00:00 another live edition of the Patriots beat podcast in our last
00:04 I think we're good. Keep going. Keep going. All right, and our last training camp daily podcast here, but um
00:15 Brian Heinz from Pats pulpit as always with Alex Barth from 98 5 at the sports hub and
00:21 Before we break down that last training camp practice
00:24 There was a bit of some good news in the health department because Mike on when you made his first
00:30 Appearance and a limited fashion as you would expect from someone who hasn't been in the football field
00:35 All year, but he was activated off the pop list today
00:39 He's been dealing with that, you know ankle rehab from ankle surgery wasn't there all spring
00:44 he hasn't been there all summer up until today, but
00:47 Some some good news there on the offensive line
00:51 Which you know, we needed at this point at this point of the summer that big Mike is back
00:55 Yeah, it's big. It's big news. There's finally maybe some resources coming to help out this offensive line and we didn't see a ton of
01:04 him today just
01:05 Individual positional drills and I'd say for what it was he moved around fine didn't take part in any team drills
01:10 But this encourages me because I I don't think they would have activated him if there wasn't a chance
01:16 He could play even if not week one like weeks two or three, right?
01:18 He's got to miss six weeks if he's on PUP, so they plan on having him early in the season, which I definitely think is
01:24 encouraging I
01:27 Now the question becomes is gonna be a right guard or right tackle
01:31 My theory is that they might be setting him up to play right tackle because they're moving Riley reef in a right guard
01:35 He's been good there. So the reason you don't kick him back out to tackle fill in is you want to keep that continuity?
01:40 So we'll see what happens there but getting him back is big
01:42 I'm actually more worried about Cole strange for week one at this point than I am about Mike on when oh
01:47 Yep, strange was he was out there but not in pads or anything today
01:52 So he's up to at least two weeks without practicing here. But yeah on when new it's like if they were thinking of putting him
02:00 Back at right guard you think they'd be you know back to experimenting reef at right tackle
02:05 but he's still been mostly inside with the city out there at right tackle, so
02:10 We were not gonna know probably until week one here
02:15 Right. This is our last practice that that we have full access to so this is probably gonna be
02:20 We're gonna get out there an hour and a half before that week one game and see what they're what they're cooking up here on
02:26 the offensive line, well
02:28 Yeah, we'll get injury reports. We'll have kind of an idea right at least of where he's at
02:32 Like if he's a DNP the first week, that's not a great sign
02:35 I think technically based on what he did today. They could list him as a DNP because he didn't do any team drills
02:40 Okay, I think I the the the guidelines on that are fuzzy, but I do think the I
02:49 Just getting him back to good sign again. I think there's a chance he plays you want to they need him
02:53 They need him because it was another rough day for city
02:56 So it's another rough day for the offensive line as a whole
02:58 Eight sacks combined for Mac Jones Bailey's happy between 42 dropbacks or the numbers Andrew Callahan had
03:05 They got to get this thing figured out because right now they look we've seen a lot of promising things from the receivers
03:09 I think we saw some more that today Kendrick Bourne had a really good day caught a couple of deep balls for Mac Jones
03:14 But I think at least one of those probably would have been a sack
03:18 Like it in Mac kind of right Mac kind of threw it later and look born still ran his route
03:22 That has nothing to do with it would have been a sack or not
03:24 So we need credit for that, but they got to be able to get this thing blocked. Yeah, absolutely and
03:29 McDermott still out right so that that's kind of the thing. We're gonna be waited on here is
03:36 You know, they have Brown Andrews a win new we'll see strange with that right tackle or right guard if it's reef and a win
03:43 Who's out but that's the thing that we're still gonna wait wait and see here
03:46 But yeah, it wasn't great today. All right, a lot of sacks as I just mentioned, but
03:51 I
03:53 Thought Mac. What'd you think of Mac? I thought there were some good throws today mentioned the deep one the born
03:59 He had a nice really nice ball to first sir and hunter Henry there late in an 11 session
04:04 But I don't know. What'd you think of Mac today?
04:07 He was solid solid day for him kind of what he's been all camp
04:10 He was you know, and there were no like massive throws, but I thought he was putting the ball where he needed to put it
04:15 We work it
04:16 I mean it kind of like Bill said the other day is working with what he's given right now the offensive lines definitely impacting him
04:21 As it is for Bailey's happy as it was for trace McSorley back when he actually practiced but I yeah
04:28 I thought he was fine fine day. How long have we gone now without?
