00:00 Hello and welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Luke Owen and this is wrestling news.
00:12 As Pete Quinnell dropped in yesterday's breaking news video because that man is excellent
00:16 at his job, Jade Cargill has officially signed with WWE, choosing them over re-signing with
00:23 All Elite Wrestling.
00:25 The news was first reported by ESPN, but really, Fightful Select broke this news two weeks
00:30 ago.
00:31 We'll go into more details of why she chose WWE over AEW shortly, but there are some big
00:36 questions coming out of the news.
00:38 Will she keep her Jade Cargill name?
00:40 Will she be heading to NXT before the main roster?
00:43 Just how much money did WWE sign her for?
00:46 But perhaps the bigger question is, who gets the Cody Beta now?
00:50 When Cody Rose left AEW in 2022, he revealed that he had bestowed the rights to his Cody
00:55 Beta entrance to Jade Cargill as she was one of his big pet projects while he was in All
01:00 Elite Wrestling.
01:01 But now that Jade is also gone and really didn't use the Cody Beta that much, it means
01:06 it's once again up for grabs.
01:08 And one AEW star has already laid claim to it, Nyla Rose!
01:13 Always shoot your shot, Nyla Rose.
01:14 I like your hustle.
01:16 In all seriousness though, this is big news.
01:19 The Jade thing, not the Cody Beta thing.
01:21 AEW put a lot of stock, a lot of time, a lot of money into Jade Cargill.
01:25 She's only been wrestling for two years, but both of those two years have been in AEW.
01:31 They put her on an epic winning streak, designed a whole new belt for her to win, and had her
01:36 training in the ring with Bryan Danielson to improve her game.
01:41 Cargill's winning streak came to an end at Double or Nothing when Chris Statlander
01:44 made her return to AEW and beat Cargill moments after she defended the TBS Championship against
01:50 Taya Valkyrie.
01:51 Cargill wasn't seen on TV until a few weeks ago when she made her return on Collision
01:55 to save Statlander from a two-on-one beatdown, and just a few days later it was announced
01:59 that the Cargill/Statlander rematch wouldn't be happening on PPV, wouldn't be happening
02:03 at Collision, wouldn't be happening at Grand Slam, but on a pre-taped episode of Rampage.
02:09 Statlander won that match, and it would be Cargill's last with the company.
02:13 Just one week before her Collision return, Cargill did an interview with Women's Wrestling
02:17 Talk where she said in relation to AEW, "there's no place I'd want to be".
02:23 And yet just one week later, following the taping of her Rampage match, Fightful Select
02:27 reported that Jade Cargill was finishing up with All Elite Wrestling and would be heading
02:31 to WWE.
02:33 So why has she signed with WWE?
02:37 Well according to Cargill herself, it was an easy decision.
02:40 She told The Ringer, "I want to create a legacy.
02:43 I want to be in the Hall of Fame.
02:44 I want to wrestle with the best women in the world.
02:47 There is no grander stage than this stage.
02:50 The opportunities are endless with this company.
02:53 It was a no-brainer.
02:54 I didn't have any second thoughts about it at all.
02:56 It was an easy choice.
02:58 It wasn't easy, but it was easy."
03:00 She also promoted that she is the first signing under the TKO umbrella, and she mentioned
03:05 management as part of the reason she joined WWE, noting specifically Triple H, Bruce Prichard,
03:11 Nick Khan and Dan Van Trel, saying, "You can't get better than that."
03:15 Uh, gee, sorry Vince?
03:18 The ESPN article that announced the news made the connection between Cargill and Cody Rhodes,
03:23 who was part of her first ever match when she teamed with Shaquille O'Neal to take
03:26 on Rhodes and Red Velvet.
03:28 She told The Ringer that Rhodes was a big part in her choice to join WWE, saying, "I've
03:34 seen what the business did for him.
03:35 I've seen him be the stellar athlete that he is.
03:39 I didn't see any different for myself.
03:41 He was one of the guys that led me to a great decision."
03:45 We've talked a lot over the last year or so on the WrestleTalk Podcast about the presentation
03:50 of Cody Rhodes in WWE as being a huge advertisement to talent signed to the competition.
03:57 If you come here, we can give you all of this.
04:01 And that is finally paying off with the signing of Cargill.
