00:00 Hello and welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Luke Owen and this is wrestling news.
00:11 Last Thursday saw over 20 names fired from WWE as part of the Endeavor merger that has
00:16 created new company TKO and this render of a man who really wants pictures of that Spider-Man.
00:22 Names released included the likes of Mustafa Ali, Aaliyah, Dolph Ziggler, Shanky and more.
00:27 So what's next for these released wrestlers?
00:30 Well all of the main roster talent - which would still include Ali and Dana Brooke - have
00:34 90 day non-compete clauses, which means they won't be making debuts for anyone like AEW,
00:40 Impact, Rev Pro or the like until late December at the earliest.
00:44 Top Dollar of Hit Row tweeted that he's taking bookings for January of next year.
00:48 Now back in my day, when someone was fired from WWE they did a two hour shoot interview
00:54 from a hotel room with a couple of bottles of red wine and a crappy mini DV camera and
00:58 bad audio.
00:59 Nowadays, former WWE talent either start their own, or guest on someone else's podcast
01:04 like Talk is Jericho where they can talk about their final few weeks in the company in between
01:09 Y2J advertising snazzy socks and talking about his band's latest crap single.
01:13 Or you could start a YouTube channel and create some funny Fightful article headlines - like
01:18 Maven for example - who revealed by his YouTube channel that the real reason wrestlers wear
01:23 underwear underneath their trunks is because "you don't want your meat and two veg rattling
01:29 around during a match".
01:30 There's a sense of security that you need when you're jumping around flying through
01:34 the air.
01:35 The last thing you want is rattling around of the undercarriage.
01:38 I would always wear a thong.
01:39 Why would I wear a thong?
01:41 Well because I want it as little amount of material underneath my trunks.
01:45 So there you have it folks, WrestleTalk News once again bringing you the news that matters
01:49 the most in this crazy world of pro wrestling.
01:52 One man who might have a few things to say about his release on the other hand is Rick
01:56 Boogs - at least according to the replies he's left on his most recent YouTube channel.
02:00 Boogs made his on-screen debut for WWE in 2019 when he was in NXT under the name Eric
02:05 Bugenhagen before moving to Smackdown in 2021 as Shinsuke Nakamura's hype man.
02:10 An injury during his tag match at WrestleMania 38 put him on the shelf, and he returned to
02:14 WWE in 2023 before being drafted to Smackdown in April.
02:18 There he… didn't do a lot.
02:21 His last televised Smackdown match was in May, though he was part of the Summerslam
02:24 Battle Royal.
02:25 Boogs was part of last Thursday's releases, and Dave Meltzer noted that Boogs' lack
02:28 of screen time was one of the reasons he - and several others - got their pink slips.
02:33 Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, "The key to the releases were talent making
02:37 main roster money but not being used on the main roster and with the idea that they were
02:41 not going to be used in the future."
02:43 Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select noted that Aaliyah, for example, had not been factored
02:48 into WWE's creative plans for over a year.
02:52 When SRS would ask about her not being used on TV, he would be told that she wasn't
02:56 injured, she just wasn't considered for anything.
02:58 Mustafa Ali and Dana Brooke reportedly were among the releases because they were making
03:02 main roster money down in NXT with no plans on ever bringing them back to the main roster.
03:08 Shanky is another name in the "creative has nothing for you" group, with SRS reporting
03:12 that he was another name that was never brought up in a creative sense once Triple H took
03:17 over creative.
03:19 When the releases were happening, one top talent told SRS most of the list of releases
03:23 barely had a chance considering they weren't booked and called it a circle that couldn't
03:28 be escaped.
03:29 And things changing once Triple H took over is being cited as the reason Boogs was released
03:34 by the man himself.
03:36 Boogs has a YouTube channel designed for his weightlifting and comedy, and in his most
03:40 recent video noted that his release was a "backstage political power play" - promising
03:45 that he will one day speak friendly about the subject, saying it will be juicy and he'll
03:49 go into all of the nitty gritty details.
03:53 Some of those details can be found in the replies in the comments section where he tells
03:56 one viewer, "I can say with 100% certainty, the removal of Vince McMahon killed my career."
04:03 The comment he was replying to posits the idea that WWE is removing "toxic masculinity"
04:08 from their shows, and one person goes as far to say that Boogs' physique and size held
04:14 him down, or as they put it, WWE are taking the testosterone out of WWE.
