Mario Cristobal announced on Monday morning that All-American safety Kam Kinchens is ready to make his return from injury on Saturday against Georgia Tech.
Transcript
00:00 This morning on his weekly appearance on the Joe Rose show on WQAM in Miami, head coach
00:06 Mario Cristobal confirmed all American safety Cam Kinshens.
00:12 He's back.
00:14 Cam is 100% ready to play on Saturday against Georgia Tech.
00:19 This is something that we talked about at the end of last week.
00:22 It was my strong suspicion that Cam would be back.
00:25 I didn't think it was a coincidence that they were using Kinshens in all the promotional
00:29 materials for the Miami Knights uniforms, the black and neon alternate jerseys they're
00:35 going to wear this weekend.
00:37 And it was officially confirmed by coach today.
00:40 Remember back at the Texas A&M game, very end of that game was when Kinshens suffered
00:44 that scary collision, passed all of his tests at the hospital.
00:49 Everything is okay.
00:50 They held him out for the last couple of weeks, primarily out of an abundance of caution,
00:54 which is great.
00:55 But Kinshens is healthy and number five is ready to go again this week.
01:00 So not only are the hurricanes getting the best player on the team back from injury this
01:06 week, who also happens to be the quarterback of their defense.
01:11 Cam Kinshens is also the guy that intercepted Georgia Tech three times last year.
01:17 I know it was a different Georgia Tech quarterback last year, but I'm pretty sure Brent Key and
01:24 you know, the players who were on the team last year still have nightmares about what
01:28 Cam did.
01:29 He had a pick six included in that.
01:31 What Cam Kinshens did against Georgia Tech last year, he, yeah, he was fantastic.
01:36 Okay.
01:37 And you know, something, this is going to make us watch for this week because Kinshens
01:42 is he's so important to this football team.
01:46 We've been critical over the past couple of games about Miami's past coverage being a
01:51 little sloppy, a little soft at times.
01:53 But now that Miami's getting Cam back, we're going to get a better idea of who Miami truly
01:59 is in that defensive backfield.
02:01 And we're going to say a lot of things about Georgia Tech and what happened to them this
02:04 past week, but they've had a prolific passing offense so far.
02:09 Like Georgia Tech has been able to complete passes down the field, put up big time passing
02:13 stats.
02:15 That's been one area of Miami's defense where, you know, it's not been maybe as good as the
02:19 rushing defense, for example, which is number one in the country, but with Cam back, we're
02:24 going to get a better idea of who Miami truly is in the defensive backfield.
