00:00 She has a very unique scent. She smells like a baby mixed with maple syrup.
00:04 Want kisses?
00:05 This is Todd from Arthur's Acres. This is Lily's story for GeoBeats.
00:09 Oh no, no.
00:11 We were called by a woman who bought a pregnant pig.
00:14 The pig had babies and Lily was born with a birth defect in her leg.
00:19 She was not keeping up with the other piglets and so we were contacted to help.
00:26 We have special needs animals and access to health care that can help an animal like Lily.
00:31 She was a ray of sunshine the minute she stepped foot on Arthur's Acres property.
00:36 She realized that she was home.
00:38 I don't think there was a transition into sanctuary life.
00:42 This is what she was meant for and she realized that within seconds.
00:45 You're a very good girl.
00:46 She'll stop you in her tracks. Her face, her expressions, her demeanor.
00:50 She is just a ridiculously adorable pig with an amazing personality that really captures your heart the minute you see her.
00:57 Are you swimming?
00:58 She is possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life.
01:03 You're ridiculous. You're ridiculous.
01:06 It's not even like she's trying. She just looks at you and you melt.
01:09 She smells like maple syrup. It's pretty awesome.
01:12 Lily, you ready to beat your friend Willow?
01:14 Unfortunately, when we got her, she was double the weight that she should have been.
01:18 We had to really take a serious look at her diet because an animal that doesn't have strong forelimbs really needs to stay as trimmed as absolutely possible.
01:27 Three legs doing the work of four legs. You need to keep as much pressure off those limbs as possible.
01:36 She was 24 pounds when she came here and she's lost eight pounds.
01:40 She's doing wonderful with her prosthetics. She'll bolt. She'll just start running and I'm like, "Stop, stop, stop."
01:46 We have 77, 78 acres. We don't have to want to try to find her prosthetic out there.
01:51 She goes five and a half hours every two weeks each way to get a new prosthetic because she's growing so fast.
01:58 Oh, inches off.
01:59 When she's not wearing her prosthetic, she's walking with three legs and does extremely well.
02:04 We have to really watch the good leg because we can't overwork that leg.
02:09 Okay, you can't, you can't, you can't. I can't hold you.
02:11 We don't know if she was going to be raised for me, but because of her disability, they didn't feel like they can raise her to whatever age they planned on raising her to.
02:20 So her disability saved her life. But she doesn't think she has a disability.
02:24 She's a little star in her own mind, holding her and hugging her. She's a little light in my life.
02:29 I know.
02:30 She's incredibly affectionate.
02:35 We find that when a baby is taken away from their mother, as long as there is a surrogate, they don't really skip a beat.
02:42 She looks for the maternal love and we're all here to give it to her.
02:46 Could I do some work?
02:47 You keep her close to your heart so she feels the heartbeat that she hears in the womb.
02:51 Love you.
