00:02 Keeping a pretty balanced routine.
00:07 I think this is, you know,
00:08 one of the things young people haven't learned
00:11 that what you eat, how much you sleep,
00:14 how you move affects your emotional and psychological state.
00:19 When we were going through the pandemic,
00:22 we all kept a pretty regular schedule.
00:26 We set our alarms, we woke up, we did a workout,
00:29 we tried to have dinner at a certain time,
00:31 meals at a certain time.
00:32 A certain amount of routine and predictability
00:36 can help keep your mood up in ways.
00:39 I don't know the, you know, chemical reasons for it,
00:43 but I find it that if I wallow in my depression,
00:48 I just get more depressed.
00:49 But if I get up, get out, change my clothes,
00:53 take a shower, fix my hair,
00:55 even if no one's gonna see it,
00:57 that practice and that routine often brings my spirit up.
01:02 And that's what I encourage in young people.
01:05 If you're feeling down,
01:06 think about how much sleep you're getting, you know?
01:09 It may be a direct correlation to the fact
01:11 that you're living off of three hours of sleep.
01:14 So why you feel tired and sad, you know?
01:16 Have you eaten a vegetable in the last month?
01:19 Small things like that actually matter.
01:26 Now that I'm 58 years old,
01:27 I have 58 years of understanding
01:30 that growth and possibility lie on the other side
01:35 of that initial emotion to stay still and hold back.
01:42 Some of the best things that have happened to me in my life
01:47 have been because I pushed back that initial jolt of fear.
01:51 You know, going to a Magnet High School
01:54 rather than staying in my neighborhood high school.
01:58 Changed my whole trajectory about the college I would go to.
02:01 Making the decision to leave home
02:03 and go to an Ivy League school with rich kids
02:06 changed my trajectory.
02:08 Marrying a swerver who was a, you know,
02:12 young community organizer with a funny name
02:15 changed my life.
02:17 And on and on and on.
02:20 Being able to serve as this nation's first lady,
02:23 it was a scary proposition.
02:25 It wasn't something I would have been inclined to do,
02:27 but on the other side of that
02:29 was seeing my country in its wholeness.
02:32 Meeting millions of amazing young people
02:37 and maybe changing a life or two
02:41 by simply shining whatever light I had on to them.
02:45 For me, possibility lies on the other side of that fear.
02:50 So I have to remind myself of that.
02:52 Don't hold back, just lean into it.
