00:02 This time it's the 50th episode of Roadkill.
00:21 10 project cars, one Kia, lots of win.
00:25 I like your confidence.
00:27 (car engine revving)
00:30 (gunshots firing)
00:33 This episode is by popular demand.
00:50 On our 25th episode, we got together all the project cars
00:54 that we had up to date and took them to a parking lot
00:56 and thrashed on them for no apparent reason.
00:58 (car engine revving)
01:01 And fans dug it and they've all been asking,
01:08 are we gonna do it again for this, our 50th episode?
01:11 And the answer is yes.
01:13 At this point, every Roadkill car
01:15 that's gonna run is running.
01:17 But as usual, we got one or two stragglers
01:19 that need a bit of work.
01:20 The Maserati, that thing needed an entire new hub assembly
01:24 because the wheel was literally trying
01:25 to fall off this thing as we drove it down the block.
01:29 And then there's the Ratsan, our little 240Z
01:32 that has never failed to fail.
01:34 We tore the engine out of the car for this show
01:36 and it was a goner.
01:38 Oh, that's awesome, the crank broke.
01:40 The crankshaft is broken in two pieces.
01:43 In my short lifetime, I've never actually seen someone
01:46 break a crankshaft.
01:48 That is a new levels of Roadkill right there.
01:50 Yep, this thing's a dead player.
01:52 Wow.
01:53 This thing's garbage.
01:54 Then there's the Nascarlo, which I backed into the guardrail
01:58 at a dirt track hard the last time you saw this car.
02:01 It needed a control arm, ball joint,
02:03 and we had to do a little bit of body work on it.
02:06 You wanted to see the Nascarlo return?
02:08 It's gonna return in full glory, right?
02:10 Oh yeah.
02:11 (upbeat music)
02:13 Chunk.
02:20 (upbeat music)
02:23 Oh shit, dude, I'm sorry.
02:29 You knew that was coming.
02:31 (laughing)
02:32 Yeah, I won't swing as hard this time.
02:34 Give me that.
02:34 (laughing)
02:36 Hey, we've never really worried about aesthetics before,
02:38 so all we gotta do is pull it this way,
02:40 make sure the tires don't hit, keep on trucking.
02:42 Can we use zip ties and duct tape?
02:44 (upbeat music)
02:48 Oh yeah, that's gonna work perfectly, right?
02:50 We have Bob, we have a chain, we have a car with a detonate.
02:54 This all makes sense to me.
02:56 (upbeat music)
02:58 This truck is awesome.
03:01 I love this truck.
03:03 Go ahead.
03:04 It's working!
03:08 Keep going.
03:09 Oh, that's awesome.
03:12 Mostly.
03:16 (upbeat music)
03:18 It's gonna take a while.
03:21 It's working.
03:25 Hold on.
03:26 Oh, dude!
03:31 Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa!
03:35 Hold on, let me measure.
03:36 No, we need another half inch, do it again.
03:40 That fixed that problem.
03:45 Oh, this is like new.
03:47 It actually did a lot of good.
03:48 It did.
03:49 It took the kink out of that and put that back down.
03:51 I mean, you can barely tell.
03:53 (upbeat music)
03:55 Okay.
04:02 It's almost there.
04:06 Nope.
04:09 Well, the zip ties will hold it, I'm sure it's fine.
04:15 Does it run?
04:16 I don't know.
04:17 It's alive!
04:21 It's definitely crooked.
04:26 Oh, it's amazing.
04:30 I love that noise.
04:32 That is the music of my people right there.
04:35 Still has no brakes, so it's perfect.
04:39 Yeah, oh yeah, let's go racing.
04:43 (upbeat music)
04:46 We've been shuffling cars back and forth all day
04:48 and we're down to two.
04:49 We've got Bob over there,
04:51 which is gonna go on the trailer, I hope,
04:53 'cause it technically doesn't really fit
04:54 between the fenders.
04:55 And then there's the duster,
04:56 which I'm gonna drive home tonight
04:57 and hopefully make it home
04:58 and all the way out to the track tomorrow.
05:01 Yeah.
05:02 You got it, go, go, go!
05:09 Yeah, hold it, hold it, hold it.
05:12 Oh, that's good.
05:13 So we've got 10 mediocre Roadkill Project cars
05:24 that all roll and run at the same time.
