thing in my life I've built other than children.
02:11 It's like a terrible idea beautifully executed.
02:15 It really hurts me to look at it, I've got to be honest.
02:17 The last time I was in this thing, it folded me into a pretzel.
02:20 Because here's what happened, right?
02:21 Big wheelie, hard landing, something up here broke.
02:25 Look at that rear shackle.
02:27 Oh yeah, look, it fully extended.
02:29 Oh, it bent it.
02:30 It's unrolled.
02:31 Oh, it's unrolled it.
02:32 Yeah, that's insane.
02:34 This is balancing the entire weight, this corner of the car, on this little cup with a vertical piece of metal.
02:40 It's ridiculous.
02:41 I wonder if it even runs.
02:43 It's a little worse for sitting, man.
02:45 Jeez.
02:46 These are all brand new.
02:48 Everything is so crusty.
02:49 [laughs]
02:50 There's no hope the battery is charged, but give it a try.
02:56 Nothing.
02:58 Battery connected?
02:59 Dude, there's no battery in here.
03:01 Guys, there's no battery in here.
03:03 The battery is gone.
03:04 It needs fixing.
03:06 Yeah, if we want to do anything with this car, we've got to put some hands on it, put some hours in it.
03:11 We need to tow this thing out of here in one piece.
03:14 [music]
03:19 There's the car.
03:21 All right, after this, we're even for the Firebird.
03:24 Completely even.
03:25 That's perfect.
03:27 It's perfect.
03:28 The guy said it's perfect.
03:29 Good game.
03:30 Way to hustle.
03:31 Woo!
03:32 [music]
03:37 [music]
03:43 Oh, goodness.
03:45 That's awful.
03:46 So this thing spends a lot of time outside, and either through the headers or through this scoop, it's gotten a ton of water in the oil.
03:53 It looks absolutely garbage.
03:55 That's not a good start.
03:57 I feel very confident about this.
03:59 Dude, it's only a couple hundred miles.
04:02 That's the best part.
04:04 We built this thing to go and do wheelies in a parking lot.
04:07 Let's drive it across California.
04:09 Well, the best part about the Bob build is there's some serious engineering in here and a lot of care and time in certain things,
04:16 and then right at the end it was, "Whoa, we're out of time.
04:19 No seat belts.
04:20 Let's go do wheelies."
04:21 [music]
04:29 So we've got fresh oil and spark plugs in this thing.
04:31 I replaced a bunch of wrecked vacuum caps.
04:33 Finn put a battery in just because we figured let's fire it up and make sure this thing still runs before we try to drive it across the country.
04:39 Right?
04:40 Yes.
04:41 Do it.
04:42 Okay.
04:43 Is there gas in it?
04:44 Is there gas in it?
04:45 [engine starting]
04:51 It's doing stuff.
04:52 [engine starting]
04:55 It's not trying to fire at all.
04:57 Yeah, I haven't heard a burble or anything.
04:59 [engine starting]
05:03 You're not grounded on your ignition wire.
05:06 Sweet.
05:07 [engine starting]
05:10 That's better.
05:11 That's much better.
05:12 [engine starting]
05:21 Yeah.
05:22 It seems like they're all working.
05:23 Yeah, you think I should keep going?
05:25 Woo!
05:26 Wow, that thing is loud.
05:28 How come we always get all the really loud cars?
05:31 It definitely doesn't need mufflers.
05:33 Because the faster you go, the further behind you it'll be.
05:36 The sound.
05:37 Yes.
05:38 It'll just fall behind us.
05:39 Right.
05:40 We'll outrun it.
05:41 We'll outrun the sound.
05:42 That makes sense.
05:43 [music]
05:44 All right, so now the next big thing to deal with is--
05:46 Safety?
05:47 Well, yeah, safety and front suspension.
05:50 [music]
05:52 I just want to see what it does up here.
05:54 Try and lower it down.
05:55 That should get us where we have to go, and we'll see if it's flat.
05:57 [laughs]
06:00 Like nothing but hopes and dreams held that together.
06:03 It's level again.
06:04 Does it look better?
06:05 Oh, yeah.
06:06 That was my one big concern is that the whole frame was bent.
06:08 I bet we can go down two drag strips with this now.
