00:32 Hi, everyone.
00:39 Thank you all so much for being here today
00:42 to help welcome Coach DeVore and his family
00:46 to the University of Washington.
00:48 Before I formally-- oh, was that a clap?
00:50 [APPLAUSE]
00:51 Let's go.
00:52 [APPLAUSE]
00:53 Let's go.
00:54 [APPLAUSE]
00:56 Awesome.
00:58 Before I introduce Coach DeVore formally,
01:02 I just want to take a quick moment
01:03 to recognize several individuals that
01:05 have been very helpful and supportive
01:08 through this process.
01:10 First, I would like to thank President Cauce, who's
01:13 here today.
01:14 Thank you, President Cauce.
01:15 [APPLAUSE]
01:19 You're an amazing leader, and you commit to football
01:23 and to this department, and most important, to our students.
01:26 So we're very grateful for you.
01:28 I want to take a moment to recognize Coach Peterson, who's
01:31 probably hiding somewhere here in the back,
01:34 maybe, for his guidance and his counsel every day,
01:40 but in particular, over the course
01:42 of the last couple of weeks.
01:44 I want to thank our staff.
01:46 Every single person in our athletic department
01:48 has been a tough couple of years here.
01:50 You guys keep stepping up, and we really, really
01:52 appreciate everything you've done,
01:54 in particular, to make this a special day for Coach DeVore
01:57 and for Husky football.
01:59 I also want to thank all the individuals, especially
02:03 our former athletes and our students,
02:05 for the input and the feedback that they gave
02:08 throughout the search process.
02:10 And finally, I want to thank all the talented men
02:13 that we had the opportunity to meet with, who were
02:16 interested in this position.
02:17 We have outstanding student athletes
02:22 at the University of Washington.
02:25 These guys in this program, they're so committed.
02:28 They sacrificed so much for this university, for this program,
02:32 for this community.
02:34 And they deserve a first class experience.
02:37 They deserve a chance to compete for championships,
02:41 to earn their degrees, to take full advantage of everything
02:44 that this remarkable university has to offer.
02:48 So when we were looking for a coach,
02:49 we were looking for a coach that shared those goals, that
02:53 embodied our values, that cared about the development of men,
02:57 both on and off the field, that knew
03:01 how to instill and inspire a championship culture,
03:06 bring a little innovative football to Montlake.
03:09 Yep.
03:10 [APPLAUSE]
03:16 And that saw this place as special as we do,
03:19 a place that he could pursue all of his high dreams
03:24 that we all share here at UW for UW football.
03:29 I know you've all had a chance over the last 24 hours
03:31 to read a lot about Coach DeVore, his accomplishments,
03:36 kind of what he's all about.
03:37 And I'll just say this.
03:38 I don't need to get into all those details.
03:40 What I will tell you is this guy's a winner in every way.
03:45 He's won at every level of college football.
03:48 He's revitalized programs.
03:50 Everywhere he's been, those programs have gotten better.
03:54 And I have no doubt he's going to do the same thing here
03:56 at the University of Washington.
03:58 But even more important, this is a high character,
04:02 high integrity man.
04:04 He's going to care about our students.
04:06 He's going to push them.
04:08 He's going to care about our staff.
04:10 He's going to push us.
04:12 But he's going to do things the right way, the Washington way.
04:15 And he's going to win doing it.
04:17 Yeah.
04:19 So it's my honor today to congratulate and welcome
04:23 Coach DeVore and also welcome his insanely cool family.
04:28 I can't wait for you to meet them all,
04:30 Nicole, Ashley, and Avery, to the Husky family.
04:34 Alexis.
04:35 Oh, I'm sorry.
04:36 I'm sorry.
04:36 I know Alexis, who's a very good softball player, by the way.
04:40 Yeah.
04:42 Welcome, y'all.
04:43 Congratulations, Coach.