05:27 This is awesome!
05:29 This is Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California,
05:32 where there's a go-kart track
05:33 and a drag strip and a road course,
05:36 and we're not gonna use any of that
05:37 because we've got soccer mom cones
05:39 and a parking lot to race in.
05:41 Let's look at some of the cars that are AWOL here.
05:44 We've already shown you how the Ratsen is broken in half.
05:46 Second, the sinkhole Corvette,
05:48 we gave that thing back to the guy we bought it from.
05:50 The Baja Bug, sold to the bartender across the street.
05:54 Pigpen, sold to the father-in-law of our director.
05:57 We had one episode where we went head-to-head
05:59 with a brand new Subaru.
06:01 Who knows where that car went,
06:02 and let's be honest, who really cares?
06:04 Then there's the Ford station wagon.
06:06 We sold that to our boss.
06:07 The Buick wagon, however,
06:09 is still in the hands of the kid we gave it to.
06:12 The lowrider, that was the biggest piece of trash ever,
06:15 so naturally, we gave it to one of our production guys.
06:18 The other Jaguar that we raced against the Dragwar,
06:21 Junkyard.
06:22 The Blasphemy, stranded at Finnegan's house in Georgia.
06:25 And the General Mayhem,
06:26 also locked down at an auto parts convention out of state.
06:30 Look at that, that's over 4,000 horsepower,
06:36 and it's only worth maybe 20 bucks.
06:39 (engine revving)
06:41 - I don't know why I'm nervous, none of these are mine.
06:52 - 'Cause it's a miracle that we survived 50 episodes
06:55 with behavior like that.
06:57 - Can you believe this?
06:58 This has been five years and 50 episodes.
07:00 - Is that right, five years?
07:01 - Yeah, this has gone on five.
07:02 - Wow.
07:03 So remember the 25th episode
07:04 when we did the same thing with those project cars?
07:07 We had a bogey.
07:08 The Motor Trend guys brought out that Kia.
07:10 - We kicked their asses.
07:11 - I know.
07:12 - But not their car.
07:13 - I felt we needed to have another Kia Rio 5,
07:14 so I invited a special guest.
07:16 - Who did you invite?
07:18 (engine revving)
07:19 Oh, wow.
07:20 - Coming in hot!
07:22 - You brought Santa Claus to the party.
07:23 (laughing)
07:24 Nice.
07:25 - That thing suits you.
07:27 Oh, we--
07:28 (tires screeching)
07:28 - Come on!
07:29 - For you in the audience, you just met Lucky Costa.
07:32 He works on Hot Rod Garage,
07:33 and you've seen him around Roadkill every once in a while.
07:36 So he's gonna come out here
07:37 and try and set a good lap time in the Kia.
07:39 We've got 10 of the cars that are still running and driving
07:41 that you've seen on the show since the 25th episode.
07:45 We're gonna find out which one of these things
07:46 is faster on the autocross,
07:48 and which one can beat a Kia.
07:50 (tires screeching)
07:52 - Sadly, the Kia with, you know,
07:54 a third of the horsepower of everything here.
07:56 - Yeah.
07:57 It's probably gonna do pretty well.
07:58 - It's probably gonna do really well,
07:59 'cause it did the last time.
08:00 - You ever driven a Kia before?
08:02 - No.
08:03 - This'll go well.
08:05 We brought the guy in for comic relief,
08:07 and he gave us that, behind the wheel.
08:10 I think I picked the right guy for this.
08:13 I really think I did.
08:15 He was so slow that Finnegan and I decided
08:18 we had to at least try and outrun him.
08:20 - I'm exhausted.
08:22 - Yeah, we were taking a lunch break while you were out there.
08:24 (whistling)
08:27 See, I'm thinking the problem was,
08:29 Lucky was afraid to use the anti-locks like this.
08:34 I'm back on the throttle.
08:36 (engine revving)
08:39 I am outside the course.
08:47 - He's treating it like a rental.
08:54 (laughing)
08:58 You have something to time with, or?
08:59 - Yeah, I'm timing.
09:00 It's already running.
09:01 (upbeat music)
09:04 - He's on track.
09:10 - Oh yeah, well he's gonna win radically.
09:13 You just established a baseline in the Kia.
