00:00CM Punk getting a new WrestleMania direction, TNA have a huge overhaul, Tempest's review
00:06of AEW Dynamite and more!
00:08I'm Sighty Nyangi on Sighty Day, and this is WrestleTalk News.
00:21We're less than 70 days away from WrestleMania, and currently have one match confirmed, as
00:26Jey Uso will challenge Gunter for the World Heavyweight Championship.
00:30But there's plenty of reports about the other big matches.
00:34Reportedly, Charlotte Flair will challenge Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women's Championship.
00:39John Cena will take on Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship.
00:45And Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and CM Punk will square off in a triple threat match.
00:51But according to WrestleVotes Radio, there are some pushing backstage to shake up that
00:57dynamic.
00:58On their backstage Q&A podcast, WrestleVotes said that there are people within WWE that
01:04would rather move Punk from the Seth and Roman triple threat, and put him in a WWE Championship
01:10match with Cena and Rhodes, and make that the freeway instead.
01:15They add that they don't know if this has been discussed in an official capacity, but
01:20I do know that there are some people who would prefer that.
01:24This comes off the back of Chris Featherstone reporting that the current WrestleMania direction
01:29of Damian Priest vs Drew McIntyre is also possibly going to be shaken up, because of
01:34the online backlash from fans.
01:37However, it should be noted that Fightful Select reported that Ricky Starks joining
01:42NXT rather than the main roster is because the majority of creative heading into WrestleMania
01:48is planned and NXT would be much more fluid working him into the fold.
01:53Speaking of Ricky Starks, and it would appear we can assume he'll be part of this weekend's
01:58NXT Vengeance Day following his surprise debut for the brand this past Tuesday.
02:04And that presumption comes from Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling announcing via Twitter
02:09that due to circumstances beyond our control, Ricky Starks will not be in attendance on
02:14Saturday February 15th at the Tannery Row Ale House.
02:18Saturday 15th is the same day as Vengeance Day in case you guys want to keep in the scores.
02:23NXT's partner promotion TNA also saw what WWE did over the weekend and what AEW did
02:28at the start of the week and thought to themselves, you know what, we need to clear out too.
02:33As they have announced some firings and changes to the TNA management.
02:37Fightful Select and PWInsider report that Josh Matthews and Christy Hemme have been
02:42let go by TNA.
02:43Matthews has been working behind the scenes in the company as a senior producer and director
02:48of digital media.
02:49While Hemme rejoined TNA last fall as the head of marketing.
02:53This appears to have been part of the company's new executive producer George Veras.
03:13George Veras who will be bringing in his own team to fill those roles.
03:17This team will include Mark Brown as the show's new director who used to be the director of
03:22Ring of Honor.
03:23That's good.
03:24Perhaps the biggest name to leave however is Anthony Ciccone who last year replaced Scott
03:29D'Amour as the TNA president.
03:30He will now be replaced by Carlos Silva.
03:33TNA said in a statement, Josh Matthews and Christy Hemme are no longer with the company.
03:38We appreciate their commitment to TNA throughout the years and wish them well in their future
03:43endeavors.
03:44Before we get into the AEW Dynamite review, here's the clip from our most recent Patreon
03:49exclusive episode of TLC where Luke, Sullivan and my guy, the hardest working guy in all
03:55WrestleTalk, Tempest, count down their personal top 10 worst wrestling attires of all time.
04:00Now Tempest, is Bastian Booger on the list?
04:04You mean Jeremy Booger?
04:06He just might be.
04:07And of course, the camera goes on to the black.
04:16Don't mess with trousers, Luke Paul.
04:19Absolutely pillory him online.
04:21I will defend trousers to the day I die.
04:23I won't wear them because I generally hate wearing trousers.
04:27It was annoying that I had to wear them for my wedding day.
04:31Hate trousers wind me up.
04:33I'm so glad you did though.
04:34I hate trousers and I hate shoes.
04:37If I had to go and wear jeans...
04:39That's all you like about Kane!
04:42He wears trousers and shoes!
04:44And it's awesome because it's Kane!
04:45Hello, I'm Tempest and on this fine sat-y day, this is my review of AEW Dynamite, in
04:50about 5 minutes.
04:51After a collision-esque cold open showing our stars of the evening, we had Max Caster's
04:56open challenge and a support WrestleTalk sign.
04:59Thank you, kind citizen.
05:00Pretty unsurprisingly, Max is challenged by One Hangman Page, who after a week of chasing
05:06Max finally caught up to him, like that time that AJ Styles spent a literal week chasing
05:10someone who stole his plaque in TNA.
05:12Max tried to hide amongst fans, but his distinct smell of pure ass gave him away.
05:20Imagine that, even amongst wrestling fans.
