00:00 I specifically remember getting hit in the head
00:01 with a golf ball.
00:02 That is not a joke.
00:04 And I hope that person rots in jail.
00:06 Hi Harper's Bazaar, my name is Renee Rapp
00:07 and I'm going to be answering some questions
00:09 that are all about me.
00:12 What's my most viewed video on YouTube?
00:14 I'm gonna be honest, I don't even think I run that account.
00:17 (laughs)
00:19 Actually, wait, I actually think I know this
00:21 because my dad watches numbers in a very annoying way.
00:24 Like he's like, "Hey, this is up like 20,"
00:26 I'm like, "Thanks so much."
00:28 I think "Don't Tell My Mom" the music video
00:30 is my most viewed video on YouTube.
00:32 And I actually think I'm right.
00:33 So wrong.
00:34 "Too Well" is my most viewed video on YouTube,
00:37 which is my most hated video on YouTube for me.
00:40 Everything about that song I detest
00:42 and it ends up doing really well,
00:44 which is really creatively reassuring for me.
00:47 I was like, "This song will never see the light of day."
00:49 And then it did.
00:51 And I don't know why I decided to wear what I wore.
00:53 Like I remember looking back at this video
00:54 after it came out and I was like,
00:55 "Why do I look like that?"
00:56 Like that is ridiculous.
00:58 [laughing]
00:59 What was my character's name
01:01 in the musical "Spring Awakening"?
01:03 I think it's pronounced Vendla or Wendla.
01:08 I'm pretty sure.
01:09 What do I like more, acting for stage or screen?
01:12 Both and neither.
01:14 And whatever I feel that day.
01:18 And my answer will be different tomorrow.
01:20 I definitely do miss being on stage in theater, I will say.
01:26 That's happened over the last month.
01:27 I've been like, I miss that a lot.
01:29 What was the color of my second outfit
01:31 in my music video "Snow Angel"?
01:33 A baby pink, a pastel, if you will, a ballerina pink.
01:37 It was actually supposed to look white, but it didn't.
01:40 Okay, so the answer is white, but it is a soft shoe pink.
01:44 It is.
01:44 If you had seen it without the color grading of the video,
01:47 you would know that it was pink.
01:49 It's from Acne and it's really, really, really a cute top.
01:52 - What was the inspiration behind this music video?
01:54 - We kind of just went through and we were like,
01:56 "All right, we don't exactly wanna tell
01:58 exactly what happened, but we wanna tell
02:00 a more palatable and metaphoric sort of version
02:04 of what actually happened in my life."
02:07 Ow.
02:08 My new album "Snow Angel" was sort of like a culmination
02:11 of everything that I've gone through in the past
02:12 like six or seven months now.
02:14 I grew a lot in 2022 as a human being
02:18 and as a person being on my own.
02:19 This album is all of the things that I'm finally
02:23 really excited to own about myself
02:25 that I didn't for a long time.
02:27 I think I'm much less afraid of how I'm perceived now
02:31 in a music space, not in any other space.
02:34 This is a very unapologetic version of myself.
02:37 What are the last two lines of my song "Tattoos"?
02:40 But that's what scares me the most.
02:41 It'll tear me apart when you go.
02:43 I have a good memory.
02:45 How has my experience creating my upcoming album
02:47 "Snow Angel" been?
02:48 It has been so fucking fun.
02:51 The day that we finished recording everything on the album
02:55 and there were no more vocals to cut,
02:56 no more production things to do, I was so sad.
02:59 I was finally so sad and I think recording music
03:01 obviously is the most important thing in my life.
03:03 I had been really stressed about it
03:06 and I wasn't stressed anymore.
03:08 For the first time I was like,
03:09 "Oh, I actually don't wanna go and do press for this.
03:12 "I've explained myself enough."
03:14 Which is exactly why I'm sitting here before you today.
03:17 What sport did I play in high school?
03:20 I only played golf 'cause my parents really wanted me
03:22 to get a golf scholarship.
03:23 That did not work out for them, but I did have fun.
03:27 I also had, yeah, anger management issues
03:30 while I was doing it.
03:30 Not in a crazy way, just like,
03:32 you have to be so quiet during that sport
03:33 and I'm not with that.
03:35 Juggling sports and theater was weird
03:37 because it was like two very different,
03:40 very, very different sides of myself
03:42 and also groups of people.
03:43 I remember when I played golf in middle school,
03:46 I was on the boys team 'cause there was no girls team
03:48 and the boys were so mean to me.
03:51 Like, they were so brutal.
03:53 I specifically remember getting hit in the head
03:55 with a golf ball.
03:56 That is not a joke.
03:57 And I hope that person rots in jail.
03:59 It was very misogynistic in one environment
04:01 and wanting people to like me in theater.
04:03 So actually, I guess it was the same.
04:04 I just wanted everybody to like me.
04:07 I didn't really think of pursuing musical theater.
04:10 Like, I was thinking about pursuing music
04:13 and being Beyonce.
04:14 Like, that's what I wanted until I saw that, like,
04:16 musical theater was something that could take me to this.
04:21 And then I really started to love it.
04:23 Oh my God.
04:24 Question.
04:25 What was I wearing in my first Instagram post?
04:28 Well, I do a lot of cycle through,
04:30 delete, archive, delete, archive.
04:32 So it depends when the last person looked at my social media.
04:37 I would say I'm actually in a little black bikini.
04:41 Yeah, I am.
04:43 I am.
04:44 I lost that bikini top when I moved to New York
04:46 and I was so sad about it 'cause it was super cute.
04:49 I think I got it from Target
04:50 and it's me and one of my best friends
04:52 from like growing up, Ileana.
04:54 And we honestly look so hot in that photo.
04:56 For social media, I kind of just do whatever.
04:59 There's really no rhyme or reason to it.
05:01 I care so much, don't get me wrong.
05:03 Like, the second like anybody says like anything bad to me,
05:06 I'm like, ah, stop it.
05:08 And it does make me insecure.
05:10 And I do think about it before I go to bed at night
05:11 and when I wake up in the morning
05:12 and the whole day the next day.
05:14 But I don't really care about like what I post or do.
05:17 I think I did pretty well on those.
05:19 And now it is time for the lightning round.
05:21 I have 30 seconds to answer as many questions as possible,
05:25 which I will do now.
05:26 Question, what is my zodiac sign?
05:27 Capricorn.
05:28 What is my favorite song right now?
05:29 Snow Angel by Renee Rapp.
05:30 When did I wear this?
05:31 A time I never should have worn this fucking outfit.
05:33 I wore this to a premiere.
05:34 Look at this, look up, something about climate change.
05:36 What was the best part about playing Regina George?
05:39 Getting to wear a wig every night, even though I hated it.
05:41 What was the name of my first tour, the first shows?
05:43 What is my favorite way to relax?
05:44 Pilates.
05:45 What song for my upcoming album
05:46 am I most excited to perform on tour?
05:48 Poison Poison.
05:49 Where do I plan to travel next?
05:50 Hopefully nowhere.
05:51 I wanna stay in one place for a second.
05:53 What's my childhood memory that always makes me smile?
05:55 Any of my dad and I listening to music in the car.
05:57 The first batch of questions
05:57 is going to be about my career.
05:58 I did it.
05:59 (laughing)
06:00 Thanks for having me, Harper's Bazaar.
06:02 Make sure that you buy my album, Snow Angel,
06:05 and I hope you like it.
06:07 And if you don't, kick rocks.
06:09 Yay.
06:09 (laughing)