09:19 That's the number to beat with the Roadkill cars.
09:21 - So I should have sandbagged, is what you're saying.
09:22 - 47.77.
09:24 I have confidence we are gonna outrun that.
09:30 - Stubby Bob is a 1950 Ford F6 two-ton dump truck.
09:35 And it's powered by a flathead
09:37 with a non-synchronized three-speed transmission.
09:40 That means I can't drive the thing,
09:41 'cause you've gotta double clutch it,
09:43 and my grandpa never taught me how to do that.
09:45 - Please don't blow up the flathead.
09:47 - No promises.
09:48 - Oh, I should probably time this, or?
09:50 Oh, do you have your calendar with you?
09:51 - I do, my phone has an app for that.
09:53 - Are you all set?
09:56 - I'm as good as I'm gonna get.
09:58 - Three, two, one, go!
10:01 - Come on, baby.
10:08 Oh, I wonder if the rear end is in low gear.
10:11 Go, go, go!
10:12 Oh, I smell gas.
10:17 Ah, the rear end came out of gear.
10:25 Does that count?
10:27 Is it on fire?
10:28 Oh, I think it died.
10:29 Oh, come on, you piece of crap.
10:33 The rear end came out of gear!
10:36 - There we go.
10:40 Got it.
10:41 - Oh, it's going, going, going, going, going, going, going!
10:50 And he's gonna keep rolling for quite a ways, and boom!
10:54 - It handles all right.
10:56 - I saw that, I was kinda surprised.
10:59 - Yeah, but as you can tell,
11:01 the rear end keeps coming out of gear.
11:02 - Yeah.
11:03 - 156.06.
11:05 - Yeah!
11:07 I'm thinking any gear I can get it in
11:09 is gonna be the right gear.
11:10 Wow, I hate doing that.
11:18 Oh, my biggest problem is holding myself in the seat.
11:24 Was I this slow?
11:26 Yeah.
11:27 And maybe it'll stop.
11:33 Boom!
11:37 Was there winning?
11:38 - Well, yeah, I mean, you're supposed to stop
11:39 in the middle of the track.
11:41 Check the truck out.
11:42 - I'm gonna say that was 59.
11:46 What was it?
11:50 - That's good, buddy.
11:51 One minute, 12 seconds, a little over 210.
11:54 We're trying to run these cars in order
11:56 from slowest to quickest.
11:58 I think it's a fair assumption that Bob here
12:01 is gonna be the loser of the day.
12:03 Now, Bob can return to its slow-paced life of retirement.
12:07 - This is the best job ever, right?
12:10 This doesn't suck.
12:11 - Next up is our truck known as Harry.
12:14 This is a 1971 Ford F350,
12:19 crew cab four-door, four on the floor,
12:22 four-wheel drive, 460 big block powered tow truck.
12:27 It turns out that Harry the tow truck
12:29 is an absolute ace at drifting in the snow.
12:32 On the autocross, not so much.
12:34 Are we going on one or go?
12:36 - Soon as that pinky drops, you're out of here.
12:38 - Okay.
12:39 - Ready? - Yep.
12:40 - Set, go.
12:41 - This thing just has that one-finger power steering
12:47 and the nice truck-like clunky four-speed,
12:51 and it's still on the snow tires.
12:52 - Wow, got a little tire squeal there.
12:56 - Safety first. - All right.
13:05 - I'll be using the force.
13:07 - Okay.
13:07 Nice, oh shit.
13:10 - Ooh, oh, now it's a party.
13:13 Come on, Harry, you got this.
13:16 Yes.
13:17 How many neutrals did it have when it left?
13:19 Don't forget that one of our office guys
13:21 put diesel in this thing last week.
13:23 Is there any transmission left in that thing?
13:40 - It's transmission-like.
13:41 - I don't care how fast it is around an autocross.
13:45 I want to own this.
13:46 I would buy this thing now,
13:47 except my wife would probably make me live in it.
13:50 But you know what?
13:51 It's a crew cab, that might not be that bad.
13:53 So thus far, we do not have a vehicle
13:55 that is faster than the Kia.
13:57 - Day ain't over yet.
13:58 - Ah, the Roncero.
14:01 This is the only car in the show
14:03 that was also in our 25th episode.
