00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.
00:09 Some people, not naming names here, couldn't be me, have been talking about the Bloodline
00:13 Saga as potentially one of the greatest stories WWE has ever told.
00:17 And while there were some definite down periods where it didn't seem like anybody but Reigns
00:23 was getting over, there have been some people who have looked significantly better after
00:26 being involved with the Bloodline.
00:28 Namely, Solo Sakoa, The Usos and Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.
00:32 And while Jey has lined up to face Roman at Summerslam this weekend, Solo being involved
00:36 in that story too, Zayn and KO are the undisputed tag champs, and seem to be having quite the
00:41 run.
00:42 But how long will it last, because we might not be seeing Kevin Owens wrestle at all for
00:46 too much longer.
00:47 It had been reported back in late 2021 that KO had signed a three year deal with WWE,
00:53 meaning his contract expires in...2024.
00:55 Let's add that to the list of wrestlers who are having their contracts expiring that
00:59 year, it's so many.
01:01 But it seems when late 2024 rolls around, we won't be talking about KO potentially
01:05 leaving to go to AEW, but more about whether he's actually sticking around with WWE,
01:10 and crucially, in what capacity.
01:12 Because KO spoke to the Toronto Sun in an interview recently where he said, "I really
01:16 don't know what's left for me to accomplish in WWE.
01:19 I used to say I don't see myself not being in the ring for another 5 to 10 years, and
01:22 if I said that right now, I don't know if that's true anymore.
01:25 I know I want to be involved in the WWE and I know I have a place here, I just don't
01:29 know where it is exactly.
01:31 Maybe it's still in the ring, maybe it's not, I don't know."
01:34 He went on to say that he doesn't know right now, but he's just going to enjoy the year
01:37 and a half he's got left on his contract and see how he feels.
01:40 I for one would very much miss KO in the ring if he did decide to hang up the boots, but
01:44 Kevin Owens as a coach or a producer?
01:46 That sounds like a massive boon for WWE.
01:48 Meanwhile over in AEW, there's been quite a lot of chatter about the AEW Women's Division
01:53 as of late, what with criticism mounting over their booking, Lufisto speaking on someone
01:58 backstage with too much power causing her to not do more with the company, and now...there's
02:02 this.
02:03 After confirming that Britt Baker was not the person Lufisto was talking about via Fightful
02:07 Select, on a Q&A podcast with Sean Ross Sapp, he mentioned that he constantly hears about
02:13 trash talking in the AEW Women's locker room.
02:16 Ross also noted that Lufisto was supposed to do more with AEW, but because of a "no
02:21 good situation" that he believes emerged from a ton of miscommunication, those plans
02:25 ended up not happening.
02:27 There have been reports in the past of heat between Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker among
02:30 others, so yeah, it's not looking too great in AEW on the women's side of things right
02:35 now.
02:36 And the same could be said for WWE's Women's Division too, as on last night's Raw we
02:40 seemingly got confirmation that two women's matches are being pulled from Summerslam.
02:44 Becky Lynch vs Trish Stratus instead took place on the show last night, and then a rematch
02:49 was scheduled for two weeks time for their Winnipeg show on Raw, Luke will have more
02:53 details on that shortly in his Raw review, and Rhea Ripley vs Raquel Rodriguez which
02:57 had reportedly been penciled in for the show was seemingly scrapped when Raquel was injured
03:01 by Rhea on the show too.
03:02 There's a chance that match could still happen, but it seems highly unlikely all things
03:07 considered.
03:08 There have been reports that Summerslam was full with their 9 matches, so now it looks
03:12 like there's some more space for other things to take those spots.
03:14 I wonder what they'll be.
03:16 Probably John Cena appearing again to give Detroit a WrestleMania.
03:20 Now over to Luke.
03:22 And now it's time for my review of Monday Night Raw, aka, hot damn those Shayna Ronda
03:26 promos were a great addition of Monday Night Raw, in about 5 minutes.
03:31 The show opened with Logan Paul cutting a promo on Ricochet to really, really great
03:37 heat from this crowd.
03:38 He kept putting over that he was going to make this match go viral, which is very fitting
03:42 to his character but is slightly undermined when the commentators also say it's going
03:46 to be a very viral match.
03:48 Because then it just sounds like the company thinks it's going to be a viral match.
03:51 Ricochet came out to, surprisingly, shake Logan Paul's hand because he knows that
03:57 they're going to put on a viral worthy match.
04:00 Paul then went against this by saying Ricochet's fiancé, ring announcer Samantha Irvin, would
04:04 do the unthinkable when Logan Paul wins.
04:08 She will do her job and announce him as the winner.
04:13 This was clearly too much for Mr. Shay who brawled with Paul and got knocked out by the
04:16 one lucky punch.
04:17 The lame Samantha line aside, this was a decent opening segment.
04:21 Not Cathy interviewed Imperium which set up a match between Ludwig Kaiser and Matt Riddle
04:25 where seemingly Kaiser's position in Imperium would be on the line if he lost.
04:29 Thankfully because this group rules, he in fact did not lose, beating Matt Riddle in
04:33 a hard hitting affair that the crowd lapped up.
04:36 I announce that Cody Rhodes has joined TikTok so you should all go and follow him.
04:40 And while we're on that subject, I've just joined Instagram.
04:43 It's thisisluke.owen.
04:44 So please go there and follow me and feed my needy ego and give me a sense of self-worth
04:52 in the form of a decent follower number.
