00:00 The A-List Podcast is brought to you by FanDuel, the exclusive wedgering partner of the CLNS
00:05 Media Network.
00:06 Welcome.
00:07 Thank you for listening.
00:08 Joining in to the A-List Podcast, I'm Kwanye Lunas, joined by A-Shara Blakely and Gary
00:15 Washburn.
00:16 And Gary has been annoyed already in the past few minutes because Shara and I are really
00:20 excited about this Barbie movie and Gary is just clearly not in the Barbie spirit, which
00:25 is very disappointing.
00:26 Are there any black people in it?
00:27 Are they like...
00:28 Yes.
00:29 Who are the black people in it?
00:30 Lisa Ray.
00:31 Who?
00:32 Lisa Ray?
00:33 Gary, this is the most diver...
00:34 Lisa who?
00:35 This is the most diver...
00:36 Oh, see, don't act like you don't know that.
00:37 I didn't know there was a Barbie movie coming out.
00:38 I honestly did not know.
00:39 Okay, there's no way in this day and age you didn't have not seen a Barbie commercial
00:48 on a billboard.
00:49 I've seen a lot of Barbie, I've seen people, but I did not know there was actually a movie
00:54 with a plot and a kin and a dream house.
00:59 I didn't know none of that.
01:00 This is the most diverse Barbie movie ever.
01:03 Ever.
01:04 Ever.
01:05 Ever.
01:06 It is...
01:07 I mean, there's like...
01:08 Has there ever been a Barbie movie?
01:09 Probably.
01:10 I don't think so, actually.
01:11 But I wouldn't know because I would never watch them until they went down this path.
01:16 Okay.
01:17 I even got my pink headphones.
01:20 My students in my class this summer at Boston University, we'd spend a lot of time talking
01:25 about the Barbie movie, different stories that you could develop off the Barbie movie.
01:28 And so what did they do at the end of the class?
01:30 They got me a Barbie.
01:31 Aw.
01:32 They got me a Barbie.
01:33 You love them.
01:34 And Gary, next time you come to my office, Gary, you will see it.
01:37 It'll be right next to the other stuff I got hanging out on the wall.
01:42 Can't wait.
01:43 But there is no kin.
01:44 Yeah, there's no kin.
01:46 I'm waiting for them to come out with Kendrick.
01:48 When they bring Kendrick, that's when we got something to talk about.
01:52 I'm not down with kin.
01:53 I want to see Kendrick up in that bad boy.
01:56 It's actually really funny because if we're going by stereotypes, I'm sure most of our
01:59 audience are like, "Why are they talking about Barbie right now?"
02:02 But you know what?
02:03 You're still listening, so we appreciate you for that.
02:06 We'll talk about Jalen Brown now.
02:08 On to Jalen Brown.
02:10 Here we go.
02:11 A smooth transition into Jalen Brown from the Barbie conversation.
02:15 But he's yet to sign that Supermax extension.
02:17 Could be worth over $304 million.
02:21 He would end up being the biggest paid NBA player, at least in history, with that contract.
02:27 But are you two concerned over the fact that this has, one, not gone down yet, but two,
02:32 the fact that we keep getting reports of like, "Oh, Jalen's busy," and like, "Oh, they're
02:36 working on it," and it seems as though just nuggets are being dropped, but no action is
02:41 actually being put behind it yet.
02:43 Well, Gary, you saw him more recently than I did, so what's your take on that?
02:49 I'm not concerned because I just think it's a deal that needs to be negotiated, and Jalen
02:55 is in Spain right now for a Players Association kind of event.
03:02 Now this is the...
03:04 It hasn't really been written about, so this is a situation where he goes to Spain with
03:08 other players and they work on their own games.
03:11 Like, this is a camp for themselves.
03:13 Like, they go...
03:15 It's like, you know, players go to Vegas to work out.
03:17 Players go to other, you know, city, LA, to get runs.
03:21 The Players Association set up like a trip where these got their players, some players
03:27 who are interested can go to Spain and work on their skills.
03:31 So this is not just Jalen doing camps or vacationing.
03:35 This is a business trip for Jalen that I think is going to stay a couple of extra days.
03:41 I know it ends on Friday.
03:43 Sorry, the 22nd.
03:45 Something like that.
03:47 22nd of Saturday.
03:49 The second day.
03:51 Yeah.
03:52 And then he's going to stay a few extra days to do some camps with kids and that and kind
03:59 of do the philanthropy thing.
04:02 So this is a trip for him.
04:04 It's not just him.
04:05 Oh, I know y'all trying to negotiate my deal, but I'm trying to go on vacation right now.
04:10 No.
04:11 This is a kind of a this is a opportunity for him to work on his game, to go to Spain,
04:18 to see some different things.
04:19 But also this is kind of a business trip.
04:21 So I don't think fans should be like, oh, Jason Jalen Einstein is dealing with inside.
04:27 He's just going to go on a vacation.
04:29 Like this has been pre planned for a while now.
04:33 He went last year, too.
04:34 So, you know, he is gone and there's members of the Players Association going with him,
04:39 other players.
04:40 I'm not as concerned.
04:43 You'd like to get it done ASAP when he gets back, closes deal, do a nice press conference,
04:49 have Jalen say, hey, I'm glad to be here and I want to be here for the rest of my career
04:53 and move forward, because I think the Celtics need some good news right now.
04:58 Losing Grant, losing Marcus.
05:00 And there's, you know, when Malcolm still probably a little salty about being kind of
05:06 dangled for trade and not going through.
05:08 And now it's like, oh, now you're a point guard.
05:11 And then, you know, what about some other moves that might be made?
05:14 I'm the only happy person that he says he got that extension.