06:10 Oh, yeah, now it's good.
06:11 [music]
06:17 Two 8-feet pipes.
06:19 Did you say a 60-degree bend?
06:20 With a 60-degree bend in 18 inches.
06:22 The bend is 18 inches from the end?
06:24 I think that works good.
06:25 Bob has already proven to have the ability to stand straight up on the trailer hitch,
06:30 and the trailer hitch is the only thing that keeps this truck from falling over backwards,
06:34 and I really don't trust it to do that every time you get a lead foot behind the wheel and do a wheelie.
06:39 So we're going to build not a full roll cage but just a roll bar.
06:42 We're talking Fall Guy truck style, and it'll be a simple main hoop that goes up just above the cab,
06:49 a down bar, and it'll have an X in the middle so that if the truck goes over backwards, we should be relatively safe.
06:55 In general, this is all that's going to save Tony and I from a lifetime of pain and suffering.
07:00 [music]
07:03 These are called Widowmaker wheels.
07:05 These are split rims that actually clamp together and bolt together in the middle of the rim,
07:11 and they routinely blow apart and kill people, so I want them off and away from me as quick as possible.
07:17 [music]
07:31 Right about now, you're wondering why did we take this out and what is that doing there?
07:35 Well, it's simple.
07:37 This is Rusty.
07:38 And it's got a super wonky bolt pattern, giant drum brakes that don't do anything.
07:44 The bolt pattern means we'd have to run those murder wheels, which we don't want to do, and it's got a bunch of broken spring pegs.
07:50 Yeah, this is junk. It really is junk.
07:52 And that is aftermarket parts that are much lighter and designed for a vehicle that is much lighter,
07:57 but because our engine is in the back, we think this will work and actually ride better, steer better, and stop better.
08:04 After yanking the entire front end off the truck, we found out each wheel weighed 130,
08:10 and the complete suspension weighed 400 pounds.
08:13 The idea is that you'll put wheels and tires on the axle, roll it underneath, lower the front end down,
08:20 and underweight tack everything together once you've measured it and it's all perfect.
08:23 So that's what we're going to do.
08:25 Hey, it's supporting it.
08:29 That's not so bad.
08:30 It's supporting it.
08:31 Dude, that's awesome.
08:34 [Music]
08:45 How do I open the hood on this thing?
08:47 Oh, that's cool.
08:50 In terms of safety, Bob has always been a disaster.
08:53 We needed to install seat belts, which meant we had to build a harness bar.
08:57 We needed headlights, which means we had to rewire the truck.
09:00 Even the seats were modified. They've always been flopping about the cab, so Tony welded them directly to the floor of the truck.
09:06 We spent hours all in the name of keeping us alive.
09:10 A race car now.
09:11 This feels so much safer right here.
09:13 Yeah, it's pretty good, huh?
09:14 Yeah.
09:15 [Music]
09:26 Steering adapter, done.
09:29 Here's where we're at.
09:30 New axle is in the truck, and right now I'm connecting the old steering, which moved forward and backwards to turn the wheel,
09:37 to our new knuckle, which moves left to right to turn the wheel.
09:40 And I'm converting it using a rod end, some misalignment spacers, and a little bit of ingenuity here.
09:47 Should work.
09:49 [Music]
09:54 It steers.
09:55 You're good.
09:56 [Music]
09:59 All right, so this is party mode.
10:00 This is party mode. That's what I'm thinking. I'm thinking party mode is here.
10:03 Where's get serious mode?
10:05 And then get serious mode, I'm thinking it's going to be like here. What do you think?
10:10 Yeah, that'll do it.
10:12 [Music]
10:20 Yeah.
10:21 What do you think of that?
10:23 Not bad.
10:24 Good job. How's it ride?
10:27 Look at that.
10:28 That's not bad, really.
10:29 You're going to be so comfortable.
10:30 I mean, when you combine that with the fact that there is no suspension in the back,
10:34 there's a happy medium between pain and suffering and paradise.
10:39 [Music]
10:42 Oh, man. Honestly, like, I'm terrified of this truck. Absolutely.
10:48 I'm really excited about the wheelies, just not the road trip.
10:51 Not the driving. Nope.
10:52 All right, buddy.