04:31 Trace actually getting a throw in practice here. It's been a while
04:35 I it's kind of becoming that what exactly is it that you do hear meme?
04:38 And I said it going to that first that first preseason game
04:42 I think he was here just in case Malik Cunningham wasn't ready to be that third scout team quarterback and
04:46 Malik honey games at the very least ready for that might be ready for more but at the very least ready for that so
04:52 Yeah, I don't know. I just sorely still here. Honestly when I saw that they
04:56 Signed Marquand McCall yesterday and obviously that didn't work out if people missed it. He failed his physical
05:01 Which explains why he got cut like I was very surprised to get caught as were a lot of people in Carolina
05:06 That would be why but I thought it was gonna be McSorley was gonna be the one to go when they signed McCall yesterday
05:13 If he clears waivers, can he go to?
05:17 Carolina's IR. Do you know how that works? They could they could sign him and I are him
05:22 Okay, I don't know if you can I don't think you can sign somebody directly to IR
05:27 Well, yeah, they could sign him and well, they I think they'd have to wave him again to get him on IR
05:31 but generally those IR waver placements like
05:34 We don't have the trend to win the transaction log for today to trade Nixon officially get through he did
05:39 He cleared so he reverted that about New England's IR
05:42 It's very rare those guys get claimed and it's kind of an unspoken thing
05:46 Like if you remember way back the Patriots claimed
05:48 Tyler Gaffney from actually from the Panthers and the Panthers were like not happy about it because they're trying to get him on IR
05:54 So they could if they wanted to I guess we'll have to wait and see if they do that
05:57 I'm kind of surprised Patriots like he's a promising player. We've seen them do that. It's like they did a Gaffney just
06:02 Sign Mark Juan McCall. He doesn't pass the physical
06:05 I are um, and then you still have that guy next year and he's a good player
06:08 maybe it's something where there's like a
06:11 Lingering issue with the knee a degenerative issue with Disney something like that where he's just not gonna be healthy
06:16 And maybe that's why they failed them. But yeah, so no Mark one McCall
06:20 But yeah, I thought that there was a chance that McSorley we get a spot. Yeah disappointed on the call
06:27 we both liked him, but
06:29 Carl Davis was limited today. So that maybe that had something to do with it. That was the first time
06:34 I think he's been limited but maybe I think that I think the run defense against Green Bay had something to do with it
06:39 It wasn't good
06:40 That's gonna be my biggest thing to watch in all honestly in all honesty going into Thursday night Friday night and they have a good
06:47 They're facing a good run opponent, obviously in the Titans Derrick Henry, but they were a good
06:51 Run defending team last year, so I'm not willing
06:54 I'm not ready to say like oh, they're gonna I'm gonna stop the run all year because of three drives in the preseason
07:00 but I would like to see them show me something to
07:02 Knock down those fears a little bit and kind of knock down those worries and just prove last week was an off week
07:08 Emily Malik Willis will be a good test right that much a good point running quarterback. So that'll be
07:16 Exciting to watch and will lettuce can move a little too. I don't say Malik Willis level, but you know, he's pretty mobile
07:23 He can run around back there. So that'll be good to see them against kind of that mobile defense
07:27 Hopefully we got some Marte Mapu in there. We haven't seen him all the preseason games, but
07:33 That'd be enticing but back to the offense quick. You mentioned big day for Kendrick Bourne. He's just he looks awesome this year
07:42 Just he's open like every time whether he gets the ball or not it looks and then Keisha booty
07:46 Another really big day for him a few catches two touchdowns. I think one to end practice from Mac. So
07:53 This receivers Douglas was limited. We should say Taekwon still wasn't there
07:58 But I don't know booty and Borna are just looking awesome the last few days
08:02 Yeah, it's it's gonna be really interesting to see they I don't know how they knock either those guys these guys off the roster
08:10 They I think they both kind of have to make the team at this point
08:12 Especially if Taekwon Thorne is gonna be hurt
08:14 Six wide receivers a lot but you carry all those guys you put Taekwon on IR at the start of the season
08:19 And that's how you get the third tight end back on the roster, right?
08:22 That's how you end up signing Matt Sokol or Anthony perks or after you wave them or maybe that's where a guy like Shawn
08:28 Wade or a mere speed makes the roster or maybe another defensive lineman
08:32 Maybe a guy like chasing Hines makes the roster in that way. I just I I
08:37 Really think that they need those two guys to make the team and the other thing about it is even if he is healthy
08:41 What exactly is Taekwon Thorne's role in this offense?