05:18 Yeah, like that's it.
05:19 Like some of these some good news.
05:21 And I need to make this happen to get, you know, forget all the oh, we want him back.
05:27 And this is going to work out, make it happen.
05:30 Get this deal done.
05:31 Have a nice press conference and keep it moving and try to add to the roster during
05:38 the next couple of weeks.
05:41 And so I think Celtic fans are a little uneasy about not only Jalen, but just losing Grant
05:46 and losing Marcus Smart.
05:48 So this needs to happen.
05:50 But I am not concerned like Jalen's like deuces.
05:53 I'm going on vacation.
05:54 This was something that's been planned for a long time.
05:58 And I think, you know, we all know Jalen, he wants to be there for these negotiations.
06:02 He's not going to be like, oh, like this, you know, let my handle this.
06:06 That's not that's not his style.
06:07 So I'm not as concerned as you would think, considering I think they're going to get this
06:14 deal done.
06:15 Well, here's the thing.
06:19 I'm not ready to hit what I like to call the Kyle Draper panic button.
06:22 I'm ready to go there.
06:24 But I am concerned I'm only concerned because the opportunity to get this deal done was
06:29 there when he was in Vegas.
06:30 He could easily him and his agent and his Celtic sat down, work something out, get it
06:35 done, have a little mini press conference in Vegas, and then take it back to Spain and
06:40 do all this stuff that you already had planned.
06:43 And to me, as long as this deal isn't done, I'm going to have a level of concern.
06:48 It's not very high, because I agree with you.
06:49 I think it will get done.
06:51 But I think it's not going to be as smooth and easy breezy as people think.
06:56 There are the Celtics.
06:57 If you're the Celtics, you're certainly going to try to put in some escalators that are
07:01 contingent upon him meeting certain metric marks that incentives that he may not necessarily
07:06 want to be incentives.
07:07 You may want a certain number to be guaranteed money in and the Celts may have a different
07:11 number in mind as far as what's fully guaranteed.
07:14 Those are some of the things that I would like for them to have started to iron out
07:17 in Vegas so that if they didn't get the deal done, they can just say, "Okay, we started.
07:22 We've made a little progress on this area now.
07:24 We've still got one, two, three, four to work out.
07:26 We'll do that when you get back from Spain.
07:28 Have a nice time.
07:29 Adios."
07:30 All of this stuff.
07:31 And come back from Spain and just get it done.
07:34 But now it seems that when he comes back, they're starting from not only say ground
07:39 zero, but pretty damn close to ground zero to getting this thing done.
07:42 And I hope that they start when he gets back.
07:44 I hope they don't wait till he started trading camp and try to get something done because
07:49 they do have a lot of time to work this out.
07:52 But I think the sooner they start hammering away at this thing, the sooner they're going
07:55 to get the deal done.
07:56 But until they start doing that, Gary, I'm going to have a little bit of concern about
08:01 this because I know that things that are supposed to be a certain way and seem like no brainers,
08:08 it can twist real quick.
08:10 Things can get funky.
08:12 And as you pointed out, Jaylen is a smart dude and he's definitely going to be involved
08:16 in the process.
08:17 And I would not be shocked if there's certain things that he wants to be guaranteed or he
08:22 wants certain assurances that the Southies are like, "Damn, JB, we love you, boy.
08:28 But damn, I don't know about that one.
08:30 What if we do this?"
08:32 And I think that there has to be the back and forth discourse.
08:34 And I just don't think they have invested enough in that just yet.
08:38 They will eventually.
08:39 But I think I'm like most fans.
08:41 I want them to just get it done.
08:42 I mean, no one's going to offer you more money.
08:44 And this is going to be the richest contract any player has ever had in NBA history.
08:48 It's kind of a big deal.
08:49 So I understand why if you're Jaylen, you're being patient because you want to make sure
08:53 you just get this thing right.
08:55 But I also have to be mindful of the fact that at the end of the day, your brick is
08:59 going to be bigger than anyone's brick who's ever gotten a brick in the NBA.
09:04 You are literally becoming basically the blueprint, the template, if you will, for getting paid
09:10 in the NBA.
09:11 And the craziest part about all of this, and I know this is the part that Celtics fans
09:15 are a little bit queasy about, you're the second best player on the squad and you're
09:20 getting the biggest check, the biggest chip that anyone financially has gotten ever.
09:26 Ever.
09:27 So again, the sooner I think he gets this deal done, the sooner we can go through all
09:33 that.
09:34 He's not worth that money, which I think is bogus because you never get what you work
09:36 to get what you negotiate.
09:38 People forget that.
09:39 Especially when it comes to pro ballers.
09:41 But I would hope that he would try to get this done in an expedient manner, time.
09:47 And whether that is when he gets back from Spain, whether it's at the training camp,
09:51 we don't know.
09:52 But I'm hoping he'll get it done fairly soon.
09:55 When regular people negotiate their salary, there are a lot of factors that you write
09:59 down for a normal job.
10:02 So with Jaylen Brown specifically, do you guys think that his value beyond being a baller
10:07 should be factored in to the contract?
10:10 Absolutely.
10:11 I think that that has to be a factor that you at least consider because let's be honest
10:16 and let's keep it real.
10:17 One of the brightest young stars in the NBA is some cat named John Moran.
10:21 Now he's getting the big break and he deserves a big break for what he does on the court.
10:26 But the stuff he does off the court is problematic for him.
10:30 It's problematic for the organization.
10:32 It's problematic for the NBA.
10:34 And with a guy like Jaylen, you not lose a sleep over what this cat does when he's off
10:38 the court.
10:39 He's been here long enough where you have a-
10:41 He's probably at MIT.