10:54 Godspeed.
10:55 Yeah, you got this.
10:57 [Music]
11:06 Your turn.
11:08 Let's go on an adventure.
11:10 [Music]
11:17 [Laughter]
11:18 Let's see. Does it stop?
11:22 Yeah, it breaks.
11:23 Pretty good.
11:25 [Music]
11:27 Oh, dude, the front end is so much better.
11:30 [Music]
11:34 Oh, wow. I think it picked the front wheels up.
11:37 Jesus Christ.
11:38 All right, I'm going to get on it hard and see what happens.
11:41 Yeah, it pulls left.
11:43 Oh, there's all the cops.
11:45 I'm trying to be casual.
11:48 [Music]
11:52 All right, that dude just gave me the horn.
11:54 Was that a cop?
11:55 A cop. We both nailed it.
11:57 Woo.
11:58 It's so loud even with these on.
12:00 Yeah, it's got a real mid-range grub.
12:04 Imagine how loud it is for the person next to it.
12:07 Oh, maybe they're just mad at it.
12:08 Yeah, like, they're trying to hear their music right now,
12:11 and they're just like, "What the hell?"
12:13 [Music]
12:26 Yeah, the heat coming in this crap is unreal.
12:30 The steering wheel is so hot I can barely hold it.
12:33 [Music]
12:35 Wait a minute. We're going to carpool lane.
12:37 Oh, yeah, of course.
12:39 [Music]
13:04 Go, go, go.
13:06 [Music]
13:28 We're cruising along, and all of a sudden,
13:30 I felt like a huge spray on my back,
13:32 and the battery exploded,
13:34 and then we couldn't breathe.
13:36 I pulled over and jumped out.
13:38 All right, I'll push.
13:41 We'll get going. We'll just go all the way to the bottom.
13:43 [Music]
13:51 You want to stick it over here, or what do you think?
13:53 Yeah, actually, just pull over by the wall.
13:54 That's probably our best place to work on it.
13:57 Now we've got all kinds of room between us
13:59 and cars that want to run us over.
14:01 [Music]
14:05 We were greedy. We protected our junk
14:07 and our toes up here with a trans tunnel,
14:09 but we didn't actually put a tunnel where the battery
14:11 and the trans are next to each other,
14:13 so poor battery.
14:15 Our battery didn't quite explode,
14:17 but it did puke its guts out,
14:19 so we're going to take baking soda,
14:21 neutralized battery acid.
14:23 We bought another battery. We're going to put it up front.
14:25 We're going to hook six-foot-long cables into the truck,
14:27 bolt them to our old ones, wrap them in electrical tape,
14:29 and keep on trucking.
14:31 All right. Battery terminals are tight.
14:33 I put a touch of tow in into the front end.
14:35 Nice work.
14:37 Look at you turning lemons into lemonade.
14:39 Just figured I had a couple minutes.
14:41 Battery blows up, stuck on the side of the road.
14:44 Hey, let's give it an alignment lower here.
14:47 I like it. Shall we?
14:49 Yeah, how do you plan on applying this?
14:51 Liberally.
14:53 Just ghost the whole thing?
14:55 Yeah.
14:56 That's probably good. I don't know what's worse.
14:58 We're going to get pulled over.
15:00 When do you think our cocaine load?
15:02 They're going to go, "Oh, my gosh."
15:04 They're smuggling.
15:06 There it is.
15:18 Oh, is it so bad?
15:20 Yeah. We only have 175 miles to go.
15:23 Is it really only 175?
15:25 That's what it says.
15:27 She runs like the wind.
15:29 Your turn.
15:31 That was gnarly.
15:48 Felt like the V-drive broke, but the motor shut off.
15:51 It might have locked.
15:55 Did it pop out of gear with the axle?
15:57 It's possible.
15:59 But why did the motor shut off?
16:01 Let me check the fuel pump, make sure it's running.
16:04 It's running.
16:06 Let's pop the cap off and make sure the rotor still spins.
16:09 Nope. Nothing.
16:12 It doesn't spin?
16:13 Doesn't spin.
16:15 We lost a timing gene or a gear on the distributor.
16:19 Here, crank it again.
16:22 [engine starts]
16:24 It's definitely not spinning?