08:43 What exactly is he doing? I know why he's making the team because he's a second round pick and he's fast player on the team
08:48 And maybe he'll field stretch a little bit but tomorrow Douglas gonna give you some of that
08:52 Certainly, I even the cage on booty to an extent can give you some of that. He is the straight line speed
08:58 So I have no problem if they I don't think they I arm before the 53
09:04 They're not gonna throw Taekwon Thorne season away, but I arm after he gets on 53. I
09:08 Agree with you
09:10 I think booty if he has this explosiveness back that he kind of looks like right like he could threaten some defenses
09:16 And I know Devante Parker isn't like known for it
09:20 But he kind of looks like he has an extra gear like vertically at times that this this summer
09:25 He's beat a few guys going along. I know yeah, we weren't there but it sounded like that one against Green Bay, right?
09:32 It was kind of like he just ran past them. It wasn't one of the jump balls deep down
09:36 So that's what a lot of the
09:37 I've heard other people say like Evan Lazar has been big on this take that Parker looks more explosive this year than he has
09:42 in the past, yeah, so
09:44 again, that's like if that was Taekwondo like this field stretcher and you have other guys like
09:50 Douglas and booty and even Parker being able to do that. It just looks
09:55 Grim for Taekwon from a playing time standpoint
09:59 Yeah, and that's what I'm saying again. Like what I understand why he's making the team but
10:04 What what then what right I can see where DeMario Doug was gonna play
10:10 I can't necessarily see where Keisha booty's gonna play this year
10:13 But he's a guy you want to keep because he's gonna play in the future. I don't Taekwon
10:18 How much guaranteed money's Taekwon Thornton have on his?
10:22 Contract after this year
10:27 He has no guaranteed money after this year
10:30 So the only guys really on the books after this year juju and Parker I would keep
10:37 Keisha on booty around I would really try to keep Keisha booty around
10:40 That's another reason just to keep them both for the future. But yeah, I think Taekwon is like if you start them on IR
10:47 it's you have a four-week trial of
10:49 booty and Douglas and
10:52 If they're looked apart like they do on the practice fields like I think Taekwon is buried
10:56 But if maybe they you know might need a little seasoning there then he could work his way back to that rotation
11:02 But yeah, I'd agree. That's like kind of where it looks like it's headed here
11:05 Yeah, yeah, and you mentioned that that third third tight end spot
11:12 Anthony Ferg sir had one of like the best plays of the day ran this little like out corner route
11:18 Really well and Mac hit him in stride. I think to build peppers wasn't covered coverage
11:23 Yeah, will line came over gave him like a huge attaboy. So I don't know that still looks like it's first sir and
11:30 Sokol I know Johnny Lumpkin and like two catches in the flat today, but I
11:35 Don't know or one of those guys catching your eyes more folks are so cool there. I
11:40 Go back and forth again. I think it's what are you asking them to do right week one?
11:46 I want Matt so cool on the roster because you're gonna need the extra blocker
11:48 But I do think Furker's flash firks first perks are just flash a little bit as a receiver
11:54 I I still but neither one of them shown me enough that like I'm
11:57 53 yeah, I think they're still practice squad guys. You elevate as needed. Yeah
12:02 Zeke we gotta talk about Zeke spoke to us for the first time and
12:09 He keeps just you know up taking his usage here and a lot of goal line work today
12:15 Which I thought was it was pretty noticeable and I thought his best play of the day came on a pass pro rep
12:21 It was like a play action and he came he was like faking right and then he came all the way back across the formation
12:28 left picked up a defender let Mac hit born on like a little short shallow route, but
12:34 Between that the goal line work like he kind of looks as as advertised here and we'll see, you know
12:39 That's straight line or that speed in the open field how much he's got left in the tank
12:43 But I think everything we're seeing from Zeke so far is what we've kind of expected and that's a good thing for this running back
12:49 room, I
12:50 Still think it's it's about how are they gonna use him? Is he gonna be situational?
12:54 Is it gonna be a drive-by-drive, but they keep working memory like yesterday?