10:42 Yeah.
10:43 I mean, he's probably looking at some spreadsheet.
10:46 I can create more wealth for me or for these young people.
10:50 That's just who he is.
10:51 And Tatum, again, we're not talking about him too much, but he's in a similar boat as
10:55 far as real low, just not a lot of drama with them.
11:01 And so to me, you have to think about that when you're offering this kind of money, because
11:04 the last thing you want to do is put all that money in some kid's pocket.
11:07 And next thing you know, he's doing the John Moran.
11:12 He's doing the John Moran.
11:13 You don't want to do that.
11:14 That's a good point.
11:15 Gary, what do you think?
11:18 These are your hiring goals, they say.
11:20 They're very aggressive, but when everyone looks to you, you're calm.
11:23 Why?
11:24 Because you know you don't need a miracle.
11:26 You need Indeed.
11:27 Indeed is a hiring platform where you can attract, interview, and hire all in one place
11:32 instead of spending hours on multiple job sites searching for candidates with the right
11:36 skills.
11:37 Indeed is a powerful hiring platform that can help you do it all.
11:41 They streamline hiring with powerful tools that can help you find your match candidates.

12:09 on Indeed, fit the job description immediately after you post so that you can hire faster.

12:41 Claim your $75 credit right now at Indeed.com/alist.
12:46 Once again, Indeed.com/alist and show that support by saying you heard this on podcast.
12:53 Indeed.com/alist.
12:55 Terms and conditions apply.
12:57 Need to hire?
12:58 You need Indeed.
13:01 I think there's going to be a lot of things in there to negotiate.
13:04 Like, what about a no-trade clause, right?
13:09 How long would you give a no-trade clause throughout the entire contract?
13:13 Player options, team options, incentives, all of the above have to be worked out to
13:19 where Jaylen can probably maximize it, but also have incentives to where it's like, "Okay,
13:25 this is how much you get if you win the MVP.
13:27 This is how much you get if we make the finals.
13:29 This is how much you get if we win the finals."
13:32 All those things have to be considered in terms of a major contract like this because
13:37 now you're putting $300 million in the hands of one man and you want to win championships,
13:45 right?
13:46 Hell yeah, you want to win championships.
13:47 Plural, not singular.
13:50 Plural, not singular, Gary.
13:53 You want to give him incentive to where he has incentive to make All-NBA again, All-NBA
14:02 First Team, All-Defensive Team.
14:04 Do you want to throw that in there?
14:07 All these things, you want to make sure that he has money on the line, right?
14:12 True.
14:14 Some of those incentives he's not going to reach, but I think you do try to lay it with
14:20 incentives to where he does have incentives to improve as a player because we all know
14:24 Jaylen needs to improve.
14:25 Jaylen needs to get to that next level.
14:27 He's top 20.
14:28 I mean, he made All-NBA, so you could say top 15, but I think he fell off a bit after
14:35 his playoff performance in terms of maybe his status.
14:39 Obviously, that game seven, the eight turnovers and coming up, one of the tougher games of
14:43 his career.
14:44 That's the last we've seen of Jaylen, right?
14:46 That's the latest.
14:48 That's the last thing on his resume is eight turnovers.
14:51 When Jason got hurt, you couldn't carry the load and keep the team in the game.
14:56 I think they're going to need to lay it with incentives and make sure that the Celtics
14:59 come out okay on this too.
15:02 Not here, Jaylen.
15:03 Here's $304 million or $295 million.
15:05 Here's $59 million a year.
15:08 Maybe you're going to make as much as $67 or $68 million in the final year of that deal
15:13 because it's going to be layered.
15:15 No problem.
15:17 It's straight up money.
15:20 You want to give him incentives.
15:22 Now the Jason negotiation, I'm sure, will be much easier because there will be less
15:26 incentives.
15:27 Jason's reached a lot of those, but you want to give Jason some incentives too eventually,
15:32 right?
15:33 MVP, things like that.
15:36 I think, and you also take into account that the man Jaylen is off the floor, a positive
15:42 role model, what he's doing.
15:44 You want to make sure he's in Boston long-term.
15:46 If this is the guy you want, this is the guy, quite honestly, that you invest in.
15:54 You drafted him.
15:55 He's homegrown.
15:56 He's had his issues with Boston or whatever.
15:59 Now you talk to him about that.
16:01 You might want to, the team has a lot of assets and a lot of helpful people around the organization,
16:08 outside of the organization.
16:09 "Hey, Jaylen, you want to buy a house here.
16:12 You want to invest in this.
16:13 You want to be," eventually, Jaylen might want to invest in a WNBA team.
16:18 Now NBA players can do that.
16:22 You can invest in certain things.
16:24 You can invest in, there's a level, a small percentage of sports betting you can invest
16:28 in.
16:29 The CBA has a lot of options for the players to be more partners.
16:33 That was the theme of this new CBA, having talked to the Player Association President,
16:39 Tamika Chamalgo, was like, "We want to be partners."
16:44 That's what she said.
16:45 "We want to be partners, not employees."
16:47 I think a lot of this new CBA has an opportunity for these players to be partners.
16:51 Do you throw some of those incentives in there?
16:55 When you retire, Jaylen, do you want to be part of the partners?
16:57 There could be a lot of things to deal with.
17:02 That's why I think this negotiation is a little bit more difficult than just straight, "Hey,
17:06 here's $250 million.
17:07 Hey, here's $300 million, straight up money.
17:11 Be ready for training camp."
17:12 I think that there's a lot going on in Jaylen's head.
17:17 The fact that his family's hanging out, his brother was sitting with the Celtics folks
17:22 during the summer league, I don't see no issues with Jaylen mad at the Celtics.