16:27 I'm getting no pump.
16:29 Timing chain's gone.
16:31 Easiest thing to check is to pull the distributor right now.
16:35 It's not bad.
16:41 Alright, timing chain's busted then.
16:43 It wouldn't be a roadkill road trip without a ridiculous breakdown,
16:47 and this one really hurt.
16:49 We got outstranded.
16:51 We were still 90 miles away from the event,
16:53 and there was no way to fix the truck on the side of the road.
16:56 We had to put it on a tow truck and haul it to our hotel
16:59 and wait for daylight to really assess the damage.
17:02 Sit right in front of me.
17:09 Oh, it sheared all three bolts off.
17:16 This is new levels of destruction for a roadkill.
17:19 So we're into the timing chain now.
17:21 Finn theorizes the bolts weren't properly tightened and they broke off,
17:25 but we're still missing a dowel pin.
17:27 So basically, the crankshaft wasn't connected to the camshaft,
17:30 which we already had figured out.
17:32 We're going to go ahead, get everything bolted back up,
17:34 put on a new chain and gears, and see what happens.
17:37 Yes! Boom!
17:43 No drilling, no easy outs.
17:46 I have to turn this bolt into a dowel for a camshaft,
17:50 and there's no electricity in the parking lot,
17:52 so I'm in our producer's little bathroom.
17:56 Mission accomplished.
18:03 I got a dowel now.
18:05 It's going to work.
18:12 Oh yeah! It's spinning.
18:15 I like it. Why not?
18:18 It did move.
18:21 Ow!
18:24 There we go.
18:26 Another quarter inch, maybe?
18:30 My hand's really close now.
18:36 [Music]
18:39 Let's go drive.
18:51 So we're cruising along, headed to Eaglefield Drags,
18:59 where there's a party happening.
19:01 Yeah, we love parties.
19:02 We were very excited about that.
19:03 And all of a sudden, my feet got wet.
19:05 I looked down at the gauge, and it was at 250.
19:07 And I thought, "Oh hell, here we go."
19:08 That's too much.
19:09 That's too much.
19:10 And we pretty much have figured out,
19:12 we have an air pocket in the cooling system,
19:14 and our solution is going to be to do something you shouldn't do,
19:17 and that's to back our car into the ditch.
19:20 So that we can get the fill high enough,
19:22 completely above the whole engine,
19:24 because the motor sits pretty high in the back,
19:26 and with where the radiator is,
19:28 we're not able to get rid of that bubble.
19:30 So we're going to wrap it around.
19:31 When we're all done, we're going to try and bonsai our way back onto the shoulder,
19:34 without swerving into oncoming traffic.
19:36 It's a great idea.
19:37 Do not try this at home.
19:38 I love it.
19:39 All right.
19:40 You're good.
19:41 Hey, those front brakes work great.
19:54 This feels familiar.
20:00 [Engine revs]
20:02 Good?
20:08 I think so.
20:09 [Music]
20:27 [Music]
20:29 We're here.
20:44 This is Eagle Field.
20:45 This place is awesome.
20:46 And I believe Bob has only sat here overnight,
20:49 so it shouldn't spontaneously have combusted.
20:51 It should be ready to run.
20:52 We're going to fire it up.
20:53 You're going to do the first wheelie run down the track in conservative party mode.
20:58 And then we'll go raging alcoholic party mode.
21:00 There's a guy here who's like 80,
21:02 and he's done wheel stands forever.
21:04 And he's still doing it at 80.
21:05 So we can't suck.
21:06 We need to be good at this.
21:08 We need to unroadkill this program right now.
21:10 Let's go.
21:11 I think you've got to go for it.
21:18 It's going to go.
21:19 It's going to hang it up pretty good.
21:21 Just try to steer it straight.
21:23 You got a plan?
21:24 With the wheels in the air.
21:26 Everyone's got a plan until they get punched in the face.
21:28 Exactly.
21:29 All right.
21:30 Ready?
21:31 Yes.
21:32 All right, buddy.
21:33 High five.
21:34 Good luck.
21:35 Yeah.
21:36 You got it.
21:37 Hug my wife.
21:38 Fire this thing up.
21:39 [Music]
21:42 [Engine revving]
21:44 Woo!