05:22Hanger chased him down and after a very brief heat segment, Hangman hit the buckshot for
05:26the win.
05:27Not much to it, but it worked for what it needed to be and tied off the Hangman-Platinum
05:31Max thread from a week ago.
05:32Ricochet said he, like the Philadelphia Eagles, is a winner.
05:36This will be my one and only chance to say that I am Tempest and I approve of this year's
05:39Super Bowl winner.
05:40He, oh my god, I'm wearing the colors too, I just noticed!
05:43He said he's moving on from Swerve, while Swerve was not willing to move on until he
05:48gets an eye for an eye.
05:50Careful Ricochet, Swerve might try and extract your eyeball by pushing it into steel steps.
05:55Has anyone ever been able to explain how that worked at all?
06:00How that made any sense?
06:01And then we had our next match for the AEW Trios titles.
06:04Yeah, they still exist, it's okay, I forgot too.
06:06Undisputed Kingdom took on the Death Riders, and once we got through an early brawl around
06:10ringside, the bad guys got the heat on poor Kyle until it was time for a phenomenal Roddy
06:15Strong hot tag.
06:16It wouldn't last long, however, as the smothering presence of the Death Riders kept our heroes
06:20from capitalizing on any sustained offense, breaking up every pin attempt all the way
06:24to the end when their mayhem and distractions allowed Yuta to low blow Kyle and roll him
06:29up for the win.
06:30It really felt at times that the UK boys, see now that just doesn't feel right, they're
06:33not from here.
06:35But how else can I shorten their names?
06:38It's too wordy.
06:39UK's fine.
06:40No it's not.
06:43It really felt like the formerly known as the UE boys could have won this one.
06:46That wasn't any shorter, and I don't care anymore.
06:48And while I don't know if a win for them would have fit what the Death Riders are doing
06:52narratively, it probably would have breathed some life into these comatose belts.
06:57Danny Garcia in 2.0 prevented the Death Riders from doing any more damage, but then cut backstage
07:02and an angry Jon Moxley getting jumped by Cope wearing his Canadian uniform, I see you
07:07my brother, and Jay White, who stole the briefcase from Marina Shafir.
07:11MJF cut a brief promo about his match with Dustin Rhodes before he was interrupted by
07:15Hangman F***ing Page, we're almost there ladies and gentlemen.
07:20We had a very fun squash match between a bunch of lads and the trio of Hook, Shibata and
07:24Samoa Joe.
07:25All of this goes to show that I do think this trio's division would thrive with some
07:29new champs, because why are these dudes not strapped up right now?
07:33They won after all getting a chance to kick ass with the match culminating with Samoa
07:36Joe going head to head with his longtime rival John Cruz of internet wrestling fame and hitting
07:42the Muscle Buster for the win.
07:44After the match, Samoa Joe dubbed his trio the Ops and challenged the Patriarchy to a
07:48trio's match next week.
07:50Chris Jericho was backstage and challenged Bandido to a showdown in the ring tonight,
07:54and Will O'Nightingale was going to be interviewed backstage, but was taken out by Marina Shafir
07:58so Jon Moxley could commandeer the time and say that Cope is a dead man walking.
08:03You've done it, you've done it now.
08:08Chris Jericho and Bandido then squared off in the ring, and as per usual Jericho saw
08:12someone do something cool and had to get that Jericho stank all over it.
08:16They also went to do the duel that Brian Keith and Bandido did on Collision, but they turned
08:22the lights down, they hit a spotlight, there was sound effects, it was so much less organic
08:26and so much less cool.
08:29Boo!
08:30F*** that guy.
08:32This time, rather than both hitting a running move like they did on Collision, Brian Keith
08:36and Chris Jericho took out Bandido together until the outrunners made the save with Big
08:40Bill trying to collect the bounty only to be spine busted by Powerhouse Hobbs.
08:45I didn't get much out of this one to be honest.
08:47All that happened has been done before, and we didn't even get to see Bandido do anything
08:51cool.
08:52Make sure you watch his Collision match with Brian Keith though.
08:55Cope and Jay are backstage with the briefcase and said if Mox wants it back, he just has
08:59to meet them in the ring at the end of the night.
09:01Dustin Rhodes was then backstage and said he's about to show MJF why he's the last
09:06of his kind, bitch.
09:08Has no one told him that someone else says bitch?
09:12Like famously so?
09:14Like it's been kind of his thing for almost a year now?
09:17It'd be like if Bob Holly just started telling people to suck it in 1999.
09:21It's Britney, bitch!
09:24We then had MJF vs. Dustin Rhodes, and immediately MJF endeared himself to the crowd by doing
09:29the famous Horns Down sign, which is apparently the worst thing you can do in Texas.
09:34MJF hit a running teabag, which is something that I haven't seen since the last time I
09:37played God in 2009.