12:57 He worked a lot in the in the passing game today. He worked a lot in a red zone seems like they're getting
13:01 Him ready for everything which I think is good because I would love to see them
13:05 Distribute the reps drive-by-drive rather in situation. They haven't done that a long time and look they've had players who are really good situationally
13:13 I understand why they did it but it's a bit more modern of a thing now to have that more well-rounded running back
13:18 So I'd like to see that. Yeah, that'd be a good rotation
13:20 But I know we touched on the offensive line briefly that anything
13:24 Specific kind of catch your eye there that we didn't you know talk about a rough day for Trent Brown today
13:30 He got run over a couple times
13:32 Wise yeah city so still doesn't look good. Rather your reef had her run a lap
13:36 He'd a false start on the first play of the day
13:39 Offensive lines rough offensive line is in rough shape right now and they'll get Michael Nunez back and that's good
13:45 But they got a long way to go to get ready for week one
13:47 One thing I just quick note that I brought up kind of yesterday
13:51 Maybe as a something they might you know experiment with here was there was one rep where?
13:56 Antonio Moffie kind of got walked back and they put they swapped chasing Hines out for him
14:02 And then I think they swapped a few times that period but chasing Hines another one of those guys who?
14:07 you know kind of come on the last week or two and
14:10 it's tough with the three rookies to like try to bump one of those off the roster just because they're mid-round rookies, but
14:17 He's impressive and they seem like they're giving them a little more run here
14:22 But I don't know if that's gonna be enough to you know, supplant one of these rookies going forward
14:26 Yeah, yeah, I'd agree with that. Yeah, but that's pretty much all I had offensively
14:33 We can go to the defense
14:37 Because we mentioned want to hear from our friends first or we could hear from our friends first. Oh, yeah, let's do that
14:42 Let's hear from Fandul

15:18 That's Fandul.com/boston
15:21 All right, let me ask you this first are you oh my dad asked me every day when you know after practice
15:34 How's his bet looking because he's got Patriots over seven and a half wins. Where are you on that?
15:38 I'm over on that. I've seen the eight and a half number out there a little bit that one. Um
15:43 It's probably about I have them like eight or nine wins
15:47 I think over seven and a half is a decent decent number. I took you caught over five wins earlier today
15:53 So that's my bet. That's the UConn. Okay, some people have Patriots at
15:58 six and a half six and a half you should be fine a
16:03 My fear has always been and say what you will about his decisions last couple years
16:07 I don't think all of them have been great
16:08 But I think the cam Newton year proved this when they really had a nothing of a roster bill Belichick's worth six wins
16:13 Yeah walking in the door. So I think six seven you're in good shape
16:18 It's that is like eight nine nine and eighteen
16:22 No
16:22 they'll start pushing that double digits if really all the what-ifs go right if they can figure out the
16:27 offensive line and if Mac truly bounces back from last year and
16:30 You know, they really get Kendrick Bourne involved and Keon white and Christian's awesome our team up where the players they are
16:35 We think they are then you start can start talking about 10 11 wins
16:39 But I am like I've been saying I've been saying this a lot when I get asked about Patriots record
16:43 I hate hate hate that they moved to 17 games and you go right to 18 because I missed the easy out of a take
16:51 That was there a 500 team and you can't say that anymore. You know, Evan eight eight one Evan
16:56 I think they're pretty 500. I always yeah, I put up in that eight to ten win range. So yeah, seven and a half
17:03 I think it is pretty good, but
17:05 We can jump over the defense. I
17:08 Think kind of the story of the the defense came late at the end there with Christian Gonzalez
17:15 All right. It looked like he went up and kind of came down and hurt that left leg ankle. He
17:21 Hopped over on his healthy foot over to the training staff
17:24 Table got checked out and then he came back for the last like team huddle and looked like he was walking pretty fine after that
17:32 So maybe they avoided something serious
17:34 But I don't know. Did you see anything else on?
17:37 Gonzalez on that injury front and are you kind of in that same boat there where they might have avoided something?