14:05 Right now, it is loaded with a fairly gutless
14:08 Ford 302 small block V8.
14:11 It's still got its full race Gearstar C4 transmission.
14:14 This thing is pathetically slow
14:16 and handles terrible.
14:18 You might remember the Ranchero
14:19 from the two different times we drove it to Alaska,
14:22 or when we raced it against a Subaru.
14:25 This thing is a pile.
14:27 I feel supremely confident
14:29 that this is not going to beat the Kia.
14:31 I have not one, but two thermometers at my disposal,
14:34 and I'm sure this will come in handy
14:37 as I negotiate this racetrack.
14:39 - Ready?
14:40 Get set.
14:43 Go.
14:46 Oh, cheater.
14:48 - Wasn't my time.
14:52 Ready?
14:53 Get set.
14:54 Go.
14:55 Go, go, go, you pile.
15:00 Oh, this car is sketchy.
15:02 Come on, girl.
15:11 Hunker down, we got this.
15:14 Woo-hoo-hoo.
15:15 Oh, she's not bad, but she's not good either.
15:18 - I'd say that was a power slide,
15:22 but there's not really a lot of power involved there.
15:24 Look at it wallow.
15:27 That is hideous.
15:28 - Yeah.
15:33 This car is so bad, it's good.
15:36 - Where's our list?
15:37 It should still be in the back.
15:40 Then it won't be.
15:41 Is our list still in here?
15:43 We lost our list.
15:46 That's not trash, those are racing documents.
15:50 - I remember a lot of it.
15:52 - I'm sure you do.
15:53 We lost our time list.
15:57 So, so Finnegan won it all.
16:00 We need to find the list.
16:01 You know what they say about data?
16:03 Garbage in, garbage out.
16:05 Our numbers were garbage when we wrote them down
16:08 on the piece of paper,
16:09 and they were completely wrong.
16:10 We wrote them down on the piece of paper
16:12 and they were completely out
16:13 when we lost the piece of paper.
16:15 So we pretty much winged it by memory
16:17 and rewound the video a couple of times.
16:18 Now I got to remember to get all the way in the box.
16:27 - 48.74 seconds, sir.
16:33 It looked good.
16:34 I mean, I think I only saw the front rim
16:35 hit the ground once.
16:37 - I can't hear you over the cart track.
16:40 - You know, the thing is,
16:41 when you completely lose the data,
16:43 you can kind of pick your winners.
16:44 And I would like to pick the Ranchero as beating the Kia,
16:47 but no, Ranchero is in fact slower than a Kia Rio 5.
16:52 Now here's the crop duster, a 1970 Plymouth duster.
17:03 And in episode 40,
17:04 we took the engine out of the General Mayhem,
17:06 that big block 440, and stuffed it in the duster.
17:09 But since then, I have swapped out a new engine.
17:12 This thing has a 500 horsepower,
17:14 big block 3D3 Chrysler in it.
17:17 Next to the muscle truck,
17:18 the duster is probably the meanest sounding car
17:21 we have here today.
17:22 - Three, two, one, go!
17:29 - The duster rips.
17:36 This thing blazes tire.
17:37 It corners okay.
17:39 It actually stops.
17:40 It's got decent brakes.
17:41 - And it is hilarious on the autocross.
17:43 This thing lays the door handles on the ground
17:45 going around corners,
17:47 but that really isn't important when you're out there
17:49 smoking tires and shrieking through
17:52 those three inch cherry bombs.
17:53 I love this thing.
17:55 Yeah!
18:01 (engine revving)
18:03 - It is faster than a Kia Rio.
18:13 - No.
18:14 - Yes it is.
18:14 - Yeah!
18:15 - Yeah!
18:16 - 46.77.
18:18 - One full second better.
18:20 - That's the first time I've ever driven that.
18:21 - I know.
18:22 - Good car.
18:23 - It sounds so good.
18:24 - Yeah.
18:25 - It really shrinks.
18:26 - It's a good exhaust note.
18:26 - Three, two, one, go!
18:29 (engine revving)
18:32 - Man, Crop Duster is good.
18:54 (upbeat music)
18:57 - I'm just laughing at us.
19:02 - It's faster than a Kia Rio.
19:04 - I feel amazing that we beat a Kia Rio.
19:06 - I know!