17:27 Jaylen's mad right now.
17:28 Jaylen doesn't want to be around.
17:29 His brother was hanging with Mike Zarin on the sideline at a Celtics summer league game,
17:36 the second one, when they lost to Washington.
17:38 They were hanging out, sitting on court side.
17:42 If that was an issue, Jaylen's brother wouldn't be hanging out with the Celtics folks.
17:49 I think we're fine, but I also think that it needs to get done when he gets back.
17:55 Don't let this bleed into August and all that.
17:58 Just get this done.
18:00 Let the pardon thing and the littler thing be the NBA news.
18:03 The Celtics want to stay out the news right now.
18:06 Unless they're doing something positive, signing somebody.
18:08 With this thing, get up out the news.
18:11 All right, let's pivot and talk to the other Jay on this team, Jason Tatum.
18:16 He's living his best summer life right now.
18:19 He was at the Drake concert at TD Garden.
18:21 I love that Sherrod put in our rundown that we're going to talk about the girl that fell
18:24 down the stairs.
18:25 What happened?
18:26 I didn't see that.
18:27 The captain said she literally fell for Tatum.
18:33 That's not really funny though.
18:35 She's literally ... As soon as they called Tatum out and everyone's going crazy, crazy,
18:38 crazy, and then someone is in the stands who literally ... Back when you were a little
18:43 kid and you were in the ... Well, Gary don't know about this because he was on West Coast.
18:46 He don't know about that snow thing.
18:47 He don't know about-
18:48 Oh, like sledding?
18:49 Yes.
18:50 She literally slid like she was on a sled down the stairs, Gary.
18:53 Gary, I'm glad that she wasn't hurt because I would have felt really bad for laughing
19:00 my ass off when I saw that video if she was hurt.
19:03 Apparently she was not seriously hurt.
19:06 Again, Tatum is just ... He's like that dude now.
19:12 He's that dude.
19:13 He's that dude that you look at his life on the court, you look at his life off the court,
19:18 you got Drake bringing you up on stage.
19:19 That shows what Drake does with pretty much any NBA city he goes to.
19:22 Whoever the best player is in that city, he's bringing them on stage.
19:26 I'm curious to see what he would do if he goes to Denver though.
19:28 Is Yogi going to get that kind of love?
19:29 I don't know.
19:30 Another story another day.
19:31 Anyway, bottom line is this.
19:33 Tatum is living the greatest life that Jason Tatum can live.
19:38 I'm excited for him.
19:40 I'm happy to see that kid happy.
19:41 I didn't know if he could get to the point where he could be outwardly happy about life.
19:46 I remember the first couple of years in the league.
19:48 He was just quiet.
19:49 Yeah, he was quiet, stoic, didn't really seem like ... He was giving you 20 years in chains
19:54 and he didn't really seem like he was enjoying giving you 20 in chains, but now he's giving
19:57 you 30.
19:58 He's giving you 30.
19:59 A big three O-piece.
20:00 He's got stuff in his life that's just incredibly awesome for him to have.
20:06 We don't do celebrity gossip, but we're going to do celebrity gossip.
20:09 Yes, he was with Ella Mai.
20:11 That's not gossip.
20:12 He's been together for a while, right?
20:16 I know.
20:17 It's funny because people whisper about it.
20:20 Fans, they see the pictures and they're like, "Oh my God, are they together?"
20:24 We can confirm on A-List Podcast that they have definitely been together on various occasions,
20:30 including publicly at Jay-Z's event.
20:32 I love the fact ... He's comfortable.
20:35 I was hoping he'd get to the point where he would be just comfortable being who he is
20:38 and being accepted for what he brings to the table, that kind of stuff.
20:44 Do you think that at this point he's shed the Only 19 title?
20:49 Is it finally over?
20:50 Is it dead?
20:51 Is he an adult now?
20:52 Is he a grown-ass man now, Gary Wexler?
20:53 Is he ready?
20:54 Is he a grown-ass man now?
20:55 He's grown.
20:56 He's grown.
20:57 I didn't know Ella Mai's 28, so I didn't know she was older than he is.
21:03 Gary just did his hood research, y'all.
21:05 FYI, Gary just did his hood research.
21:07 We need a hood research graphic.
21:09 Exactly.
21:10 We need to have the hood research file.
21:13 Yeah, we need a hood research team because-
21:16 Yeah, we do.
21:17 But okay.
21:18 Let's get that graphic that went across that hood research presented by-
21:22 We need a sponsor for that.
21:23 Wrap Snacks.
21:24 Let's get them one of-
21:25 Get it going, Quanie.
21:26 I got you.
21:27 We need a ... If you're listening to this and you work somewhere where y'all are willing
21:31 to sponsor, hit us up.
21:33 Don't hit me up.
21:34 Hit up Sherrod or someone.
21:35 Hood Snack.
21:36 Hood Snack.
21:37 Yeah.
21:38 Here we go.
21:39 Blow Sherrod's phone up.
21:40 Some of that hood research, Gary, you're right.
21:41 She is 28 years old.
21:42 Okay.
21:43 It's a few years.
21:44 No, not too bad.
21:45 Ella Bernard.
21:46 She's not-
21:47 Ella Bernard.
21:48 ... robbing the cradle.
21:49 All right.
21:50 Oh, we know ... We're going to talk about the Sixers for a second, which is probably maybe,
21:57 I would say, one of the more hated teams for Celtics fans.
22:02 Then we're going to talk about the team they hate the most, probably because I actually
22:06 talked to their star player on Monday.
22:11 We'll get to that.
22:12 That's what they call it, TVT.
22:13 Let's talk about the Clippers.
22:15 James Harden, Clippers.