17:43 I thought the way he walked back over to the huddle was encouraging like he I know some people get on it
17:50 Cuz Phil said he was limping. I said he wasn't limping. I'd call it walking gingerly
17:53 I would understand if Phil would call it a limp. I'm not gonna disagree with Phil
17:57 I think that was a different of definition. I think people saw the same thing. I
18:00 Don't think we'll see him Friday. They'll be careful if they see him if we see him Friday, that's a great
18:06 great sign
18:07 But didn't look to me like the way he kind of walked away from the trainers instead of the trainers walking with him like that
18:13 That's not a guy that they're worried about for week one. Yeah, probably if it was something they wanted to go check out
18:18 maybe maybe they would have just taken him right in but
18:21 Yeah, he did rejoin that final team huddle and we should have mentioned it with the offense hunter Henry kind of had that same
18:27 situation late in practice went like down to catch like a diving pass and
18:33 Something something wasn't right there and he kind of shook off the trainers
18:38 But he never came back it into the play that into and to take any more reps
18:43 So another injury to kind of monitor there, so we'll see we'll see guys forward
18:48 but
18:50 With the bad offensive line play there was good
18:52 Defensive line play and we mentioned, you know
18:56 Dietrich why is rotting over a Trump Brown a few times but Matt you don was
19:00 Matt you don't right if there were any concerns about him, which I don't know why there would be he was awesome today
19:06 At least like three sacks pressures key on white who missed some time
19:11 Or got hurt at the end of the Green Bay week. He was kind of back out there and full participant
19:17 He looked really good the bomb God shall got involved. I think you quali. It's pushing the pocket at some time
19:22 So that's that's what we expect from that unit and they were looking the part today, especially against this offensive line
19:28 And that's where I just go and I'm like, it's not the resistance level isn't high
19:32 Well, they weren't on the highest difficulty. So they look good Dietrich wise looked very overpowering and particularly thought today, but
19:38 Gotta see him against a real unit. Yeah, it's like the Jets and hard knocks right like that
19:44 Nasty defensive front just first. Yeah
19:47 horrible offensive line, that's
19:49 Those Pat's Jets games are gonna be something this year. Those are gonna. Oh, yeah, baby
19:55 That old-school, Iowa, Iowa
19:59 South Dakota State score is a 5-2 football games past Jets. I can't wait some sicko football
20:05 the
20:07 One last year at Gillette was bad exact all that. I love that. I tweeted after that game
20:12 I love this stupid sport so much and that's gonna be like my thing now cuz I I
20:16 I'm sorry, if you didn't enjoy that game
20:19 You don't really get what the point of football and what there is to enjoy about football
20:24 I I was sitting next to Michael Hurley Michael Hurley wanted people jailed for that game having the second half and I
20:30 Yeah, that was that was peak 2022 Patriots
20:39 So
20:41 Anything else defensively Marcus Jones, I know yeah, he seemed to have a good day
20:48 I think play mostly on the boundary again, right? So they keep kind of rotating those corners. John Jones is still out
20:55 So just kind of rotating these guys there and I thought Marcus Jones played well today doctor
21:00 Yeah, I thought Marcus Jones was one of the best players said I'm really encouraging play cuz if he's gonna have to play on
21:06 the boundary
21:07 Fighting through Devante Parker a block from Devante Parker to blow up a screen pass great sign
21:11 Yeah, I still don't love the idea of him on the boundary
21:14 I don't know what their insistence is of putting these five eight corners on the boundary him miles Bryant like these are not
21:19 boundary players and I
21:21 Already had to see them do this miles Bryant who as I've said before I'm not as down on as most people I think they
21:25 Play him out of position. I've already had to see them kind of
21:28 Show screw around with him. No, let's not do it a Marcus Jones. He's a really good football player
21:33 let's put Marcus Jones in a position where he can succeed and
21:36 And and see what he turns into there use them in the slot corner use them as a nickelback use them as a dime back
21:41 I I just don't in some matchups
21:45 You're playing Miami. You want to put him on the boundary against the guy like Jalen Waddle? Yeah, that makes sense
21:50 I could even say maybe week one if that's what they were preparing for
21:53 He's a guy that could probably cover Devante Smith just based on the speed
21:56 I don't need to see Marcus Jones on T Higgins again. I don't need to see to Marcus
22:00 Marcus Jones on Devante Adams again, please enough of that the 5 8 5 10 corners can't cover the 6 5 receivers in last year
22:08 I sort of get it didn't have anybody else you have other options this year. You have Christian Gonzalez
22:12 you you you have
22:14 Jalen Mills you want to put it back out there?
22:17 I would think one of a mere speed or Shawn Wade or even Isaiah Bolton if he gets healthy off the practice squad is a
22:22 Guy you can use on a matchup basis
22:25 Even Jonathan Jones like I'm at the point where 510 Jonathan Jones put him out there 5 8 miles Bryant 5 8 Marcus Jones
22:31 I've seen enough of it. I don't need to see it anymore. It's not gonna work. It's not a skill thing
22:35 They're both very talented players
22:37 Marcus Jones even said this a certain point when you're 5 8 and ride receiver 6 5 and they throw the ball up
22:42 What do you do? Yeah, right, especially when that ride receiver has an insane vertical Margaret Jones a good vertical. So do these big receivers? So
22:50 There's only so many times you can seem get Moss before you have to wonder like at what point do they try something?
22:55 else, yeah
22:56 Last year was like they had to do it because they didn't have depth
22:59 But yeah, they don't they have the depth this year so you shouldn't have to have to do that
23:03 Where are you kind of on?
