00:18 It's Mimi here today and I'm super super excited today to show you one of my favorite hairstyles
00:23 for spring/summer 2014.
00:25 I saw this look on Dolce & Gabbana runway months ago and I was like "Oh my god I can't
00:31 wait to do it" so I was waiting and waiting till spring comes around so it's appropriate
00:35 to do this hairstyle.
00:37 So this hairstyle I'm talking about is a very soft braided chignon that is so beautiful
00:42 and romantic.
00:43 I think it's absolutely perfect for any occasions.
00:46 You can kind of glam it up for you know a wedding or a party or you can just do the
00:50 soft chignon part without the glam and it would be just perfect hairstyle for work or
00:54 school or anything.
00:55 Ok let's just get into it because I could talk for hours and hours.
00:59 Let's get into what we're going to need for this hairstyle.
01:02 One of the things we're going to need for this hairstyle is a curling iron, half an
01:06 inch, one and a half?
01:08 I'll be using half an inch curling wand so you can use whatever you have.
01:12 The smaller I think is the better because we're going for more softer smaller curls.
01:17 Another thing we're going to need is a hairspray.
01:19 We're going to need a teasing brush.
01:22 I'm definitely going to be using some embellished sort of glammed up hair bands because that's
01:27 what they had on the runway on the models.
01:30 We're going to need some bobby pins and a hair elastic.
01:35 Let's begin.
01:36 Alright so the first thing I'm going to do is part my hair in the middle.
01:40 That's what they did for the models on the runway and I think that kind of creates a
01:44 more classic look.
01:47 Ok before I go into the tutorial I just have to tell you I just loved all the clothes on
01:52 the runway.
01:53 The show was so beautiful.
01:54 You know the woman that was portrayed on the runway is a very confident, feminine yet powerful
01:59 woman and that's kind of how I aspire to be every day.
02:03 That's why it resonated with me so much.
02:05 So ok let's get into the hairstyle now.
02:08 So what I'm going to do is just split my hair in the middle.
02:10 Can you tell I'm excited?
02:14 So just go with a brush, draw a straight line.
02:17 It doesn't need to be perfect.
02:20 And then when you're happy with it then it's good enough.
02:24 Ok once I split my hair in the middle I'm just going to decide which parts I'm going
02:30 to curl.
02:31 So we're only going to curl probably the front, maybe these parts.
02:35 The rest of the hair can stay in the back and then I'm going to bring this to the front
02:39 and I'm going to curl it as well.
02:41 Ok so I'm going to start curling the front of my hair.
02:44 It's really easy.
02:45 I'm just going to grab the curling iron and I'm going to curl it away from my face.
02:49 So I'm just going to wrap the hair around, hold it for a few seconds and then just release.
02:59 When it comes to my bangs I'm not going to curl it all the way from the top.
03:02 I'm going to start kind of here in the middle of this hair and then just curl it away.
03:16 And then just release as well.
03:18 And then I'm going to do the exact same thing on my right side.
03:20 So as you can see I'm only, you know maybe I'll curl one more section actually here.
03:27 Alright so the left side is done and now I'm going to do the same thing on my right side.
03:33 And again we're curling it away from the face.
03:39 Ok once I've curled the hair I'm just going to quickly spray it with some hairspray.
03:44 Now I'm actually going to run my fingers through the hair that's been curled just to soften
03:49 it up a little bit.
03:51 And that part is kind of finished.
03:53 So now on to the back.
03:55 I'm probably going to turn around so you guys can see what I'm doing in the back.
03:57 So pretty much all I'm going to be doing first, actually before I do that, alright one more
04:02 step before I do that is I'm actually going to go here and brush this hair in the back.
04:08 Just you know leave a little bit of the middle parting in the front and then brush the rest
04:12 back.
04:14 And then I'm just going to tease it.
04:15 I mean this step is optional but I prefer to tease it because I think it just adds a
04:20 more dramatic effect to the whole hairstyle when you have a little bit of an oomph here
04:24 you know.
04:25 You know what I'm talking about?
04:28 Alright so just grab the hair, take your teasing brush and go in there and just go up and down.
04:35 And I might just spray it a little bit so that it stays in place.
04:42 And I'm just going to grab some hair on the sides and do the exact same thing.
04:47 And then do the exact same thing on the left side.
04:51 And then when you're done just brush everything out.
04:54 Just softly brush it out in the back.
04:57 Okay now we're ready to braid.
04:59 I'm going to turn around now to show what I'm doing in the back.
05:02 All I'm doing in the back is a regular three strand braid.
05:05 So I'm just going to start braiding it and braid it all the way down.
05:10 And then I'm just going to secure the ends of the braid at the bottom.
05:14 Next step is I'm going to go back to this braid and I'm going to slowly pull on sections
05:18 of hair just to make it appear a little bit bigger and looser.
05:22 So I'm just fanning out sections of the braid.
05:27 And then I'm going to turn around again and show you how to pin this braid in a chignon.
05:32 So the next thing I'm going to do is just grab this braid.
05:35 I'm going to roll the ends of this braid.
05:37 And then I'm going to take this braided bun, lay it flat against my head and just fan out
05:43 sections of this braid and start pinning it in place with bobby pins.
05:55 Now I'm going to go back into my crown and just poof it out a little, add a little more
05:59 volume.
06:00 So I'm just going into it with my fork and pulling.
06:03 This is not an actual fork by the way.
06:06 And just pulling the strands out without messing the whole hairstyle.
06:11 So just do it very carefully.
06:14 So the next step will be adding accessories.
06:17 What they did mostly for the models on the runway is they had a lot of different accessories
06:21 on their head.
06:22 They had flowers, they had coins, they had different embellished, you know, hair clips.
06:28 I just have these two that I'm going to be using today because I want to go for a look
06:32 that's more classy and understated.
06:33 So what I'm going to do with this is I'm going to take one of them and I'm going to go from
06:38 the back.
06:39 So I'm going to wear it kind of upside down.
06:42 And then this one is going to go here.
06:45 So it's going to be two, kind of intertwining.
06:48 Anyways, I'll show you.
06:50 You'll be able to get what I'm saying when I show you.
06:52 So I'm going to start with the one in the back first.
06:55 So all I'm doing is I'm taking this and I'm going from the back.
06:58 I'm just going to wear it.
07:02 I'm just going to check it in the front and fix it.
07:07 Brush it out.
07:09 And the last step, I'm going to take the second headband and I'm just going to put it all
07:12 over the elastic and then secure it under the braided bun, the braided chignon.
07:23 And the very last step of this hairstyle is you can go ahead and pin your bangs in the
07:27 back or pin the front section of your hair in the back or you can just let them loose,
07:31 which I'm probably going to do because I prefer it this way.
07:34 And the hairstyle is finished.
07:37 All right, so that's it for this hairstyle.