22:17 Do you guys think they'll get done?
22:18 Let's start with that NBA rumor first, actually.
22:21 Yes.
22:22 Dissect the Sixers.
22:24 I think it'll get done.
22:25 I think they'll find a way to make it happen because the way that players have been the
22:30 last couple of years, basically, when they say where they want to go, those teams find
22:35 a way to make it happen, more times than not.
22:38 I don't like the idea of players forcing their way out of town, especially when they force
22:42 their way into the damn town that they're leaving, the way Harden did.
22:48 It's just not working out.
22:50 But what?
22:51 Now you're going to go to LA and all of a sudden it's going to be better?
22:55 I just don't know if that's going to work.
22:58 Clippers will find a way to make it work, though.
23:00 I just don't think once he gets there, it'll work.
23:04 I think, I don't know what the allure now, because I think it's declining quickly of
23:12 James Harden on your basketball team.
23:15 It hasn't worked in the last many places.
23:18 It didn't work in Brooklyn, he asked out.
23:21 Now it's not working in Philadelphia.
23:23 So the Clippers, it's going, you know, suddenly it's going to work.
23:27 And maybe he'll, I think he'll become, you know, if it happens and he plays with Kawhi,
23:34 Kawhi, Kawhi Lunas.
23:37 My auto-correct counterpart on iPhone.
23:43 He stole my initials too, K.L.
23:46 The low management dude, and Paul George.
23:51 You know, it all depends on who else is on that team.
23:53 I think it'll be, you know, I think he'll be unselfish and I think he'll understand
23:58 that he has to be, you know, he has to be a certain way.
24:03 He can't be selfish James, Houston James.
24:06 But I don't know what the Clippers, like, what will it take?
24:10 The Clippers are not going to give up on Kawhi.
24:14 They don't want to give up on either young players.
24:16 So what is it?
24:17 Like Marcus Morris and Robert Covington and Norman Powell?
24:22 Like Philadelphia is going to be good with that?
24:24 No.
24:25 So it just makes it all the more difficult when you demand a trade, you force your team
24:29 to have to execute this trade because you don't, we all know what James is going to
24:34 do if he ain't happy somewhere.
24:35 He's going to be partying a lot.
24:37 Then he's going to show up looking like, you know, looking like Fred Flintstone or something.
24:46 Like it's a training camp.
24:48 Marty Rubble, Tom Hull, okay, I'm ready to hoop.
24:52 Let me put this Subway sandwich down and he's going to be, he's going to be, you're going
25:04 to have too many of them Shiraz shakes.
25:09 Too many of them Shiraz shakes.
25:11 It's just going to be, we all know what's going to happen.
25:13 So it forces Darryl Moore to have to make a trade, but the Clippers are like, well,
25:20 if we know he wants to be here, why should we give up a prime package for him when he's
25:27 going to act a fool if he stays, so we can't get him out of there.
25:31 The same thing, potentially with Portland and Miami, where you demand a trade to one
25:36 damn team and that don't help you execute the trade.
25:41 Take your first swing at betting MLB on FanDuel and get 10 times your first bet amount in

26:13 So sign up today and visit FanDuel.com/Boston to get up to $200 in bonus bets.
26:19 That's FanDuel.com/Boston.
26:20 FanDuel, official partner of Major League Baseball.
26:29 You got to keep that down low.
26:32 You can't tell the world I want to play for Miami.
26:34 That's all I want to play for.
26:35 I want to play for Boston.
26:36 I want to play for Milwaukee.
26:37 I want to play for Miami.
26:38 And the same thing, I want to play for the Clippers.
26:44 Okay, Clippers.
26:46 What happens?
26:48 So I just think it just makes it all the more difficult.
26:51 So I'm going to be fascinated to see what this deal would be like, where what would
26:57 the Clippers be willing to give up?
26:59 Because they're not giving up Kawhi or Paul.
27:03 And then you have the large shadow of Joel Embiid going, "Well, okay, what are you getting
27:11 back for this dude?
27:12 Because I'm trying to win a championship.
27:15 You ain't going to get back no spare parts in a couple of first round picks."
27:18 First round picks ain't helping me right now.
27:21 So Marcus Morris at age 33, 34 ain't helping me.
27:27 And Norman Powell, as good as he is, that's not helping me right now when it's shit.
27:33 So I think it's really complicated because he has put them in a corner.
27:38 And the Clippers are like, "Well, we ain't giving up Terrence Mann.
27:41 We ain't giving up Brandon Boston.
27:43 We ain't giving up none of our young dudes.
27:46 Nope.
27:47 We'll give up.
27:48 This is what we're going to give up.
27:49 And we'll wait."
27:50 So this thing could last into the summer, throughout the summer, into training camp.
27:56 And James Madd, James didn't like the way -- I mean, if I hear one more thing about
28:00 James being upset about something, like not winning games, and then acting like he was
28:05 Desmond Tutu last year by giving up money on his contract.
28:09 Oh, here we go.
28:10 I knew Gary was going to do it.
28:12 We got another Gary rant.
28:13 The sacrifice that you made for his team.
28:14 The sacrifice that James made for his team.
28:15 The sacrifice that James made for his team.
28:16 Oh my gosh.
28:17 Nobel Peace Prize.
28:18 We need a new segment.
28:20 We need a new segment called Gary Rants, and we give him two minutes to rant about something.
28:26 Oh, I could have made more money like James.
28:30 You could have.
28:31 You're 34 years old.
28:32 You're 34 years old.
28:33 You're 34 years old.
28:34 Your stock is low.
28:35 I mean, he complained -- Russell Westbrook just signed for two years and $8 million after
28:44 making $47 million last year.