23:06 John Jones here because it's been I think 20 days exactly. So almost three weeks. Are you I know we've seen him
23:14 Kind of rehab and off to the side
23:16 Conditioning but are you nervous at all about his week one status here?
23:21 Do you think he's gonna be good to go for that Philly game?
23:24 Sorry, who is that cut out for second John Jones John Jones
23:28 The report was they were optimistic. We've kind of seen them a few times hasn't been in a while
23:32 But I remember before the the first week of joint practices. He was kind of out there hanging out
23:36 I'm not super worried about him. I I just think if it was
23:39 If it was more of an issue, you maybe would have seen them sign a corner or something. Yeah
23:44 so
23:47 You'd imagine yeah, you think optimistic that he's out there and Jack Jones spoke today, too
23:52 And he said he hopes he hopes he's available for week one
23:57 I will see he said he hadn't heard from the NFL about any sort of punishment or a possible suspension
24:04 So I know his court date is like three or four days now after that week one game
24:10 I believe and then like two or three days before somewhere in the middle between that week one a week two game. So
24:15 Looks like he he could be out there
24:18 and then if you have John Jones and the Sconzales injuries that much looks like they might have their full kind of stable back there, but
24:25 You know, we'll kind of wait wait and see how that thing shakes out
24:29 There's there's some question marks, but you hope those starters are out there
24:32 Yeah, you're just kind of waiting on that the way you're waiting on it. Yeah
24:35 but um
24:38 anything else defensively, I think that was
24:41 Yeah, I think that's pretty much it again kind of low tempo practice
24:47 Yeah, even though they had full pads, but kind of yeah kind of low tempo
24:51 But that was I think more to do some of the scout team stuff. Yeah
24:54 Okay, and we saw
24:58 speaking of scout team some Malik or Malik Cunningham a
25:02 Quarterback and did that thing really like he mixed in a few times for Zappi just in specific situations
25:09 So do you think we'll see him?
25:13 Friday Friday night the days are all jumbled but see him Friday night or is that like we don't help saw him to
25:19 Maybe try to sneak him onto the practice squad at this at this point. I hope we see him. I want to see him
25:25 I I don't think he's a prior
25:28 I think he's either on the roster. He's not there like I or like maybe he's on the practice. That's not a guy I
25:33 Just I just feel like there he's somebody you try to keep on the 53 because for him to be worth his value
25:41 Only twice during the season that makes it tough. So I think he's a guy that try to get on the roster out, right?
25:46 Yeah, and you keep seeing him do these other things right like Gunner
25:50 kick returner
25:53 Anything that and obviously still wide receiver
25:55 He's playing there a lot anything to make that roster spot valuable if they do do that
25:59 So looks like that might be where it's headed, but before we get into like a full, you know, talk about more Friday
26:06 We got to do special teams. There's some good and there are some bad so
26:11 Where do you want to start good or bad?
26:13 Let's start with the good because I think you need a you need a good victory lap on your boy. Okay, boomer there
26:19 Stop watch stop watch
26:22 Everybody in the comments on the last show one of booming her. So maybe that's what it is. Okay, so Bryce Boominger
26:28 Was awesome today. I think four punts for punts for each hit and Corliss weight man
26:34 He had two plus fives and then the other two were high four second hang times
26:41 So just kind of building off that that
26:44 Packers preseason game. He looked really good and wait a minute. I don't think was bad
26:49 I think he had one like low for sub four than a few like inside the 20, but it's just
26:55 That leg with Beringer. It's just so much more powerful and
26:59 Impressive what we've seen kind of throughout the spring and summer here. Yeah, he looked good today
27:04 Whatever that that was in Green Bay, whatever happened. He seems to be past it. So that's encouraging
27:10 Probably I think forget who said it but someone said it might have spent that seeing that first like live
27:15 Rush of a different opponent. Maybe that's yeah on his head or something, but I could see that it was also
27:20 He's still the primary holder, right? So when you're talking about that that punter battle, that's a big part of that, too
27:27 And he had it looked like he had a nice hold today
27:30 it was kind of a low snap and he recovered to get get a field goal up and through and
27:34 we'll take that to the field goal kickers because it was a bad day from Chad Ryland yesterday and
27:40 Nick folk was up today and wasn't great for him either. He finished
27:45 six of nine and he missed two two wide left and one kind of short to the right so
27:52 Looked all like that 35 50 yard range. So I
27:57 Don't know. Is it the old saying if you have two kickers you have no kickers or just kind of a
28:02 Rough two days here from these guys. It was a rough couple days. I'll say this. They're not cutting Chad
28:07 Ryland, they've never cut healthy fourth round pick under Bill Belichick. Maybe he Foxborough flews, but I doubt it
28:13 The two kicker things not going anywhere people. It's not going anywhere. And yeah, it's concerning to see them both struggle
28:19 I would have liked to see Ryland kick today. I
28:21 Have one guest I wanted three yesterday to see we bounce back
28:24 We won't see him again till the preseason game and then and that's it and then that's it - roster cuts
28:29 But I yeah rough rough close to camp for both kickers. Yeah. Yeah
28:34 I wanted him to kick just to see how he bounced back and recovered from yesterday, but
28:39 We'll see in the preseason even though they've given all the field goals to fault. I don't know if that's just
28:45 How it's worked or they want to you know, promote folk maybe for a trade, but we'll see how that kind of shakes out
28:52 Friday night, but yeah, the two kickers it's not going anywhere until they cut or trade Nick Falk. So we will find out
28:59 Was it Wednesday?