19:07 - And that's our lesson here, kids.
19:10 Lower, lower, lower your expectations
19:14 until you achieve a goal.
19:15 What's your level of trepidation here,
19:19 given that you've never piloted this
19:21 around a corner at any speed?
19:23 - I feel pretty good.
19:24 - You're claiming that I'm gonna spin it out?
19:26 I'm ready.
19:28 - The Maserati combines two of my favorite things in life,
19:33 boats and mini trucks.
19:35 This is a 1974 Mazda RPU pickup,
19:38 which means it used to be rotary powered,
19:40 but now it's got a 455 old mounted in the bed
19:44 on top of a Tornado transaxle.
19:47 And what does that mean for us?
19:48 This thing handles ill.
19:50 - Two, one, go!
19:52 (engine revving)
19:54 - Does it have brakes?
19:56 - Not really.
19:57 (upbeat music)
19:59 (laughing)
20:09 - He's still going!
20:10 - There you go.
20:11 Stay in it, buddy, stay in it!
20:13 - Man.
20:14 (laughing)
20:21 - That was amazing.
20:22 - Oh, that was awesome!
20:23 - That was amazing.
20:24 That was the most fun yet!
20:26 - I think it's pretty good.
20:27 Go.
20:28 - It's transmission.
20:29 - Yeah.
20:30 - It just raised the stall a little, that's all.
20:31 - It'll be okay.
20:32 Think how cool it'll look when this thing's
20:33 just pouring flames out the back
20:35 while you're going on your run.
20:37 - Three, two, one!
20:40 (engine revving)
20:42 - That gives the illusion of speed.
20:46 - There we go.
20:49 - We got this.
20:51 We've got the key to beat, baby.
20:53 Just gotta not spin out.
20:55 (engine revving)
20:58 - Yeah!
21:09 - I ran a clean 45 second lap.
21:14 Thriver went 56 seconds in the Maserati.
21:19 Our gutless rear engine mini truck
21:22 crushed the Kia on the autocross.
21:24 - It's quick, man.
21:25 - Well, that thing grew up.
21:25 I don't know why, but all of a sudden that grew up.
21:28 - Must've been all that love we gave it
21:29 over the last six months.
21:30 - You know what?
21:31 We need to go muscle truck next
21:32 so we can go truck to truck.
21:34 Another fan favorite, the muscle truck.
21:36 Yep, this thing is my own 1974 Chevy pickup
21:40 stuffed with an all aluminum LS6.
21:43 What makes this truck a riot is that it has
21:45 513 gears in the back and a spool,
21:47 which makes for killer acceleration,
21:49 wicked noise, radical burnouts,
21:52 and really horrible handling.
21:54 Three, two, one.
21:57 (engine revving)
21:59 (upbeat music)
22:02 - Pretty close, pretty close, pretty close.
22:23 That had style, that had big style.
22:29 Yep, 47.71.
22:32 Let's knock off the 0.71 for style.
22:34 - What was it, 47.71?
22:35 - No, give him a 47 even.
22:37 So my turn?
22:38 - Yeah, have fun.
22:39 This thing's epic.
22:41 Two, one.
22:41 (engine revving)
22:45 (upbeat music)
22:49 (engine revving)
22:52 - Oh, there you go, there you go.
23:03 Keep going.
23:04 (upbeat music)
23:07 What do they do at the end?
23:14 Not in the box, back up dude.
23:18 (laughing)
23:20 There we go.
23:22 - You know what, it's totally filled up.
23:24 It's starting to become one of the
23:27 above average days at work.
23:29 The muscle truck performed exactly as expected,
23:32 which means horribly.
23:34 And you know what?
23:35 It still beat the Kia.
23:37 - Love my job.
23:39 I love everybody right now.
23:41 - I'm kind of loving your job too.
23:42 - This doesn't suck.
23:45 - Does not suck.
23:46 (upbeat music)
23:48 - The Dragwar is a 1974 Jaguar XJ12.
23:53 We put a brand new motor in it,
23:54 a new transmission, fresh tires,
23:56 and this thing now rips.
23:58 (engine revving)
24:00 We basically threw more money than we should have
24:02 at this piece of crap.
24:03 - Oh, these hoosiers, look up.
24:06 - Is the Dragwar gonna beat the Kia?