04:04 Make no mistake about it, this is a big signing for WWE, and they are treating it as such.
04:11 Because it wasn't just the ESPN article, WWE's PR team sent out press releases to
04:17 all of the major outlets letting them know about the signing, and Triple H put out a
04:21 tweet welcoming Cargill to the company.
04:24 WWE don't often go to these lengths.
04:28 They are treating this like a huge free agent signing, which is exactly what it is.
04:33 Several main roster names including Adam Pearce, Bayley and Grayson Waller have welcomed Cargill
04:38 into WWE, and USA Network might have dropped a huge hint that she's heading straight
04:43 to Monday Night Raw, but that is far from confirmation that she's bypassing NXT to
04:48 go to the main roster.
04:50 Cargill herself was cagey about where she'll end up when asked about that on the ringer,
04:54 but the amount of money likely being spent on her might suggest that even if she does
04:58 go to NXT, she might not be there for very long.
05:02 WWE's push of Cargill continued on social media as they shared a video of her surviving
05:06 the NXT parking lot to train at the Performance Center.
05:09 On the media call for this weekend's WrestleDream, Tony Khan praised Cargill's time in AEW
05:14 and added, "She had a great run with us and has a great career in front of her.
05:19 Wishing her nothing but the best for the future."
05:22 Cargill was again very praising of AEW in media interviews, noting specifically that
05:26 she had been training in ring with Daniel Bryan.
05:30 Already got you using his WWE name, huh?
05:34 But according to Bill Apter of Sportskeeda, there could be more names joining Jade and
05:39 Cody in jumping ship to WWE, saying, "I understand there might be another main roster
05:46 AEW guy who's also looking to come to WWE."
05:50 Speculation on this will likely run wild, especially following Ricky Starks being the
05:54 first to send out his congratulations tweet to Jade following the announcement of her
05:58 signing.
05:59 But forget all that, the biggest news to come from this signing is

06:02 CM PUNK LIKE THE INSTAGRAM POST!
06:04 SOUND THE ALARM!
06:05 I'M GETTING WORD THAT OLI DAVIS IS CANCELING HIS HOLIDAY AND HEADING HOME RIGHT NOW!
06:13 CM PUNK TO WWE!
06:15 RETURN CONFIRMED!
06:16 IT'S HAPPENING EVERYONE!
06:18 Sticking with AEW now, and on Wrestling Observer Radio yesterday, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer
06:22 were asked about the lack of TV time for Serena Deeb, who hasn't wrestled for All Elite
06:27 Wrestling since October last year on an episode of Dark.
06:31 Alvarez noted, "Something happened.
06:34 There was some sort of heat over something.
06:36 Whatever it was, she's not being used."
06:38 Meltzer added, "I haven't even heard them even hint about her name or anything."
06:45 This was blown off on social media as "random speculation" or "vague reporting" by
06:50 Bryan and Dave, but Sean Ross Sapp dived into this story a bit more on Fightful Select and
06:55 revealed there is some truth behind Bryan and Dave's comments.
07:00 According to Fightful Select, Deeb has been telling people that she's been dealing with
07:03 a serious injury that has kept her off TV, but AEW sources are saying it was actually
07:08 a disagreement with management that landed her with major heat.
07:13 Sean Ross Sapp writes, "We're told that Deeb was very vocal about her use on AEW TV
07:19 and especially the time that she was given."
07:22 Those familiar with the situation claimed that it entered the area of disrespect as
07:27 she'd accused Tony Khan and AEW management of cutting the time for her matches without
07:31 telling her until they got to the ring.
07:34 The AEW side counters Deeb's claims, saying that her times weren't being cut.
07:39 SRS explains that it's common practice for agents and producers to not show wrestlers
07:43 their allotted times until close to the show, so they don't get upset if times are cut.
07:48 Whatever the case, it led to a situation where she had heat according to Fightful Select.
07:54 Enough heat to keep her off TV for nearly a full calendar year?
07:58 Better check in with Hell in Temperature to see just how much heat Serena Deeb actually
08:03 has.
08:04 "It's hot out there.
08:05 It's a seven today."
08:07 Crikey, if she's got that much heat, maybe she can leave AEW when her contract expires
08:12 and go somewhere else like, I don't know, New Japan.
08:15 Oh, there's rumours that Tony Khan might be buying New Japan.
