The Miami Hurricanes are in the top 3 finalists group for 5-Star defensive tackle Aydin Breland, along with Georgia and Oregon. Can the Canes win this recruiting battle?
Transcript
00:00 Aiden Breeland from modern day in California.
00:03 He last week narrowed down to his top three.
00:06 I don't believe he has an announcement date set just yet,
00:09 but his top three comes down to Miami, Georgia and Oregon.
00:14 And I think it's interesting to note, this is a player,
00:17 Mario Cristobal has been recruiting Aiden Breeland
00:20 since Breeland was in the seventh grade.
00:22 And I think the main reason why Oregon
00:25 is in Breeland's top three is because of Mario Cristobal
00:29 who started recruiting him out there in Oregon.
00:31 And Miami could really use a verbal from Aiden Breeland.
00:35 Where do you think things stand with his recruitment?
00:38 - Miami is right in the middle of it.
00:40 I've checked around with a couple of different people
00:43 around Oregon, et cetera.
00:44 Oregon is always, as you noted, gonna be right there.
00:48 I mean, it's pretty easy to figure out why.
00:51 I know that A&M was in it.
00:54 They appeared to not be.
00:55 Of course, these things can change.
00:57 Georgia, Miami are the teams to kind of watch as well.
01:00 I'm gonna be curious,
01:01 and I told somebody this the other day,
01:03 if he gets back to campus at any one of those places
01:08 for unofficials, that's a telling sign.
01:11 Can Miami get him back?
01:12 I mean, that's across the country.
01:13 It's a lot harder for him to get to Miami and Georgia
01:16 than it is to Oregon.
01:17 But that's gonna be the biggest key here.
01:19 He doesn't talk much with media and I'm being kind,
01:22 but at the same time, Miami's right there.
01:25 They've been on him forever.
01:26 And I keep giving Miami staff credit
01:28 for how hard they've recruited him and others.
01:31 This is another chance,
01:32 'cause it's not easy to get kids from LA to go to Miami.
01:35 That's a long way away.
01:36 Good job by Miami so far.
01:38 - Well, I'd love to know, like kind of on your big board,
01:40 Brian, how you rank five-star Aiden Breeland
01:43 compared to some of the other top defensive tackles.
01:46 Obviously, Miami missed out,
01:48 at least for the time being, on David Stone a few weeks ago.
01:51 I know they haven't stopped recruiting him.
01:53 Kamari and Franklin, same thing.
01:56 Justin Scott, who chose Ohio State.
01:58 How do you compare Breeland to some of these other
02:00 top five-star blue chippers at that position?
02:04 - Breeland is physically able to be a two-gap guy,
02:07 a one-gap guy, he can get up the field.
02:10 He plays at modern day, which means you've been coached.
02:14 There are guys on that staff
02:16 that could probably coach the college level
02:18 based on how they just whip everybody they play,
02:20 pretty much.
02:21 And I mean, he's been a guy everybody's known about
02:24 for a couple of years, at least.
02:26 He's an impact guy.
02:28 Like even at a program that has talent like Georgia
02:31 on the D-line, he would compete for playing time.
02:33 He's that talented.
02:35 So Miami would be getting a plug-and-play guy,
02:37 at least on the depth.
02:38 I'm not saying he's gonna walk in and start,
02:40 but we're talking about a guy that can play three-tack
02:42 or one-tack and be impactful.
02:44 And he can draw double teams.
02:45 He changes what teams have to do.
02:48 So this is the difference between winning big
02:51 and getting to playoff.
02:52 These are the kinds of guys.
02:54 So his recruitment is very, very important
02:56 to Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes.