09:39Wait a minute.
09:40Wait wait wait.
09:41That was probably him too.
09:42WE'RE GONNA GET HIM BACK IN THE STUDIO, I'M GONNA SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT.
09:45Max mocked the Goldust pose, which he got powerbombed for, to which Max responded by
09:50doing the Homer Simpson spinning cell.
09:54Dustin and Max traded attempts at Dustin's finishers before Max finally transitioned
09:58into the Salt of the Earth and then a crossface as Dustin passed out for the finish.
10:02A lot of simple tit for tat, what you can do, I can do better storytelling in this match,
10:07and I think it accomplished everything it set out to do.
10:10MJF would disagree, however, and would continue his assault on Dustin, only for Hangman Page
10:15to make the save and start the first bit of physicality in this new feud.
10:20Hangman and the Devil, baby, it's on!
10:23They crowd brawled, they got separated, Max said Hangman was a gutless coward, and we
10:27went again.
10:29Eventually we went to commercial and it was announced next week we would get an official
10:32face to face, and I could not be more excited.
10:35Next we had Megan Bayne taking on Maya World, and I just need to get off my chest that every
10:40time I see Megan Bayne, every cell in my body wants to yell MEG BAYNE!
10:45And I just don't think I can hold it in anymore.
10:47The only way around that is if I just call her Bayne, and that doesn't help either.
10:52I mean, she is a big girl.
10:54For you.
10:55F*** OFF BAYNE!
10:56Anyway, she won with the F5 after showing off her power.
10:59On her way to the back, she crossed paths with Kris Statlander, and ooh, that is a match
11:04that I would very much like to see, but wait, hang on a minute, does that mean back to back
11:09women's matches on Dynamite?
11:12Have the planets aligned?
11:14Yes indeed, Kris Stat took on Penelope Ford, who I thought looked great here, as this match
11:19was obviously more competitive than the last one.
11:22But indeed, Kris Stat hit Wednesday Night Fever for the win, until McBane returned to
11:28hit an F5 on the floor, and maybe we won't have to wait long to get this match, which
11:32is a little bit surprising given what was set up on Collision, but tantalizing nonetheless.
11:37She then had a Puppet Mercedes music video where Harley Cameron can RAP, too!
11:42She's the most talented woman in the world, and the best female rapper from Australia.
11:45I don't actually know that much about the subject, but this is just my way of saying
11:48she's more talented than Iggy Azalea.
11:50Harley cut her own song short to cut a very earnest promo, where she just casually dropped
11:55that she can speak Chinese.
11:56Bro, she's so talented, I've run out of shocked being.
12:00She said she doesn't want to ride the Monet train, she wants to drive it, and that at
12:04Grand Slam, Mercedes will feel the wrath.
12:07Then we had our AEW tag title match between The Guns and The Hurt Syndicate.
12:11Battle of the 10 out of 10 theme songs, right there.
12:14As with Private Party, The Guns could only muster up short bursts of offense, and their
12:18most impressive spots were avoiding damage rather than inflicting it.
12:22In time, they were overwhelmed and beaten decisively.
12:25I tell ya, I'm not getting tired of this any time soon.
12:28The crowds are into it, the matches are heated, this act is a winner.
12:32Cage and Archer came out onto the stage, and that sounds like a very spicy matchup if that
12:36is indeed what is next.
12:38Mariah May said that everything Tony has done, she has done better, and she probably does
12:42love Tony, because at Grand Slam, there's gonna be a mercy killing.
12:46Then we had our main event angle as Cope and Jay threatened to smash the briefcase with
12:51Spike the Nail Board if Mox didn't accept Cope's challenge for Revolution.
12:56He eventually did, and Cope smashed the briefcase anyway.
12:59What a dastardly babyface.
13:00The Death Riders ran in for the save of the briefcase, which led to Claudio and Wheeler
13:04eating Blade Runners, and Mox and Pac eating Spears.
13:08As a main event segment, I thought this was alright.
13:10I still don't love the direction we're on, but we actually progressed the story
13:14this week, and all the action was dynamic and engaging.
13:17Overall, another pretty f***ing solid episode of Dynamite, I must say.
13:22Word on the street is that Tony Khan has taken a bit more control over the book in recent
13:25weeks, and I don't know, but I do think there has been a marked improvement in the
13:30last four AEW shows.
13:32This show didn't have the classic matches that last week had, but it was still highly
13:36entertaining throughout.
13:37This episode of Dynamite gets a 4 out of 5.
13:39But while you're getting ready to check out the brand new exclusive Patreon episode
13:43of TLC, check out this past episode, where we're joined by the undisputed Rev Pro British
13:50Heavyweight Champion Michael Oku to talk about the very best WWE Elimination Chamber matches
13:55ever.