08:18 Awkward.
08:20 This weekend AEW are putting on their WrestleDream PPV, a show designed to honour the legacy
08:25 of Antonio Inoki who passed away last year.
08:28 Tony Khan has been promoting this show as the start of a new era of All Elite Wrestling,
08:34 which has sparked a lot of speculation of what that could mean.
08:38 And because this is sort of a co-pro with New Japan - Ospreay and Zack Sabre Jr. are
08:44 both on the show and it's an Inoki tribute show - so chief among those rumours is that
08:48 Tony Khan is going to announce that he has purchased New Japan Pro Wrestling.
08:54 The speculation has run so much that someone asked Tony Khan about this on the WrestleDream
08:58 media call, to which he replied, "I'm a little surprised at how that speculation
09:02 picked up and the, specifically, the transactional nature of it.
09:06 Overall, I've really enjoyed working with New Japan since nearly two years.
09:10 I want to continue that partnership for a very long time and right now we have something
09:15 very good going.
09:16 I'm a little surprised by the speculation.
09:18 I don't know where it came from."
09:21 As several people have noted, and you might be able to note from me reading that out,
09:25 there was no outright denial of that story in that reply.
09:30 And just before we get into the NXT One Minute One Take, AEW's Mark Henry noted on Busted
09:34 Open Radio that the recently released Dolph Ziggler is top of the list of new signings
09:39 for the company.
09:40 So stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com for any further update on that story.
09:44 But now it's time for NXT One Minute One Take, everyone's favourite time of the week.
09:49 I actually forgot to do it on Monday with the Collision Review, so sorry about that.
09:54 I am often bad at my job.
09:57 So I've got my one minute on the clock.
10:00 British wrestling legend Kendo Nagasaki to help me with this.
10:04 Right, okay, come on.
10:06 3, 2, 1, let's go.
10:08 Butch beat Joe Goff, Joe Coffey, in the Global Heritage International Tournament finals and
10:13 will now challenge Noam Dar at No Mercy.
10:15 Tony D'Angelo and Snack did a restaurant skit with Humberto Carrillo and Angel Garza.
10:19 The Creedz also joined as did OTM and a Fatal 4-Way was made for the tag titles at No Mercy.
10:24 Rick Williams beat Joe Gacy, who then said he wants a title of his own.
10:28 More on that in a bit.
10:29 Baron Corbin beat Josh Briggs in a short match and we got a video package hyping Becky Lynch
10:34 vs. Tiffany Strand for the weekend.
10:36 OTM beat Hank Waller and Tank Ledger due to interference from Screebs.
10:40 And Eddie Thought beat Dijak in a strap match.
10:42 Dijak beat him up after the match, so this feud must continue.
10:47 Blair Davenport revealed that she attacked Gigi Dolan.
10:49 Their match is no longer happening.
10:51 And Thea Hale beat Danny Palmer in another short match.
10:53 They teased they might split up.
10:55 Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes, but sort of put them back on the same page later.
10:58 And Trick then beat Dragon Lee, Tyler Bate and Axiom to win a shot against Dom Dom at
11:02 Nom Nom Mercy.
11:03 Dragon Lee was later announced as the special guest referee of the match.
11:06 There was a contract signing between Elias Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes, which was rather
11:09 good.
11:10 I've already run out of time.
11:11 And Brom Breaker and Baron Corbin had a big brawl to close out the show, which saw them
11:14 Godzilla themselves through a cardboard wall into Shawn Michaels' office.
11:19 Dang.
11:20 I thought I was doing quite well there.
11:25 Rubbish.
11:26 Anyway, we are live right now over on partsFUNknown for the Wednesday Night War as Laurie Blake
11:31 and Dan Layton battle it out on My GM mode on WWE 2K23.
11:36 Literally live right now.
11:38 Unless of course you're watching this after the live broadcast has ended, which means
11:41 instead you should just watch the replay while you're on the toilet.
11:44 Otherwise we're live right now.
11:45 Go and click the link.
11:46 PartsFUNknown, we're live right now.
11:47 We're live right now.
11:48 I know.
11:49 I know.
11:50 I know.
11:51 Sorry.
11:52 Yeah, I also think.
11:53 I also think they should go and watch it.
11:56 (upbeat music)