28:47 So Russell Westbrook, who some would argue is a more effective player than James Harden.
28:53 He's better than James right now?
28:54 You think he's better than James right now?
28:55 No.
28:56 Okay.
28:57 He's not.
28:58 He's not.
28:59 He's not.
29:00 He took a $43 million pay cut, and you tripping about making $36?
29:03 So Russ should get the Nobel Peace Prize.
29:06 Not James.
29:07 Russ.
29:08 Yes.
29:09 Yes.
29:10 We should bring Russ.
29:11 Get these multimillionaires peace prize for leaving money on the table.
29:17 Whenever NABJ gets to LA, we will give Russ a Pioneer Award for a pay cut.
29:23 For the sacrifice he's made.
29:25 We're going to give Russ a Pioneer Award.
29:31 To me, I'm just tired of hearing about Harden's unhappiness.
29:35 You ain't got no championships.
29:38 You got one MVP from a few years ago.
29:41 You did not show up in Game 7 against the Celtics.
29:43 You did not show up in Game 6 against the Celtics.
29:47 What are we talking about here?
29:50 That's the thing.
29:52 It's holding up the league.
29:53 Now you want to play for the Clippers.
29:57 That's going to work.
29:58 You think Ty Lue is like, "Oh, bring on James Harden.
30:01 All the prizes he done had over the years, and he's touching the Clippers.
30:05 All the injuries."
30:06 You think Ty Lue can't wait to coach Harden?
30:14 It's crazy.
30:15 I guess because of his skill set and his player empowerment, it's just strange, crazy
30:28 coming off the non-show in Game 7.
30:30 He mad.
30:31 What you got to be mad about, bro?
30:34 What'd you do?
30:35 Who messed you up, James?
30:38 You made $38 million last year.
30:41 Sacrifice.
30:42 The sacrifice of that pain.
30:43 I'm getting a little gold, man.
30:44 You doing me wrong.
30:45 Like, what?
30:46 It's insane.
30:47 Our league.
30:48 I love covering this league.
30:49 There was no league like it.
30:55 We just saw in the NFL, five productive running backs not get paid.
31:00 Josh Jacobs, my man for the Giants, Saquon Barkley.
31:05 The team's just like, "Yeah, you run for 1,800 yards and 44 touchdowns last year, but we
31:11 ain't paying you jack.
31:12 We ain't signing you no."
31:13 You know what I'm saying with this?
31:14 And then Harden at 36 is acting like he Nelson Mandela?
31:15 He brought it to the- Like, come on.
31:16 What's going on here?
31:17 Well, it also appears that another person that should have been trusting the process
31:30 may not trust in it anymore.
31:32 Joel Embiid told Interrupted Sports Film Festival, he's talking to Matt Carter, and he said,
31:39 "I just want to win a championship.
31:41 Whatever it takes.
31:42 I don't know where that's going to be, whether it's Philly or anywhere else.
31:45 He just wants to have a chance to accomplish that."
31:48 His contract, he has to opt in by June 29, 2026, but now the talks are, should someone
31:56 else be interested in him?
31:57 Because why is he so willing to ... It sounds like he's ready to go as well.
32:03 Listen, that's called a warning shot for the six of the organization that, "Look, I'll
32:10 win a championship here.
32:12 I'll win it elsewhere.
32:13 If y'all can't get it done, basically you need to put the right players around me."
32:17 And not the best players, the right players.
32:19 And there's a clear distinction between the two.
32:21 James Harden is one of the best players that Joel Embiid will ever play with.
32:24 But did anyone outside of the Philadelphia area code think that that duo will lead them
32:29 to a championship?
32:30 Hell no.
32:31 No.
32:32 I don't think anyone in the area code thought that either.
32:36 No.
32:37 But the point is this though, they did not put the right pieces around him.
32:41 And you just wonder, even though if they made a trade with the Clippers, they would absolutely
32:45 lose the deal in terms of talent, they might win the deal because they might be able to
32:49 get better pieces that pair better with Joel Embiid.
32:53 He may not like it, but if he's willing to give it one shot, which I'm not sure he's
32:57 willing to do, you never know what'll happen.
33:00 I would love a guy like Terrence Mann in Philly.
33:03 I think he'd be a great fit.
33:05 I think he could be the Philadelphia's version of Bruce Brown, when Bruce Brown was in Denver.
33:11 Guy that does a lot of things really well, doesn't do anything exceptional other than
33:17 just doing lots of different things.
33:19 So they can make that work.
33:22 I think they could absolutely make it work.
33:23 But I don't trust Philadelphia's brain trust enough to do the right thing.
33:27 I don't trust, because you know, I mean, Darryl Moore, let's be honest and be real, he likes
33:31 nice shiny toys.
33:33 Even if those toys don't look well or play well with the toys he's got.
33:38 And so he's not, I don't think he buys into the concept necessarily of getting guys who
33:42 are good fits for his core.
33:44 He likes to get the absolute best talent and think that the talent alone is going to get
33:50 the job done, which we've seen time and time and time again in Philly, that's not going
33:54 to work.
33:55 Like Barbie dolls.
33:56 Nice.
33:57 There you go.
33:58 Like Barbie dolls, yeah.
33:59 Let's be honest.
34:00 Like Darryl Moore, how many teams has he led to a championship?
34:06 Same as I have.
34:07 How many teams in the finals?
34:08 Same as me.
34:09 Cero.
34:10 Cero for you Spanish speaking people.
34:11 Cero.
34:12 Same as me.
34:13 So I've got Gary to speak Spanish.
34:14 I'm not sure.
34:15 Adios mio.
34:16 Adios mio.
34:17 I'm not sure like why he still has a job.