24:08 - All day.
24:09 - Yeah.
24:10 - Yeah?
24:11 - Yeah.
24:12 - With me driving it or you?
24:13 - Both of us.
24:13 - Okay, I'm ready.
24:14 - Three, two, one.
24:16 (engine revving)
24:19 - The Dragwar is really a fine European touring sports car,
24:24 augmented by American horsepower.
24:27 Truly tea and crumpets covered in Jack Daniels sauce
24:31 with a kick of Tabasco.
24:33 - Solid, another win.
24:35 - Another win?
24:36 How much?
24:37 - 47.25.
24:39 - One.
24:39 (engine revving)
24:42 - The Dragwar is so luxurious,
24:45 you almost forget you're on a racetrack
24:46 when you're driving it.
24:47 - Did I look speedier than that?
24:48 Or is that just kinda how it is?
24:49 - Yeah, you looked a lot.
24:50 - Not only does it go fast in a straight line,
24:51 but it's okay around corners.
24:54 Best of all, we're doing well.
24:55 We now have three vehicles that have kicked the Kia's butt
24:58 around the road course.
24:59 - Oh shit.
25:00 (laughing)
25:01 - She's solid, man.
25:02 - This is really one of our better cars.
25:04 - James Bond would huck this, for sure.
25:06 - Yeah.
25:07 (engine revving)
25:11 - What the fuck?
25:13 - We've got a lot of experience at the wheel of the Dragwar,
25:18 so kind of familiar with how it's gonna perform here.
25:21 I honestly didn't know if it was gonna beat the Kia,
25:23 but the thing is, it just has so much stones.
25:28 This thing hauls in a straight line,
25:30 you sort of put the thing around the corners,
25:31 and in the end, you back it into the finish line
25:34 and beat a Kia once again.
25:37 - So what's next?
25:39 - Well, we're down to Nascarlo, Vetcart, or maintenance?
25:43 - We need to go luxury versus luxury.
25:45 - Yeah.
25:46 - Can the maintenance outperform the Dragwar?
25:49 - This is the General Maintenance,
25:51 the nicest car in the fleet,
25:52 because we didn't build it, Dodge did.
25:55 This is a bone stock 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.
26:00 This is the very same Charger
26:02 that we thrashed on in episode 38.
26:04 We were incentivized to retain ownership
26:08 of this particular car,
26:09 and so we had it painted up to look just like
26:11 our '68 Charger, the General Mayhem.
26:14 - Yeah, I don't know how good this is gonna go.
26:17 No traction control, over 700 horsepower,
26:19 a little bit of gravel out there.
26:21 Is that enough excuses?
26:22 - Is the AC on?
26:23 (engine revving)
26:26 - To keep things fair,
26:29 we turned off all of the electronic nannies.
26:32 No stability control, no traction control,
26:35 nothing that would give the General Maintenance
26:37 an edge over anything else here today.
26:39 Finally, I get to drive this thing with fresh tires.
26:44 The last time I drove this thing
26:46 for the Roadkill Nation event,
26:48 we ran it purposely on bald tires,
26:50 and it was not pretty.
26:52 Winning, 44.80, best time of the day.
27:02 Awesome car, love that car.
27:04 What, the strangest thing, around the Roadkill shop,
27:07 whenever somebody needs a ride home,
27:10 do they pick up the keys to the Dragoire,
27:12 the muscle truck?
27:12 No, they grab the General Maintenance.
27:15 Why?
27:16 Because this is the cushiest, most plush vehicle we have.
27:20 The General Maintenance is fast.
27:25 It looks fast, it feels fast, it drives fast,
27:28 but the thing is, it's a brand new car.
27:31 It really puts us more into the motor trend
27:33 part of our soul.
27:34 Where we're going around the autocross
27:36 analyzing the fine tuning of the front suspension
27:39 and the feel and feedback through the steering wheel.
27:42 Nice park job.
27:44 It's a fine automobile.
27:45 He got serious.
27:46 Yeah, he did.
27:48 (laughing)
27:49 Woo-hoo!
27:51 Nice.
27:51 Oh, and yeah, it beat the Kia,
27:53 'cause could you imagine what would happen
27:55 to our Dodge sponsorship if it didn't?
27:57 Hey, I ran, let me ask you something, come here.
