00:00What do you mean Ryan Gosling knows who I am?
00:01What are you talking about?
00:02It's crazy.
00:03Hi Harper's Bazaar, I'm Nicola Coughlin,
00:05and I'm here to look back
00:06at some of my favorite fashion moments.
00:08This is Fashion Flashback.
00:11I like to have super high fashion dress up moments
00:16and then what I call slug mode.
00:18One of my friends, Camilla Whitehill, said to me,
00:21you either are dressed like a best actress nominee
00:24at the Oscars or a really stressed nurse
00:26at the end of a long shift,
00:27and I think that's very true.
00:29Okay, I love this one.
00:31This is when I was a guest judge on RuPaul's Drag Race UK.
00:35It was an all pink look from head to toe,
00:37so the hair matched the dress and everything.
00:39This was a look inspired by a costume worn
00:43by Shirley MacLaine in the movie called Waterway to Go.
00:45I brought that reference to Amy Croisdale, my stylist,
00:48and this dress was made by Alberta Ferretti
00:50and it was just like this beautiful bow detail,
00:52like that color of pink, it was pink and purple in a mix
00:55and then the red shoes were Louboutins
00:58and they were a reference to Dorothy,
01:00who was my first and still my favorite gay icon.
01:03I remember that day thinking,
01:05I've got to impress RuPaul
01:06and I was ferociously writing down jokes
01:09for every single queen and I was like,
01:11does anybody even still wear a hat?
01:13And there was a queen called Christopher Saatchi
01:15and I was like, is that a Versace?
01:16And then Ru turned to me and went,
01:18you are so smart and so funny,
01:19and I was like, I can die now.
01:21I can die now, it's great.
01:23All right, the next one.
01:25Oh my goodness, so this is Christian Siriano
01:27for the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2021.
01:31This dress is amazing.
01:32It has a lot of like ruffle pieces on it
01:34that really weigh it down,
01:35so it moved in a very interesting way
01:37and then you've got sort of the sexiness
01:39of this like mini skirt element underneath
01:41and we did sort of tight,
01:42so there's lots of like,
01:43you could almost see skin through it, but not quite fully.
01:46And Neil Young did the makeup
01:47and it's this really like gothy lip
01:49and then we did the like slick hair
01:52and I've got diamonds on and everything was on Zoom.
01:55This was like my first award season
01:58with the show was literally sitting on my computer,
01:59so we got all dressed up, but we made an event of it.
02:02We were like, let's do a full on photo shoot
02:04and we went out on the street
02:05and this dress has been exhibited
02:07since at Kensington Palace as part of an exhibition,
02:10so that's pretty cool.
02:12Okay, the next one.
02:13Oh, okay, so this is Kustom Valentino
02:15for the BAFTA TV Awards.
02:17Pier Paolo designed this for me, which was so, so cool.
02:20With that super bright cobalt blue eye.
02:23I love blue eyeshadow.
02:25I will wear it at any given opportunity.
02:27These were Kustom colored Valentino heels.
02:30I still have.
02:31I have a funny story about these shoes.
02:33I presented this year.
02:34You go and you do a little rehearsal
02:36and then you get in the car and it drives you to the front.
02:38And when I was getting out,
02:39my foot was really hot and it sweated
02:41and my shoe, I was being filmed getting out of the car,
02:43my shoe torpedoed off my foot
02:46and I was like trying to hold onto it
02:47so my foot just clenched.
02:49I was like, oh my God, this is so embarrassing.
02:51And the comments online were brutal.
02:53They were like, she should have got a pedicure.
02:56And I was like, well, I didn't think my shoe would fall off.
02:58So it was like a Cinderella moment, but not very glam.
03:03I love this.
03:04This was Met Gala 2022.
03:07This was crazy.
03:09I love this look.
03:09It makes me really happy.
03:11And again, if the huge Cape train,
03:13whatever you'd like to call it,
03:14they were like, do you think we need that?
03:15Do you think we'll manage with it?
03:16And I'm like, you've got to.
03:18Cause I was like on those steps,
03:20like it will just look so epic.
03:21And these feathers, I'd seen them on.
03:23They had this beautiful bridal look that Lila Moss wore
03:26and it had them coming out of it.
03:27And I was like, that's just so cool.
03:30So they incorporated them into this dress.
03:33I am definitely one of those people who sits at home
03:35and watches The Met in my pajamas
03:36and judges from the high heavens be like,
03:39why would they wear that?
03:40And that's not on theme.
03:41I'm a stickler for the theme.
03:42So this was the golden age this year.
03:44So I made a Pinterest board with a lot of pictures
03:47of dresses from that era and the silhouettes.
03:49And we went to Richard Quinn
03:52and his team made this dress in like a week.
03:55I feel like the first person I talked to on the carpet
03:57was Kris Jenner, randomly.
03:59And I went up to her and I was like,
04:01we're at the same table.
04:02Like we should have a drink.
04:02She was like, okay.
04:03I think she was like, who is this girl?
04:05Like what?
04:05I also met Kim that night
04:07and she was wearing the replica Marilyn.
04:09She was very nice.
04:10I was just like, why am I here?
04:12This is so mad.
04:15Oh, this is so cool.
04:16So this is custom Christopher Cain.
04:18It was like a really powerful look.
04:20It was really fun.
04:20But I feel like this is like PVC none.