34:30 Like why did he fire Doc?
34:32 It's Doc fault.
34:33 Oh, okay.
34:34 It's Doc fault.
34:37 It's just amazing.
34:39 The gall, this Philadelphia, it just smells like I would like if I'm a Sixer fan, I'd
34:44 be just like, what the heck is going on?
34:47 The center won out.
34:48 The point guard now won out.
34:51 The general managers acting like he didn't like, like he read our back.
34:57 He got no championships, no finals appearances.
35:01 You know, he had like, he had, he had, he had, he had Riley in the eighties, you know,
35:06 running a team like, and it's just like, you have no credentials, no, no credibility in
35:11 terms of like putting together a championship team.
35:14 And then you bring James Harden in and somehow, cause that's your bud.
35:18 That's the guy, your guy.
35:19 Now your guy, ain't your guy anymore.
35:21 This is amazing.
35:22 This whole thing.
35:23 I mean, this NBA, it's what makes it fun, but it is insane.
35:30 The gall of some of these guys and what they do.
35:34 And there is no good guy in this.
35:36 You feel bad for Darryl Morey?
35:39 No, you sort of feel bad for him being, being, I doubt it.
35:44 Now he's tried, tried to make it work with Ben Simmons.
35:48 That didn't work, you know, but now, and then look at, look at, look at what James did to
35:53 my man, PJ Tucker.
35:55 Bring, you know, come on, man.
35:57 I got you.
35:58 We going, we going to run this one year.
36:00 He out.
36:01 See you PJ.
36:02 That's like, that's like saying, Hey, move into my neighborhood, move into my neighborhood.
36:07 As you got the moving van.
36:08 I'm moving.
36:09 You called the moving truck.
36:10 Hey, the moving truck, you moved in, I'm going to use it to move back out.
36:16 Can I borrow your boxes?
36:18 Yeah, what's your, what's your movers number?
36:21 It's amazing.
36:22 But like, good luck to all the parties involved.
36:33 No shade, no shade, no shade.
36:40 James Harden in a clipper uniform, but please don't tell me don't, you can't, I can be
36:52 asked over.

38:38 No, especially with a coach like Ty.
38:41 Cause like Ty is Ty's a big no.
38:44 Yeah.
38:45 And Ty wants guys who actually, you know, want to show up and play.
38:48 And Ty is not, he is not beneath him to put you on blast.
38:53 Respectfully, no shame at the fact that you came to training camp 17 pounds over your
39:01 overweight from your last stop.
39:02 But you know what?
39:03 No shame.
39:04 No shame.
39:05 Yeah.
39:06 Yeah.
39:07 That's your boy.
39:08 Moving to the final, the final chapter of this episode.
39:12 Steph Curry, you've heard of him.
39:15 Four time NBA champ.
39:17 Just beat the Celtics in 2022.
39:19 He is underrated because that's the name of his film.
39:23 Coming out Friday, I had a chance to talk to him actually on Monday.
39:27 I was in New York city for a junket and it was very, I will say, I know that you guys
39:32 are probably Steph haters, not you guys, the listeners, but the film was very inspiring.
39:38 It's basically about his time at Davidson and really honed in on the underrated aspect
39:43 of him being physically small, playing at a small college and obviously them making
39:48 that NCAA tournament run and really putting Davidson on the map.
39:52 And of course, Steph would go on to do better things in the NBA, but I thought it was a
39:56 pretty good film.
39:57 So I just wanted to one brag about the fact that I talked to him.
40:03 No, but also point out that it was his story really is inspiring when you break it down
40:08 and it's like, Oh wow, there's still much more to be written.
40:11 But of course I asked him about like Boston being related to his NBA legacy because that's
40:16 something that we very much will think about when we look, eventually look back on the
40:21 career that Steph has had so far.
40:23 So it was interesting.
40:24 20.
40:25 Yeah.
40:26 Do you play spades?
40:27 No, I don't know how to play actually, which is unfortunate.
40:30 Why?
40:31 That is unfortunate because what you did was basically you laid down like an ace of clubs
40:35 and you're feeling good about winning a hand.
40:38 I'm hitting you with the two of spades because not only did I talk to Steph already about
40:44 the movie, I too saw a preview of it when it was at the film festival out in Utah and
40:49 I wrote about that.
40:50 So you, that was a good hand you played.
40:53 I didn't even read the article.
40:56 Dang.
40:57 Gary, is the spade analogy, that's accurate, isn't it Gary?
41:01 Come on.
41:02 That rounds.
41:03 The spade, that's an accurate analogy.
41:06 She came with the ace of clubs.
41:07 I hit her with the two of spades.
41:08 Yeah.
41:09 I thought I was cool for like 30 seconds.
41:12 You were cool for 30 seconds.
41:13 Did I hit you with that deuce of spades girl?
41:15 Listen, you're right.
41:16 But one is right though about the movie.
41:18 It is a good movie.
41:19 And I would encourage people to see it because it is inspirational.
41:23 Steph is, I mean, this is the thing about Steph.
41:26 The more I talk to him, he's that dude that you love to hate because that doesn't really
41:32 seem anything bad with him.
41:34 I mean, he's a great baller.
41:37 He's redefined the game in ways no one else has done or ever will do.
41:40 He's got a lovely wife, beautiful family.
41:42 A great golfer.
41:44 And he's doing his holes in ones.
41:47 You know, I think the shot that he hit to win it was an, I can't remember.
41:52 It's the ACC but not the Atlantic Coast Conference.
41:55 Basically, the shot that he hit to win it.
41:57 The American Century Championship.
41:58 Thank you.
41:59 The shot that he hit to win it.
42:00 Long wish I was people.
42:01 The ACC.