04:19 Boogs replied to this saying, "I can't wait to give my opinion cuz it sounds like
04:23 we're totally on the same page."
04:24 Fans have theorised since Vince's removal from creative last year that there were Vince
04:29 guys and Triple H guys.
04:31 It doesn't take a scientist to notice that once Triple H took over booking, guys like
04:34 Tommaso Ciampa ended up back on TV just like their NXT characters.
04:39 Games like The Way were put back together, and there are still persistent rumours that
04:43 DIY will make their main roster debut once Johnny Gargano returns to TV.
04:48 Crikey, all of the examples I just gave there were very Johnny and Ciampa focused.
04:54 But there are others, like JD McDonough.
04:56 JD was brought to the main roster and put into a storyline with Judgment Day, but then
04:59 Vince came back into the creative process a few months ago and that story wasn't featured
05:05 on TV anymore.
05:06 The week that Vince was off again due to his surgery, the story resumed.
05:10 You could look at that as a coincidence, but a tinfoil hat fan might tell you otherwise.
05:15 Boogs backs up the idea of Triple H not pushing Vince guys in another comment, with one fan
05:20 noting that he should be the ideal WWE Superstar because he's a larger than life character.
05:26 To which Boogs replied, "Pretty much everyone on the corporate side of the company agreed.
05:31 Which is why I was always the third party guy doing commercials for Old Spice, Snickers,
05:36 Mike's Heart, Lemonade and Toyota.
05:38 However, one person clearly has some weird grudge against me."
05:43 This has led several fans online to point the finger of blame on that one person being
05:47 Triple H.
05:48 What do you think of Rick Boogs' comments?
05:50 Let me know in the comments down below.
05:52 But changing gears slightly, it's time to head over to our own Bryan Children, who's
05:56 returned to the WrestleTalk News and has provided his first bit of wrestling commentary on this
06:02 NGW match.
06:04 Oh, and a big kick there.
06:06 Lovely stuff.
06:07 Oh, ducks underneath.
06:08 Flippity do da.
06:09 Flippity day.
06:10 Oh, we love to see it.
06:11 Oh, it's beautiful stuff.
06:12 He's taking a breath.
06:13 He's pointing at his ear.
06:14 But that's not going to be helpful.
06:15 Oh, a reversal.
06:16 A lovely little cuddle.
06:17 Another little cuddle.
06:18 A third cuddle.
06:19 It's going to be a third cuddle supreme.
06:20 Can he?
06:21 Oh, a roly poly.
06:22 Haven't seen them since primary school.
06:23 And a kick in the head.
06:24 That's what you call a kick in the head.
06:25 Oh, and a kick in the head.
06:26 Oh, and a kick in the head.
06:27 That's what you call a kick in the head.
06:28 Oh, and a kick in the head.
06:29 Haven't seen them since primary school.
06:32 And a kick in the head.
06:34 That's what you get for trying to roly poly with the best.
06:37 And another kick to the head.
06:39 And he goes outside.
06:40 Absolutely beautiful stuff.
06:42 Oh, he's going up.
06:43 He's on the ropes.
06:44 Down he goes.
06:45 Oh, dear.
06:46 Sayonara.
06:47 Oh, big bosh.
06:48 Big bosh.
06:49 He's happy with that.
06:50 He's screaming.
06:51 He should have lightly tapped him on the back.
06:52 But oh, a kick to the head as well.
06:59 Those people love kicking each other in the head.
07:01 Why do they do it?
07:02 We don't know.
07:03 Flippity do da.
07:04 We love to see it.
07:07 Clutching his knee in victory.
07:10 Excellent work as always, Bryan.
07:11 I look forward to future installments.
07:13 That man literally can do it all.
07:16 Other WWE releases from last week have been using video platforms to share their stories,
07:20 with Marseille and Mansoor joining each other on Twitch to tell tales of their time in WWE,
07:26 dropping some fun nuggets of information along the way.
07:28 For example, Mace thought he was going to be fired after a spot with Braun Strowman
07:32 went wrong on an episode of Smackdown.
07:35 The idea was that Strowman would bowl through them while holding lunch boxes, and then he'd
07:39 open one of those lunch boxes and eat a sandwich - because this is a show written for children.
07:44 However, when Strowman barged into Mace, the lunch box flew into the crowd.