29:04 No Tuesday Tuesday Tuesday, okay, so we'll find out
29:07 Tuesday and we'll see if there's gonna be chaos that unfolds with the two the two kicker lineup. So
29:13 the only other special teams thing I had was
29:16 Amir speed has kind of taken that like Jordan high league role of like just working off to the side with the special teamers. So
29:25 He had a good
29:27 Good Houston game at preseason opener on special teams. He had a few noticeable plays
29:32 So as you're projecting these 53 man rosters, maybe if they do keep all these specialists
29:38 Maybe he's someone who qualifies for that for one of those roles
29:41 Yeah, and they need that other big cornerback to just like we kind of talked about so maybe that's that's how he gets on just
29:48 Depth everywhere depth on special teams depth the corner. Yeah, one of those depth role guys, but that was pretty much all I have from practice
29:55 I don't know if you had any other last things little again very very uneventful practice. Yeah and
30:02 The parts we could see when there wasn't a wall of offensive line, right?
30:06 It's so tough when we're on that lower field because you're like behind for all the players are standing
30:11 So you really can't see much especially I mean, I'm five nine. I'm a
30:14 you have to duck and weave through the little you know pockets of Bill Murray and
30:20 Whoever else is standing back there, but right
30:23 They do play their last few season game Friday and Tennessee Titans. So I'll ask you first
30:31 We expecting Mac we expecting some starters after they got
30:35 18 snaps or Mac at 18 snaps against Green Bay two days of work here
30:41 You you expecting the starters to roll out there Friday night? I think a little bit not a ton
30:45 Yeah, pretty much we saw last week, you know two or three drives. I am expecting them to play though. Yeah
30:50 Was it last year? They played like that whole first half in the third game. Oh, what you might be right
30:57 They've done things differently this year though, and they've done it. I don't this team's like kind of got banged up the last week and a
31:03 Half I would rather not play him personally
31:06 I they don't need to take any more injuries get him a series or two to get on the same page and that's it
31:10 Yeah, especially on offense
31:13 and they look I
31:16 Mean we haven't heard them say it was it I think it was a few weeks ago
31:20 Right when they said like where I had a schedule, right? Yeah, I don't know how much work live work
31:25 Do they need to get out there? We'll see. I was trying to pull up their last
31:29 I mean, they've acted like a team that's out of schedule. So their last preseason game was that disastrous Raiders game last year
31:35 Oh, that's right. That was a I wonder if they were originally supposed to play a half or if it was just so bad
31:41 They had to put him out there more than that
31:43 So I I wouldn't be surprised if that was a part of it
31:47 I don't see the snap counts here, but Mac was like 9 of 13. So and zappy was kind of for ya
31:54 so it looked like some decent work from them, but
31:56 yeah, that one was a disaster I remember but
32:00 Yeah, so any anyone else will see all these injuries how they if guys like Christian Gonzalez are out there or a key on
32:08 white guys who've gotten banged up lately, but
32:11 Any other specific players that are kind of on your mind that you'll be you know
32:16 Watching as they make one last kind of case for a roster spot here
32:19 Yes, I mentioned the run defense Malik Cunningham will be interesting to watch case on booty
32:23 We already do we touch on case on booty? I just did the sports of podcast with Matt dollop - so yeah, we did this
32:30 so yeah, um
32:32 The Amir speed kind of those those fringe roster guys
32:36 Yeah, that's that's who I'm gonna be watching those guys that are on the bubble and I wrote this week
32:42 I kind of defined what I think the Patriots bubble is right now. You can check that out on 98 5 the sports of comm
32:48 But yeah, just it's last chance proof those tight ends kind of all these guys you've talked about are they on our are they not?