42:02 Yeah, he won the Atlantic Coast Conference.
42:03 I said it's ACC but not the Atlantic Coast Conference.
42:04 He couldn't even play in the ACC when he was a player.
42:05 He couldn't even play in the tournament.
42:06 That's true.
42:07 But the shot that he hit to win the tournament was basically like a deep three in basketball.
42:17 It was that type of golf shot.
42:19 So he's just so freaking like flawless in so many aspects of his life that you're just
42:25 like, God, I can't stand you.
42:26 It ain't right.
42:27 And love you at the same time.
42:30 Much respect for Steph.
42:31 Absolutely.
42:32 And even if you are a diehard Celtics fan, you have to respect Steph.
42:37 You have to respect the game.
42:38 Even if you don't like his team, even if you don't like his teammates, you've got to respect
42:42 the man and what he does on the court.
42:44 And to be candid with what he does and what he doesn't do off the court.
42:47 That's true.
42:48 So maybe props to Steph Curry.
42:49 Wait, but if I added that I talked to Ryan Coogler, how would you feel?
42:53 Okay, then you get that.
42:54 I'll let you get that one.
42:55 No, the only reason I bring that up though.
42:56 We got to teach Pony how to play spades.
43:00 I do because I want to play and win and another black card because it's...
43:05 I just don't want to be your partner when you first learn how to play.
43:08 Yeah, it's okay.
43:09 I don't blame you.
43:10 I know how competitive spades are.
43:11 You know what I'm saying, Gary?
43:12 No, I know what you're saying.
43:13 It's okay.
43:14 Let's just throw me under the bus here.
43:17 We're friends, but spades is different.
43:20 It's so different.
43:21 Friendship, what?
43:22 I don't know.
43:23 Bragging rights, money, usually a lot of things are on the line.
43:26 I'm not trying to get you...
43:27 For sure.
43:28 Yeah.
43:29 For sure.
43:30 We're not doing that.
43:31 For sure.
43:32 Yeah, but all that to say, we're ending the episode on a...
43:33 Talking about a Warriors player.
43:34 What do I got?
43:35 Anything Celtics related to close out?
43:39 I was able to watch the part two of the Will Chamberlain.
43:45 It's on Showtime now, so you can watch parts, but we saw the...
43:50 On last Thursday in Vegas, saw the premiere of the part two.
43:54 Gary said, "I'm not the only one with an exclusive."
43:58 No.
43:59 Kevin Garnett was there, Glenn "Big Baby" Davis, Tracy McGrady.
44:06 So it was good to see.
44:11 For those who only know Will with the records, and I know a lot...
44:16 This new generation doesn't know a lot about Will, just knows he set every damn record,
44:21 and everybody's trying to break all of his records.
44:24 It's a very good...
44:25 It's worth the three hours.
44:27 I think it's three parts, about an hour each.
44:30 Just learning about the man, especially for an African-American community, what he was
44:36 able to do, and how he was the first seven-footer, really comfortable in his own skin.
44:42 He was Shaq before Shaq, in terms of trends, styles, all of the above.
44:49 So fascinating story, fascinating man.
44:53 Unfortunately, he died before Will...
44:55 Died in '99, before social media took off, before he could really...
44:59 He got his flowers, but before he could really get his flowers like Bill Russell did.
45:04 Bill Russell obviously died last year.
45:14 It's...
45:15 How do I put this?
45:20 Bill was able to get his flowers, show the appreciation from the current players, and
45:24 Will didn't really as much get his love from the current generation, because if he had
45:30 lived longer, he would have definitely gotten his flowers.
45:34 I think that it's...
45:36 So it's worth watching.
45:39 Kevin Garnett helped produce it, and he's in it, and talking about his influence, being
45:46 influenced by Will Chamberlain.
45:48 So it is good to see KG do things like that, get into the film industry now, and touch
45:57 people with some of the stories, not only of himself, but of others.
46:03 It's good to see KG.
46:04 We always ask KG, "What you gonna do when it's all over, and you're finished playing?"
46:09 He's putting that same passion that he had on the court into the film industry, and doing
46:14 stuff with Showtime, and obviously the podcast with our man Paul Pierce.
46:18 That is...
46:19 Look, love it.
46:21 The stories that they drop in that?
46:24 What?
46:25 So yeah, that was a good experience to check that out.
46:32 And so yeah, definitely if folks wanna check that out, learn more about Will, 'cause I
46:38 think that we know him as a name, and you see the pictures, and you see the...
46:44 Maybe some faint highlights or whatever, and you think, "Oh, he lost all those championships
46:48 to Russell," but much...
46:51 Or you unfortunately think of the number 20,000, and you think of Will Chamberlain.
46:57 What you talking about, Gary?
47:00 I'll let y'all figure out what that means, but...
47:03 Why you gotta bring that number up?
47:04 Is that part of your hood research?
47:05 No, that's...
47:06 Is that part of...
47:07 No, no.
47:08 It's a lot more to Will, and things I learned, him being a real champion for women's sports
47:17 in the 1970s, where...
47:20 And I knew that he was kinda into volleyball and that type of thing, but after he retired,
47:26 he became a real champion for a lot of great female athletes that we've heard about, and
47:33 so worth watching.
47:37 So if you are a subscriber of this podcast, here are some suggestions of things to watch,
47:45 but make sure you continue to watch us as well.
47:48 That's a wrap on this week's episode.
47:50 Y'all look so confused with my setup.
47:52 It's okay.
47:53 A'Seara Blakely, Gary Washer, and I'm Pony Lunas.
47:56 We appreciate y'all listening to the A-List Podcast.
47:58 We'll be back next week.
47:59 Thank you for listening.
