Transcript
00:00 >> Well, you were recruited by the Huskies, weren't you a long time ago?
00:05 >> I was.
00:06 >> Tell me about that.
00:07 I looked you up, I know you're from LA.
00:09 >> I was recruited by Coach Lambright, specifically Ron Myles.
00:14 >> Yeah.
00:15 >> And I had two high school teammates here, Chris Waddell and Larry Triplett.
00:20 >> Yeah.
00:20 >> And then I was planning to take a visit here at December of my senior year.
00:26 And I was on my visit at Colorado.
00:29 And during my visit to Colorado on Saturday night at dinner,
00:33 Rick Neuheiser announced that he was taking a job in Washington.
00:37 So Coach Lambright was out and then Rick tried to recruit me to here.
00:42 But it was just too much going on.
00:45 And ultimately, I knew Michigan was where I wanted to go.
00:47 But I was definitely gonna come up here for a visit cuz I like Coach Myles a lot.
00:51 And Larry was here and doing well and Chris Waddell was here.
00:56 So, I mean, Husky football has always been a staple on the West Coast.
01:01 I grew up watching it.
01:02 >> Yeah, yeah, I covered the James on it.
01:05 >> Yeah, yeah, I remember watching all those teams in the,
01:09 really the mid 90s before I really started watching, like 94 up to-
01:15 >> Yeah.
01:16 >> You know.
01:16 >> Yeah, I did the three Rose Bowls in a row.
01:18 >> Wow, wow.
01:19 >> So you come to Washington with the board staff.
01:23 You're at Michigan, which is a pretty good place.
01:24 You're alma mater for that matter.
01:27 How were they able to talk you into coming here and leaving there?
01:30 >> Coach DeBoer and Coach Farrell.
01:34 Coach DeBoer is awesome.
01:35 And when you work in this business for a while, it's about the people.
01:40 >> Yeah.
01:41 >> And nothing else.
01:43 And you work closely with football, you work so closely with your staff every day.
01:48 You definitely wanna be with people that you enjoy being around.
01:53 And he just made my experience in Fresno so good.
01:57 It was like, I wouldn't say it's a no-brainer, but it was a hard decision.
02:02 But ultimately, I knew it was good to go work with him.
02:04 >> Yeah, did your alma mater understand?
02:06 I mean, all those people that you've worked with?
02:08 >> No, they didn't understand it.
02:11 They didn't understand it.
02:12 I mean, Michigan people feel like there's no better place than Michigan,
02:16 which is true.
02:17 Michigan's a great place.
02:18 I enjoyed it.
02:19 It was great being back.
02:20 But I just knew Coach DeBoer was gonna do something special here.
02:24 I wanted to be a part of it.