21:55 All right, baby.
22:07 Let's see what you can do.
22:09 [Engine revving]
22:11 Oh, no.
22:16 Kiss that U-joint goodbye.
22:18 No!
22:19 [Engine revving]
22:21 What happened?
22:35 I think the V-drive's junk.
22:37 Yeah, it's the V-drive.
22:38 You can feel it.
22:39 It's that small input shaft.
22:41 Well, haven't exactly gotten to test all our new mods out
22:50 because on the very first pass, I grenaded the V-drive.
22:53 And it wasn't the gears that came apart.
22:55 It was the little, tiny, itty-bitty input shafts
22:57 that just twisted, broke the keyways,
22:59 and beat the hell out of the drive shafts.
23:01 And we pulled the V-drive out of the car.
23:03 It's junk.
23:05 All right, all right.
23:07 That's not coming apart.
23:08 So after an hour of messing around and looking for other V-drives,
23:11 we can't find anything that's brand new.
23:13 So I'm saying we should take this thing over to--
23:15 there's a local hanger with a torch.
23:17 Torch this bottom shaft, try to straighten it out the best we can,
23:20 and then we're going to weld the drive flange back onto this input shaft.
23:23 And hopefully, we can at least get some wheelies out of this truck
23:25 before the end of the day.
23:27 [Music]
23:30 [Music]
23:32 So we're starting with the output shaft, which is severely bent.
23:45 We're just trying to torch it until it's red hot.
23:47 We're going to bend it back into position,
23:49 and then we will try to weld back the input shaft,
23:52 which is totally sheared off, to this drive flange.
23:55 Neither one sounds easy.
23:58 It's starting to glow now.
24:00 All right.
24:02 [Music]
24:04 Oh, dude, it's so much better.
24:16 It's crazy.
24:17 And now's the time to weld it because that thing's hot.
24:20 So let's take it right now.
24:22 That might be the first time we have our blacksmith on Roadkill.
24:24 It went pretty good.
24:25 Tony got that thing almost perfectly straight.
24:28 So we're going to TIG weld the coupler to the shaft
24:32 and then pray to God that all this heat treating didn't, you know,
24:37 basically make that thing so soft that the first time you hit the gas pedal,
24:40 it twists and breaks in half like the top one did.
24:42 [Music]
24:44 Wouldn't try this at home.
24:47 It's working, though.
24:49 Okay.
24:52 Rotate it some more.
24:54 It's actually penetrating too, which is blowing my mind.
24:56 This thing's spinning pretty good.
24:57 Thank God for preheat.
24:59 The input shaft is now our issue.
25:02 Part of the shaft is inside of the pulley.
25:05 So we're trying to press this thing out.
25:07 Is it going?
25:08 Yeah, I think it's going.
25:09 Yeah, keep going.
25:11 Yeah.
25:15 Watch out.
25:16 That'll go to the center of the earth.
25:18 So here's our V-drive.
25:19 Input shaft up here broke that clean off.
25:22 Output shaft twisted it and bent it.
25:25 We torched this.
25:26 Tony hammered it straight.
25:27 Then we TIG welded the coupler right to it.
25:30 We couldn't do that here.
25:31 There wasn't enough room or shaft to TIG weld that back on.
25:34 So our new friend here turned it down in a lathe.
25:36 We hammered it back on, and now he's going to stick weld this thing back together.
25:40 In an airplane hanger on a Sunday.
25:43 Setting records here on Roadkill.
25:44 It's going to be awesome.
25:45 Yeah.
25:46 Just give me one wheelie, just one good one.
25:48 [Music]
25:51 A little higher.
25:52 Yeah.
25:55 Oh yeah, we got plenty of engagement.
25:57 All right.
25:59 Well, we just fixed the V-drive.
26:01 We've never had a real successful test of Stubby Robert, and yet, despite that, we're going right to party mode.
26:08 Because the sun's going down, the track's going to close soon, and we only get one chance.
26:12 And we like to party.
26:13 We like to party.
26:14 All right, we've a little easier.
26:16 Yes.
26:17 That's all.
26:18 Less cowbell.
26:19 Got it.
26:20 All right, so leave soft.
26:23 Do a good wheelie.