04:57 The best thing in WWE right now, you heard me Bloodline, got its next chapter when Maxine
05:02 Dupree took on Valhalla in Maxine's first singles match and Sarah Logan's first WWE
05:08 singles match in around three years.
05:10 This was a relatively sloppy affair, but that's also part of the charm as the story is, Maxine
05:14 is learning how to wrestle.
05:16 Remarkably though, most of the sloppiness came from the far more talented and trained
05:19 wrestler Valhalla.
05:21 Maxine hit some arm drags, Otis' Caterpillar and Manami Toyota's Japanese Ocean Cyclone
05:26 suplex into a very nice bridge for the win.
05:29 I'm gutted that these six aren't getting something bigger on the Summerslam card outside
05:33 of Chad being in the Battle Royal, but this angle continues to be tremendous fun.
05:38 Judgment Day cut a promo that covered a lot of the usual groundwork they go over, and
05:42 this brought out Raquel Rodriguez to brawl with Rhea Ripley that was all kinds of great
05:46 until it came to Raquel's selling.
05:50 She bless her, she's not a good actor.
05:54 But this segment did have a PT Williams spotting in it, so it gets 5/5.
05:57 Raquel's acting was way worse in a backstage segment with Adam Pearce, who said she can
06:01 get a shot at Rhea Ripley when she is medically cleared.
06:04 We got two video packages for the Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler feud, which were so great.
06:10 They covered their history in the MMA world, including their mentor/mentee relationship
06:14 on Ultimate Fighter, and quite brilliantly and perfectly painted both of them as the
06:19 babyface and heel of the story.
06:21 Ronda was certainly sympathetic in putting over Shayna, and Baszler was certainly a heel
06:26 because she said she was going to murder Ronda's daughter's mother.
06:29 Which is Ronda.
06:30 But Ronda was also painted as the baddie as they highlighted how the WWE crowd do not
06:35 like her, and Shayna was the babyface by pointing out this very correct statement of fact.
06:41 These were remarkable, and easily the best promo work Ronda has done in her entire WWE
06:47 run.
06:48 And for a feud that wasn't that heated going in, it's become - in my estimation - one
06:53 of the bigger matches on the Summerslam card.
06:56 They'll be fighting under MMA rules at Summerslam, which sounds overly gimmicky, but I'm still
07:00 pretty stoked about it.
07:01 Shinsuke Nakamura and Tommaso Ciampa continue to toil away in the mid-card vortex of getting
07:05 no reactions and short matches with little heat.
07:07 Nakamura won with a handful of tights, and Bronson Reed watched on from backstage.
07:11 This was not as good as it should have been.
07:13 Brock Lesnar cut a promo on Cody Rhodes which brought out the newest star of TikTok.
07:17 Have you followed me on Instagram yet?
07:19 And he shook Brock's hand for what reason I don't know, nor do I particularly care
07:26 at this point.
07:27 But it was weird to do effectively the same angle as the opening one of the show where
07:30 the rivals shake hands and only to brawl instead.
07:34 Because you'll never guess what Cody and Brock did next.
07:38 They only went and bloody brawled didn't they?
07:41 Who could have possibly seen that coming?
07:43 There was also no PT Williams sighting in this segment, so zero out of five.
07:47 But next was, for my money, the best in-ring thing on the show as Chad Gable took on Gunther
07:52 in a five minute challenge.
07:54 Credit to the commentary as well as the wrestlers on this one as they did a great job in getting
07:58 over the desperation of Gunther as he realised he'd underestimated Gable and time was ticking
08:03 away from what he thought was going to be an easy win.
08:05 He locked in the Sleeper with around 40 seconds to go, but Gable wasn't tapping so he beat
08:10 him up and went for the Powerbomb, but Gable reversed and sent him to the outside.
08:14 But time expired and Gable was set to be announced as the winner until Gunther stopped that announcement
08:19 and asked for more time.
08:21 Which means we got more great wrestling and a superb pissed off Gunther finish where he
08:27 chopped the soul out of Chad Gable's body, then chopped that soul back in so he could
08:31 chop it out again and Powerbomb him into the earth for the win.
08:35 This was all superb and I think sets up Gable for an icy program after Drew's match at
08:40 Summerslam.
08:41 Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus are not wrestling at Summerslam, we're actually going to do
08:44 that match here tonight on Raw, but Zoey Stark jumped in to cause the DQ.
08:50 Trish and Zoey left Bexlaying and then told Adam Pearce that, hey, the rematch has happened,
08:54 now it's taking place.
08:55 Pearce instead told her that the rematch will happen in a couple of weeks time when WWE
08:59 is in Canada.
09:00 And the main event saw Sami Zayn and Seth Rollins beat Judgment Day in a fun tag match.
09:04 The finish saw Priest hit the Razor's Edge on Rollins and then realised he could go for
09:08 the cash-in.
09:09 Rollins then handed him the briefcase but with a slight moment of hesitation.
09:12 And it was enough of a hesitation for Rollins to recover and hit the stomp for the win.
09:16 A very creative finish that further teases the issues within the Judgment Day.
09:20 Go Home shows have not been the strongest weapon in the Triple H booking arsenal, but
09:24 this one was actually pretty good.
09:26 It hyped up the key matches for Summerslam and in some cases added more heat that wasn't
09:31 there before.
09:32 So big thumbs up from me, I gave it 4 out of 5.
09:35 That's all from this edition of the WrestleTalk News, why not go and check out myself and
09:38 the other WrestleTalk lads on Board Game Club over on PartsFun known from last week.
09:42 Here's a clip while I check my Instagram follower update.
09:46 Hoho, what are we up to?