28:01 What was my time in the muscle truck?
28:04 Hold on, I'll tell you in a second.
28:05 What was his time in the muscle truck?
28:10 What was his time in the muscle truck?
28:11 Yeah.
28:13 Did we lose the results again?
28:14 There was a 45 flat.
28:18 There's no amount of zip ties and duct tape
28:20 that can solve the fact that we lost our lap times again.
28:25 We blame lucky, everything's fine, let's move on.
28:28 I feel like we need to trash it up a little bit.
28:30 Ooh, the Nascarlo.
28:32 This here is a full-on race car.
28:35 It's a local dirt oval track chassis,
28:38 and we took a 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo,
28:41 shortened it up, slid the roof back,
28:44 made it look really funky,
28:45 and draped the body over the chassis.
28:48 We waited four years to slap a new body on Nascarlo
28:52 so we could drive it on the street,
28:53 and it took four hours before we totaled it.
28:56 Or rather, Freiburger totaled it.
28:58 Well, we all know what happened last time I drove this car.
29:01 The real miracle is Finnegan
29:03 is allowing me to drive it first.
29:05 I may never get to drive this car.
29:08 Three, two, go.
29:09 (engine revving)
29:13 (upbeat music)
29:19 (engine revving)
29:22 Jesus, crushed it.
29:44 You crushed it.
29:48 - Really? - 40.
29:49 - 40? - Yeah.
29:50 - Can I drive? - Yeah.
29:52 - And we're good.
29:54 But I respect the fact that Freiburger
29:56 didn't just run it into a pole.
29:57 (engine revving)
30:00 (man yelling)
30:02 That's been happening to me all day.
30:06 The honest to God truth is,
30:07 I've never driven Nascarlo fast.
30:09 I got to put it around on the highway for a few hours,
30:12 and I was fired up to drive this thing.
30:14 Oh, hit a cone.
30:15 But good God, I could not turn a lap in this car.
30:18 It understeers like you would not believe.
30:20 It pushes in every corner.
30:22 And I don't know what Freiburger did,
30:24 but he whooped my ass behind the wheel of Nascarlo.
30:26 - What, are you scared?
30:31 - That could have gone better.
30:32 - Yeah.
30:32 - It's light, it's fast.
30:37 The clutchless four-speed dominated
30:40 anything that we've run yet today.
30:42 Dirt track tires on pavement because roadkill.
30:45 (laughing)
30:48 You probably don't know this,
30:49 but the Vettkart holds the distinction
30:51 of being the only roadkill car
30:53 that has ever prompted somebody
30:54 to threaten us with a pipe bomb.
30:57 That's right.
30:58 This thing started out as a mint 1984 Chevrolet C4 Corvette
31:03 that we stripped and cut and sliced and diced and gutted
31:07 until it became what you see here.
31:09 And that tends to piss off Corvette owners.
31:11 All right, this is it.
31:14 Last chance for me to once again whoop up on the Kia.
31:18 The Vettkart should do the job.
31:20 Not a bad outing here for the guys at roadkill.
31:23 And lucky.
31:24 It all comes down to this.
31:26 Three, two, one.
31:27 (engine revving)
31:30 (laughing)
31:35 A lot of speed through the corners.
31:44 Oh, this thing's awesome.
31:46 I forgot how awesome it was.
31:49 Stop.
32:04 (laughing)
32:09 Woo!
32:13 Oh, I wasted some time there, but this is a bad mofo.
32:17 How was it?
32:18 - No, it's three tenths of a second faster than that Scarlo.
32:21 - Really?
32:22 - Track record, 40.4.
32:24 - God, I gave some up.
32:25 There's more there.
32:26 Especially the whole shot was not good.
32:29 - So now my challenge for the end of the day
32:31 is to outrun Finnegan in this to hold the daily best time.
32:34 And honestly, I don't know if I'm gonna do it.
32:36 - I think Dave can do this.
32:37 - I hope I don't screw this up.
32:39 - You ready?
32:40 Three, two.
32:41 (engine revving)
32:44 - Oh, nice.
32:47 Oh yeah, he got the start down.
32:49 (engine revving)
32:51 (rock music)
32:54 (engine revving)
32:57 - Oh, that was sweet.
33:20 - Nice.
33:21 - That was nice.
