00:00 (upbeat music)
00:02 Well, we're taking our eye to the tropics.
00:07 And what do you need to know for early next week?
00:10 Well, we have a system that is brewing
00:12 in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico.
00:14 Development is likely to become a high-end tropical storm
00:18 or a category one hurricane.
00:20 And we are expecting landfall impacts to the US.
00:23 That's going to be from the Panhandle to the Big Bite.
00:26 So Florida landfall, heads up.
00:29 We are tracking tropical impacts.
00:31 And so if we look at the tropical storm now,
00:34 well, it's been able to breed in the Gulf of Mexico
00:37 because we have very warm ocean waters.
00:40 And also as we head into early next week,
00:42 we're going to start to see weakened
00:45 or at least lessened wind shear.
00:47 So that's going to open up the Gulf of Mexico
00:49 for business for tropical development.
00:52 And so what we have this weekend,
00:55 while it's still sitting here in the Gulf,
00:57 it's little movement.
00:58 So that's good news for the storm,
01:00 not necessarily good news in terms of tropical development
01:03 and impacts to land.
01:04 But as it continues to track North,
01:07 you see we have strong wind shear through Sunday.
01:10 Watch what happens as we head into the early week though.
01:12 That wind shear starts the weekend.
01:14 And so that's going to allow this system to barrel North
01:18 because we have limited wind shear,
01:20 we have warm ocean temperatures,
01:22 and we have plenty of moisture
01:24 that we are playing around with.
01:25 And so all recipes for a strengthening tropical storm.
01:30 Now, we are anticipating it to become a category one
01:35 hurricane by early Wednesday,
01:38 anticipating it to make landfall.
01:40 And then it's going to shoot North and East
01:42 as we take this throughout next Thursday into Friday.
01:45 That's when it's going to start to lose
01:46 some of that wind intensity after it hits land.
01:49 And then it's going to turn back down to a tropical storm,
01:52 but still packing quite the punch.
01:54 We do have a moderate risk to lives and property
01:57 that's going to extend across the Eastern seaboard
01:59 through the Carolinas, down through the Georgia coast,
02:02 and a little bit even inland too,
02:04 down through the Florida panhandle.
02:06 That means a moderate risk to lives and property.
02:08 Okay, rough seas and strong rip currents.
02:11 Make sure that you aren't driving through any flooded areas
02:13 or roadways and not going to be the best time
02:17 to maybe head out to the beach.
02:19 Again, rough seas and strong rip currents.