07:48 The decision was made on the fly for Braun to beat up Mansoor, while Mace tried to find
07:53 the sandwich.
07:54 Amazingly, Mace thought that management was going to think he went into business for himself
07:58 by throwing the lunch box and was worried that he was going to be fired.
08:01 But another interesting note that they revealed on a recent Twitch stream is that the character
08:05 of Maxine Dupree was created before anyone was even cast in the role.
08:11 Mansoor said, "They made a @MaxineDupree Twitter, which we thought was a role play.
08:14 They followed us and we got a text, 'Follow back the @MaxineDupree Twitter account.'"
08:19 Hilariously, LA Knight, who was still Max Dupree at that point, was worried that the
08:23 character would just be him in a dress.
08:26 The decision on who was going to play Maxine was left until the day before the character
08:31 debuted on TV, according to Mace and Mansoor, but they did reveal who it was going to be
08:37 until it was changed to the Maxine we know today.
08:40 We heard Maxine Dupree was going to be Tiffany Stratton.
08:44 We heard that was very close to happening until the last minute.
08:47 I think we can all agree that worked out better for all parties involved.
08:52 Well apart from Mace and Mansoor of course because they lost their jobs.
08:58 So sorry guys.
08:59 If you want to come on the WrestleTalk News, chat to us and plug your stuff, you're more
09:09 than welcome to.
09:10 But while some others have lost their jobs, someone new could be heading to WWE.
09:15 And it's not just Jade Cargill.
09:17 Fightful Select are reporting that Sami Callihan is finishing up with Impact Wrestling, with
09:21 his contract coming to an end in just under a week - the end of September to be exact.
09:26 Callihan has been praised by those in the industry as one of the most underutilised
09:31 guys working today, which is saying a lot when he's had a massive push in Impact Wrestling.
09:36 Sean Ross Sapp adds in his report that Impact are keen to keep hold of Callihan's services
09:41 and both sides are talking about a new deal.
09:44 He does however add that Callihan is free to speak and negotiate with other companies
09:48 like AEW and WWE.
09:51 And Mike Johnson of PWInsider is reporting that there is already interest in him from
09:55 multiple companies, not just as a wrestler but also as an agent and producer.
10:00 Johnson adds that while the relationship between Callihan and Impact is amicable, the belief
10:04 backstage at the last tapings is that he is now done with the promotion.
10:09 The producer and agent thing is leading a lot of people to assume that WWE has interest
10:14 in him.
10:15 They recently brought in Nick Haldis to be a producer and agent for the company, and
10:18 Robert Roode has also transitioned into that same role.
10:22 Callihan is a smart guy and that would be a great use of him, but I'd be sad if we
10:26 didn't get to see Sami have a great run in one of the two big promotions in North America.
10:31 The dude is awesome.
10:34 And lastly for now, NXT star Nikita Lyons has provided an update on her injury recovery,
10:39 posting on Instagram that she is now able to train in-ring again - which means she could
10:43 be back rather soon.
10:45 And she made this announcement by… twerking.
10:49 I'm not sure we can even show this video.
10:53 Is this going to get us demonetised?
10:54 Are we going to get in trouble for this?
10:57 I mean should we pixelate it?
10:59 Is that too much?
11:00 Is that censoring?
11:01 Should we pixelate?
11:02 Should we um… what's the word I'm looking for?
11:04 Soften it?
11:05 Can't say we can improve it.
11:06 Soften it maybe?
11:07 Yeah, let's try that.
11:08 Yeah, that's better.
11:09 Yeah, that's way better.
11:10 Yeah, I think that's a perfect video.
11:11 To illustrate Nikita Lyons' return from injury.
11:18 I can't see this clip being shared out of context on Twitter or Instagram at all.
11:25 So yeah, good work us.
11:27 That's all we've got time for on this edition of the WrestleTalk News.
11:30 Why not go and check out the latest episode of the Three Count with me and Chopper P.
11:34 Quinnell where we predict all of Fastlane in three words or less.
11:38 But because no matches have actually been announced for Fastlane yet, it's just us
11:42 making lots of silly jokes.
11:44 Can't control Raw.
11:45 Yeah, he can't.
11:47 I mean he probably can't control Smackdown either but Raw he seems to have real trouble
11:50 with.
11:51 Maybe wins sometimes?