33:22 (engine revving)
33:25 (laughing)
33:31 - Oh, you're gonna be so disappointed.
33:33 (laughing)
33:34 (engine revving)
33:37 - Victory donuts.
33:42 - Victory donuts.
33:43 - Give me the number.
33:46 - Air high five, my friend.
33:47 38.83.
33:49 - 38.83!
33:51 - Nice.
33:51 - Big time.
33:52 - Rock and roll.
33:53 Okay, best day at work ever.
33:55 - No, no, we're not done.
33:57 - Why?
33:57 - Burnouts for distance.
33:58 - We need to do burnouts for distance.
34:00 You guys are just work, work, work around here.
34:02 (laughing)
34:04 After a long day of responsible scientific analysis,
34:07 time to wrap up the day with something
34:09 we're actually good at, burnouts for distance.
34:13 - Rest in peace, rubber.
34:15 (engine revving)
34:17 - Man, when you sit back on a glorious evening
34:21 of burnout smoke clouding the sky, rubber in your lungs,
34:24 you can't help but look back at 50 episodes
34:28 of what has happened here at Roadkill.
34:30 - If you're gonna wreck, wreck something expensive.
34:33 - Finnegan and I were a couple of guys
34:35 working on Hot Rod Magazine
34:36 and just started doing videos of our road trips.
34:38 And next thing you know, millions upon millions of views.
34:43 (engine revving)
34:46 - How many plies is that tire?
34:49 - There's two on the ground and one on the tire.
34:51 - Gotcha.
34:52 - We've had a lot of fun.
34:54 We've done a lot of things that normal humans
34:56 should not be doing with automobiles.
34:58 But you know what?
34:59 We've got way more shenanigans and even crazier ideas
35:02 and we're gonna keep going.
35:04 (engine revving)
35:06 - Yeah!
35:08 - He was driving that thing.
35:10 (dramatic music)
35:12 I lifted out of fear.
35:17 We really gotta thank all of the fans
35:20 who have helped us do this for a living
35:22 because our lives are ludicrous.
35:25 (engine revving)
35:27 And we're not stopping anytime soon.
35:33 (engine revving)
35:36 (laughing)
35:43 I think we won, baby.
35:44 (laughing)
35:47 Wow!
35:48 Ooh, not bad.
35:55 That's a drag.
35:56 Uh-oh.
35:57 - It's so gutless.
35:59 - It can't do it.
36:00 - It won't drag the wheel.
36:01 - It's downhill.
36:01 (laughing)
36:03 - Hey, Lucky, do you wanna come with us this weekend
36:05 for the 50th episode and drive on Roadkill?
36:09 - Hell yeah!
36:10 This is what I get, dude?
36:14 - Good work.
36:15 - Yeah.
36:15 - Let's get a beer.
36:16 - Yeah.
36:17 - Want the parts we used to build these cars?
36:19 Visit jegs.com/roadkill.
36:21 Why don't they build these into welding helmets?
36:27 That's what I want.
36:28 - Let's tape 'em.
36:29 Here.
36:30 - All right.
36:31 It actually looks like they're on there.
36:34 - They are.
36:35 - I feel like I could work right now.
36:36 - That's not bad.
36:37 I think we can, today's Monday.
36:38 We can accomplish this by Wednesday.
36:40 - What do you wanna start with?
36:42 - Lunch.
36:43 (laughing)
36:45 - Well, allegedly, I may have grazed Mr. Fryburger
36:48 with a sledgehammer.
36:50 It's only a two pound sledgehammer,
36:51 and it was allegedly me.
36:53 - For some reason now, it's like I got a tendon
36:55 or something that's going wrong.
36:56 - Tendon?
36:57 - Yeah.
36:58 - Do you even have tendons in this part of your body?
37:00 I don't even know.
37:01 Well, we're not taking any chances.
37:03 - Okay, I think we're good.
37:05 Oh, nobody can say we sold out this time.
37:07 I know that's true!
37:08 - Sorry, guys.
37:09 - They still sponsor us.
37:11 - Maybe not after this.
37:13 (upbeat music)
37:15 (upbeat music)
37:18 (upbeat music)
37:21 (upbeat music)
37:24 (upbeat music)
37:26 (upbeat music)
37:29 (upbeat music)