04:23Cause yeah, the shape is very pretty.
04:24Then you look at you're like, oh no, it's latex.
04:27Like that's really cool.
04:28So he always just like has a little element
04:30of something naughty in what he designs.
04:32And I love it.
04:33I had actually seen this dress on the runway
04:35and sent it to Amy.
04:36And was like, I really want to wear this.
04:37I think it's really cool.
04:38And what I hated about it was how hot it was.
04:42And I hated that if you touched the dress,
04:45it got fingerprints on it.
04:46So yeah, I was covered in fingerprints.
04:48You can't really see any.
04:49No, I was good.
04:50I wiped myself before I got on stage.
04:53Yeah.
04:54Okay.
04:55Oh, this.
04:56So this is in Sao Paulo for Tudum.
04:58This is a Mara Hoffman dress, which I absolutely love.
05:02It's just such a beautiful shape.
05:04And I love the pop of blue with the gloves.
05:06A lot of people like did not get the gloves.
05:08And I was like, you don't have to get them.
05:09I get them and I love them.
05:11The gloves were leather.
05:12They're epic.
05:13I think they just really heightened it a little bit
05:16and just gave it a feel of something.
05:17Cause that's like the magic of good styling.
05:20That you can take something that's not a regular dress,
05:22but you know what I'm saying?
05:23And just like elevate it to something special.
05:27Oh, I love this dress so much.
05:29This is the Barbie Premiere.
05:31This is a custom Widerhoff design.
05:34I wanted the Premiere look to be an homage
05:36to my Barbie in the movie, Diplomat Barbie.
05:39I dyed my hair slightly red.
05:40I didn't want to go as red as I was in the movie.
05:43It was a silver dress with pink accents
05:45and they gave me a ginger wig.
05:47I just loved this look.
05:49It was everything I wanted it to be.
05:50And when I was in my costume fittings,
05:52Jacqueline Duran, she said to me,
05:54what do you want to wear in this movie?
05:55And I was like, are you kidding?
05:57I loved Barbie as a kid.
05:58So I collected pictures of all the Barbies that I had.
06:01And in my Barbie lore,
06:04the head of my Barbie family
06:06was one called Sparkle Eyes Barbie, right?
06:08And she had diamonds for eyes.
06:10So I showed this to Jacqueline.
06:11She was like, do you want to be Sparkle Eyes Barbie?
06:13Do you want us to like make you that dress?
06:15And it was like the most thrilling thing
06:18for an inner child.
06:19You're just like, oh my God, yes, I do.
06:21Being on that carpet with everybody was so surreal.
06:24It was like, what am I doing here?
06:27I will never forget it.
06:28And even seeing those pictures, I'm like, that's not me.
06:31That's not me.
06:32I wasn't in that movie.
06:33What do you mean Ryan Gosling knows who I am?
06:35What are you talking about?
06:36It's crazy, crazy.
06:39Oh my goodness.
06:40Okay, this was at Vogue World in London.
06:43And this was a Harris Reid moment.
06:45And I have been dying for a Harris Reid moment
06:48because he makes these incredible headpieces.
06:51And the gold fabric in this was recycled theater curtains.
06:57So the headpiece was incredible.
06:59But when I stepped out on the carpet,
07:01it was like a wind tunnel.
07:03The headpiece was like a kite.
07:05So it started to catch.
07:06I was like, this is going to fly off my head
07:09or rip some of my hair.
07:11So then I had to pivot.
07:12This was not how I was meant to pose,
07:14but I was like, sell it, sell it, sell it.
07:16Do this as if you've been meaning to do this
07:18It's fine.
07:19And there's quite a funny video of my stylist, Amy,
07:22going, put your hands down.
07:23And I'm going, I can't, I can't.
07:25And I'm like, don't see.
07:26Cause you're like, I can't move my hands.
07:28I can't move my hands.
07:29I have to hold it.
07:30This is fine.
07:31We'll work it, we'll work it.
07:32So you make lemons out of lemonade sometimes.
07:37Oh, well, this is very recent.
07:39So this is the Bridgerton season three premiere.
07:42This is custom Danielle Frankel.
07:44And these are Chopard jewels.
07:46So gorgeous.
07:48But Danielle Frankel, she's just incredible.
07:50Like her designs are so spectacular.
07:53And I tried on sort of a version of this
07:55and I was like, it's that.
07:57It just felt really classic and cool.
08:00And it's really funny.
08:01We had a pivot the day before
08:02cause we were going to do blue gloves and red shoes.
08:05And then Amy said, I think it needs to be all white.
08:08But then I think we felt the glam needed to be something
08:10like a little vampy.
08:11And then I was the one who sort of said,
08:13why don't we do like a play on Marilyn?
08:15Neil did this amazing Mac red lip, really, really strong.
08:19And then this kind of sultry eye with it.
08:21And he's such a master.
08:22That done wrong can look really, really bad.
08:24But also I said to myself,
08:25like you have to give face in a major way.
08:28Like if you're going to do Marilyn eyes,
08:30you've got to like have the like Marilyn eyes
08:32and not like this, you know.
08:34It's funny.
08:35Cause also if I ever see videos of myself posing,
08:37I'm like doing it, doing it, doing it.
08:39And then I'm like, oh.
08:40Yeah.
08:42Thank you for watching with me.
08:43It was a very fun to travel down fashion memory lane.
08:47Thanks guys.
