An influx of tropical moisture will still spread inland across areas of South Texas and far northeastern Mexico.

00:00 It's that time of year where we really
00:02 keep our eyes on the tropics.
00:04 The Atlantic hurricane season coming
00:05 out of what we call the doldrums,
00:08 where activities a bit low and slow,
00:10 if you will,
00:11 and at the end of August and beginning
00:13 of September, generally speaking,
00:14 it ramps right back up and that's
00:16 what we're seeing right now.
00:18 Not just in the Atlantic Basin,
00:20 but the Gulf of Mexico.
00:21 We have an organizing area of
00:23 showers and thunderstorms,
00:24 and this looks like at this point it
00:26 will become a tropical rainstorm at
00:28 the least as we move through today.
00:31 And into Tuesday looks like it's
00:33 heading at this point for the
00:34 Gulf Coast of Texas,
00:36 which gives us a lot of give and take
00:38 as we move through Tuesday and Wednesday.
00:41 Here's the give.
00:42 We could have some risk to
00:44 lives and property here.
00:45 Some impacts depicted in the bright
00:47 sunshine yellow around areas like
00:48 Del Rio, Victoria, Corpus Christi,
00:50 and McAllen, TX.
00:51 And then you'll notice the moderate
00:53 impacts just over the border.
00:54 In the orange color,
00:55 we're looking at flooding rainfall
00:57 some locally gusty winds,
00:58 rough seas and rip currents as well.
01:00 Not a good time to be on the water,
01:03 but here's the thing.
01:04 We really need the rain in South Texas.
01:07 We really need the rain in most of Texas,
01:09 but South Texas has experienced drought
01:11 conditions over the past few months,
01:13 so rain,
01:13 while it could be bad in the short term,
01:16 could really help this area in the long term.
01:19 How much rain are we looking at?
01:21 Well, that's part of the problem, right?
01:23 We don't want too much all at once,
01:25 but we do want to be careful
01:27 about heavy downpours in areas
01:28 like Laredo were looking at two
01:30 to four inches of rainfall here.
01:32 Corpus Christi more of the same.
01:34 Victoria looking at one to two inches
01:36 Del Rio and McAllen one to two inches as
01:38 well now in terms of what comes next.
01:41 Well, make sure that you are prepared.
01:43 We have tropical storm warnings now
01:44 in Port Lavaca as well as Corpus
01:46 Christi all the way down to Raymondville
01:48 right along the Gulf Coast of Texas.
01:50 As this storm moves forward again,
01:52 make sure you're heating those warnings.
01:54 Be prepared for that drenching
01:56 rainfall and damaging gusty winds.
01:58 In cities like Corpus Christi,
01:59 where we go from awfully warm and
02:01 sunny today to drenching rain and
02:03 back to the 80s and 90s on Tuesday
02:05 and Wednesday.
