00:11 Tshani's statement came during a meeting with a delegation of religious leaders from

00:16 Tshani said that Niger's new leadership is optimistic about the start of a dialogue
00:22 with representatives of the 15 West African countries' regional bloc.
00:26 On July 28, it was announced that General Omar Tshani, a former commander of the Presidential
00:32 Guard, was taking over as head of the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland,
00:37 and that the functions of transitional president in Niger.
00:40 Previously, West African leaders evaluated the option of activating a regional standby
00:44 force to restore constitutional order in Niger.