26:25 But the wheelie bars are about two feet off the ground.
26:27 So, yeah.
26:29 Don't exactly know what to do.
26:31 So I'm just going to send it.
26:33 [Laughter]
26:35 All right, here we go.
26:41 I'm not going to put it on the converter, because I don't want to break the V-drive.
26:45 I'm just going to get it rolling, and I'm going to punch it.
26:48 Here we go.
26:49 Here we go.
26:50 No!
26:58 Come on!
26:59 You've got to be kidding me.
27:02 Ah!
27:03 All that work.
27:07 All that work.
27:09 Ah!
27:10 The wheel broke.
27:12 Let's go.
27:13 Input.
27:14 I didn't spool it at all.
27:16 I know.
27:18 We worked so hard.
27:20 Talk about a kick in the nuts.
27:23 We had the opportunity to make Bob wheelie in front of a thousand people at the Eaglefield drags,
27:29 and we ended up sucking wind.
27:31 The event was over.
27:32 We left.
27:33 Two weeks later, we bought a brand new V-drive, and we went back to the scene of the crime,
27:38 trying to redeem ourselves in front of a large crowd of zero.
27:42 So here's what happened, right?
27:43 Our dump truck rear end has about, oh, that much slop in it.
27:47 The drive shaft's got to spin that far before it actually engages that and turns these,
27:52 which is what hammers the V-drive and breaks it.
27:54 So you think all that shock, boom, twisted them up.
27:58 Yeah, junk.
27:59 Because they were destroyed.
28:00 So our solution is not to fix the problem, the rear end.
28:03 It's to replace the V-drive with a much newer, much more expensive unit built for a Baja trophy truck.
28:08 This actually has splined input and output shafts that are a larger diameter,
28:13 and according to Slim, the guy we bought the original V-drive from, that will make up for this crap.
28:19 So that should work, and we should be able to do wheelies now.
28:21 Let's do it.
28:22 Hopefully more than once.
28:23 More wheelies is better wheelies.
28:25 You didn't think we'd leave you with no wheelies in the whole episode, right?
28:36 Never!
28:37 We didn't work this hard to quit.
28:39 All right, pumping the brakes.
28:42 Woo!
28:43 Oh my god.
28:47 No, there's no way.
28:49 I think the rear end came out of gear.
28:52 All right, turn it off.
28:54 Dude, you're not going to believe this.
28:56 It broke the U-joint.
28:57 The V-drive is fine.
28:59 We need a U-joint.
29:00 The U-joint broke because it was hollow inside,
29:03 but hours later, we found a solid one, and we're back in business.
29:07 [Engine starting]
29:09 What the f--
29:21 The drive shaft twisted in half.
29:30 Oh, dude.
29:31 All right, it's take two here at Eagle Field, and this is like a bad dream.
29:35 We have now destroyed the driveline in Stubby Bob.
29:38 For the second time, we all flew back out with an upgraded V-drive,
29:41 and we thought we were ready to kill it, and then it exploded on the first run
29:45 because there's now slightly smaller U-joints in there.
29:47 And then we got new ones, put it all back together,
29:50 and Finnegan ripped on it, and it tore the drive shaft in half.
29:53 So this thing has done zero wheelies since we started working on it
29:56 and has boned us complete failure like three times.
30:00 So we're hanging out at Eagle Field, you know, having an average day,
30:04 and drive shaft twisted in half.
30:07 All by itself.
30:08 Serious carnage. Spontaneous. I don't even know how this happens.
30:11 And we're sitting there going, "Oh, my God. Now we need a drive shaft,"
30:15 except it's Saturday. All the driveline companies are closed.
30:18 And we're in the middle of nowhere.
30:19 Yeah, nowhere. Nowhere.
30:21 30 miles in every direction.
30:22 We make a new friend, Wes, who just happens to have, believe it or not,
30:27 a Stubby Bob of his own, a 1950 Ford F6,
30:30 two-ton dump truck sitting in his backyard with the drive shaft.
30:34 So we're going to cut this up.
30:36 We're going to weld our yoke onto his piece, and tomorrow--
30:40 We will do wheelies.
30:41 We will do wheelies.
30:43 Or something.