32:54 On this is a lot of these these battles are coming right down to the wire. Yeah
32:59 Yeah, you said the best there but last thing I got do you think they have an open roster spot any?
33:05 Predictions position wise you think they'll even
33:08 Use that roster spot or just kind of carry that in like one of the cuts basically
33:13 No, I think yeah that that becomes a cut you carry that because you're not signing. Maybe they use it
33:18 If if a team starts doing their cuts early just sign a player they want on the roster
33:25 Right for the 53 or if they make a trade or whatever
33:29 They use that to roster that if they make a trade before cut downs are official
33:33 They just use that that roster spot to make it official a little earlier. But like I don't
33:37 You're not gonna see them sign somebody before the game
33:41 You're not gonna see them sign somebody for Tennessee, and I don't think you'll see them sign anybody before like Monday or Tuesday
33:45 Yeah, I like that. Josh has a good idea. Just use it on Justin Jefferson. Yeah
33:51 Oh, I mean, I didn't even think of that as a great idea Josh. Yeah, go get just Jefferson
33:54 No, like I at that point. Can we go get Trent Williams? Yeah, that'd be nice
33:59 Josh also had a think we'll see tomorrow Douglas. No, I mean we have a
34:05 Is he is Barry he I I got a nickname for tomorrow Douglas
34:09 So we're you got to figure out with Bryce Beringer whether it's booming er or a stopwatch
34:13 I think we call tomorrow Douglas the time capsule because he's buried
34:16 Okay, so do you think he's actually we already have the time Lord in Boston. That's it might be too close
34:22 I think it would pair well together if you have yeah, right
34:26 You think he's actually hurt here or it's just it might be a little nicked up, but I think it's a little bit of both
34:32 Yeah
34:33 That'll be interesting. But I'll say tomorrow Douglas already has a nickname. It's pop. That's true. Yeah
34:39 Maybe you could work those two together. So now yeah, I don't know. I don't know but um
34:44 Anything last things before we call this here the last last training camp show. Oh, you know what?
34:52 It is also the last show
34:55 before
34:57 Week zero. So Brian give me some takes on these weeks your college football matchups coming up
35:01 I honestly haven't even looked at them that closely. I know rookie move there, but
35:07 Alright, so me and me and Mike Catholic when it compared to Mike here
35:11 We go through like some of the lines some of the games
35:13 Notre Dame - 21 against Navy
35:17 In the Navy
35:21 Just for fun. I'm taking Navy. I'm taking a me in that one. I really am
35:24 Hawaii Vanderbilt Hawaii by 17 and a half or sorry Vanderbilt by 17 and a half
35:31 I'll go Hawaii. I think Hawaii might win that came out right Vanderbilt doesn't even have its own own
35:36 stadium right now
35:39 USC there's a big spread - 30 and a half against San Jose State
35:43 Wait, it was Vanderbilt the stadium that just like the end zone is knocked out. Yeah
35:48 Yeah, that's classic. Oh, what was the other one? I
35:54 USC - 30 and a half San Jose State. I'll go you see I'm going to USC my hang for 60
36:00 Oh, yeah, and then I am take this this lines actually moved to his eight and a half
36:05 It's down to six, New Mexico State favorite against UMass
36:08 Sickos game of the year you man one two teams that I think when I combined one game last year
36:14 I will be locked into that on Saturday night
36:16 I'll be watching it at the Bruce Springsteen concert because I'm a ridiculous person. I
36:20 New Mexico State's gonna blow doors against UMass. I'll say that right now. Yeah, they got ESPN for that game
36:27 Yeah, they did is it ESPN? I think it's ESPN something. No, it is ESPN. This just says yes
36:33 All right. All right, baby. Make the masses watch sickos football
36:38 That is who you got that's a New Mexico State. That's a good pick
36:43 One of my college stakes it's just always better against UMass
36:49 Well, New Mexico State's one of those things you can always bet against it. Yeah
36:52 All right
36:56 Well, I forgot the Ireland that's the Ireland game is the Navy one. Yeah, yeah
37:01 That'll be fun. So
37:03 Yep, but we'll be here to break down that UMass game some point this this weekend and maybe touch on the Patriots final
37:11 preseason game to in there, but