30:46 [welding]
30:49 [welding]
31:01 [music]
31:11 You didn't really think after all that work that we wouldn't be wheeling this thing, would you?
31:16 Woo!
31:17 [laughing]
31:26 I want to go further.
31:31 You can't see anything.
31:33 No.
31:34 [laughing]
31:40 [laughing]
31:41 It's still working!
31:42 It's still working!
31:43 Woo!
31:44 All right.
31:46 Hell yeah.
31:47 We're going to do that again, but I'm not lifting.
31:49 It's real high.
31:52 Oh, dude.
31:53 Oh, yeah.
31:54 It's up there.
31:55 Woo!
31:56 Oh, boy.
31:58 Okay, you ready?
32:00 [welding]
32:09 [music]
32:12 [laughing]
32:17 [laughing]
32:24 Yeah!
32:26 [laughing]
32:28 [welding]
32:33 Woo!
32:34 [welding]
32:37 Woo!
32:43 Woo!
32:44 Woo!
32:45 Woo!
32:46 [laughing]
32:47 I need to see it!
32:50 Oh, my God.
32:51 Yeah!
32:53 Woo!
32:54 It's not broken either.
32:57 Woo!
32:58 Woo!
32:59 That was amazing.
33:01 Yes!
33:02 Yes!
33:03 Look how far away we are!
33:05 Dude!
33:06 Oh, my God.
33:07 How far did it go?
33:08 It was really far.
33:09 It stood up like this and it just kept going.
33:11 Woo!
33:12 [laughing]
33:13 Woo!
33:14 Oh, my God.
33:15 That was amazing.
33:16 Hell yeah.
33:17 It's still good.
33:18 You could drive it.
33:19 I'm in.
33:20 Here's the key to more distance.
33:21 We're tapped out in second.
33:22 Yeah.
33:23 So once it's up there--
33:24 Knock it up a gear.
33:25 --go for third.
33:26 Oh, yeah.
33:27 That sounds good.
33:28 [laughing]
33:29 [engine revving]
33:31 [engine revving]
33:58 Oh, my God.
33:59 I don't want to say it, but apparently, once again, Tony breaks everything.
34:04 Jesus.
34:05 What did you do?
34:07 I don't think it liked the two-three shift!
34:10 [laughing]
34:11 We did some kick-ass wheelies.
34:13 Dude, we did.
34:14 Oh, my God.
34:15 We did.
34:16 What a good day.
34:17 Well, admittedly, when we built Bob the first time, we didn't think it would work.
34:20 So the engine wasn't designed to be vertical, which is why it tried to fall out and the
34:24 driveshaft fell out.
34:25 Not because you broke it.
34:26 That's true.
34:27 So we'll be back with Bob again later doing even better and more epic wheelies.
34:32 Yeah, this thing is the best.
34:33 It's the best.
34:34 Wheelies are my new favorite thing.
34:36 Oh, dude.
34:37 Forget drifting.
34:38 Yeah.
34:39 Just the best.
34:40 Just wheelies.
34:41 Dump truck wheelies.
34:42 I'm going to turn all my cars into wheelie cars.
34:43 There you go.
34:44 Hey, those wheels are kind of cambered.
34:46 Ready to hit the drift circuit.
34:48 It's not a drift truck.
34:50 [laughing]
34:51 This is the biggest win Roadkill has ever had.
34:55 We busted our asses, built something amazing, destroyed it in the process, and achieved
35:02 glory that most humans never get to witness in their lifetime.
35:06 I can't wait to bring Stubby Bob back and make it even better.
35:09 Support companies that support Roadkill.
35:15 Buy your speed parts at JEGS.com.
35:18 I learned about something today that's really important.
35:22 It's really cool.
35:23 It's called a plain bagel with butter.
35:26 Apparently, it's fantastic.
35:28 I'm going to try one in a minute.
35:29 That's what I'm talking about.
35:31 So you're saying this is just a plain bagel toasted with butter.
35:36 Mmm.
35:39 Can you believe it's not butter?
35:40 That is good.
35:41 I can't.
35:42 So this is just a plain bagel toasted with butter.
35:48 Unbelievable.
35:50 It's so good.
35:52 [crunching]
35:54 [whoosh]
35:55 (whooshing)
35:58 you
