00:00:38 - In 2 Peter,
00:00:41 in 2 Peter chapter one,
00:00:46 and we've come a long way,
00:00:51 and I must, I must
00:00:53 complete this particular section
00:00:59 before we go on to all of the hoop
00:01:02 and all of the holler and screaming
00:01:04 and music and all of that,
00:01:07 behind the preaching, you know,
00:01:09 all of the ethnicity that goes with preaching
00:01:13 in our neighborhood.
00:01:14 But this is so important because it speaks to us
00:01:21 of what is permanent in the individual.
00:01:27 And if you go with me again to 2 Peter,
00:01:32 we have come to the word patience,
00:01:33 but for those who have not been cognizant
00:01:36 of what we were doing,
00:01:37 according as verse three,
00:01:40 according as his divine power have given unto us
00:01:44 all things that pertain unto life and godliness,
00:01:49 through the knowledge of him that has called us
00:01:54 to glory and virtue,
00:01:58 whereby are given unto us exceeding great promises
00:02:02 and precious promises,
00:02:04 that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature.
00:02:09 Now again, if I may interrupt the reading,
00:02:16 the significance of receiving the gifts of God
00:02:22 and having been blessed, bless you,
00:02:27 having been blessed by his gifts,
00:02:30 is primarily for those things that pertain to this life.
00:02:35 Give thought to the fact that even though
00:02:41 Lazarus was raised from the dead,
00:02:44 Lazarus died again, amen.
00:02:51 And even though there are gifts of healings
00:02:54 and people are healed,
00:02:56 you've been healed from many things,
00:02:59 but you're still nervous about being sick again.
00:03:04 There are certain things that happen in life,
00:03:10 no matter how rich you get,
00:03:12 you can't take any of it with you.
00:03:14 And so when it comes to operating within the parameters
00:03:19 of those things that are significant to God,
00:03:22 he deals with us from what he calls the more excellent way.
00:03:29 So after he has taken us through
00:03:32 all of the administrative gifts of the spirit
00:03:34 that operate for the body of Christ,
00:03:37 as that body lives here,
00:03:40 he speaks to something that is more excellent
00:03:45 and more permanent because it involves his nature.
00:03:50 And whenever you operate within the parameters of his nature
00:03:57 you're not dealing with something
00:03:58 that's ephemeral or temporal,
00:04:02 you're dealing with something that lasts into eternity.
00:04:05 If I may very carefully go through this,
00:04:08 when God created man,
00:04:11 he made it in his image and in his likeness.
00:04:16 He created him out of what he created.
00:04:21 He created man out of what he created
00:04:25 because man of course was formed
00:04:28 out of the dust of the ground
00:04:31 and it is God who created the ground.
00:04:34 So he forms man out of something that he created,
00:04:38 which means that the creation had a beginning
00:04:43 and anything that has a beginning will have an ending.
00:04:49 He created him out of this ground
00:04:52 and formed him into his image.
00:04:54 So even though Adam is before Jesus,
00:04:58 Jesus is known as the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
00:05:03 So even though Adam preceded Jesus in terms of time,
00:05:09 Jesus is the design out of which Adam was made,
00:05:16 formed him out of the dust of the ground,
00:05:19 he formed it out of something that is ephemeral.
00:05:23 Because it's ephemeral and sin came into the world,
00:05:27 it needs healing.
00:05:29 Because it's ephemeral and sin came into the world,
00:05:32 you need finance.
00:05:35 Because it's ephemeral, sin came into the world,
00:05:38 you need protection from your physicality
00:05:41 and you can be born with all kinds of DNA,
00:05:46 might I say, aborations.
00:05:52 You can be all kinds of negative things
00:05:55 because sin entered the world
00:05:57 and the attack can only be to your body.
00:06:01 And then man is in his image and in his likeness,
00:06:06 but man lost his likeness when sin entered.
00:06:12 So even though man is in his image,
00:06:16 his corporeality is designed in a body
00:06:21 his corporeality is designed in a body,
00:06:23 then God turned around and in that image,
00:06:26 he breathed into him the breath of life,
00:06:30 which means he breathed something into man that is eternal.
00:06:35 Because if he breathes a part of himself into you,
00:06:39 then you become eternal.
00:06:40 Now man becomes a living soul.
00:06:45 So the living soul then is comprised of
00:06:51 body, soul, and spirit.
00:06:54 It is the spirit of God that breathes into that corporeality
00:06:59 or that panoply of flesh, a part of himself.
00:07:03 Now when man lost that, it becomes necessary
00:07:08 for us to become partakers again of the divine nature.
00:07:13 Because when sin came, he said,
00:07:17 "In the day thou eatest, thou shalt surely die."
00:07:20 He didn't die physically.
00:07:22 Adam actually lived to be 930 years old,
00:07:26 but he died that day spiritually.
00:07:30 So this whole process of salvation
00:07:33 is now moving you from the gifts of the spirit
00:07:38 that everybody's so excited about
00:07:40 into the fruit of the spirit,
00:07:44 which now makes you a divine partaker of his nature.
00:07:50 It is his nature that's lacking in man.
00:07:54 It is not our intellectual cognitive energy,
00:07:59 our creative ability that's lacking.
00:08:01 We're moving now to AI.
00:08:03 And what folk are scared about
00:08:08 is that the AI might take us all out.
00:08:16 So here is man in the brilliance of his mind
00:08:20 with a nature that is nefarious.
00:08:25 I wonder why you aren't as beautiful as your brilliance.
00:08:31 This is the problem with man.
00:08:43 So we take our intellectuality, our creativity,
00:08:48 and we make weapons of mass destruction.
00:08:53 Why would you make a weapon of mass destruction?
00:08:59 Who you gonna kill?
00:09:00 You're gonna kill somebody who is in the image of God.
00:09:06 You're gonna enslave somebody who is in the image of God.
00:09:12 You're going to mistreat somebody who is in the image of God
00:09:15 and you use your God-given creativity
00:09:20 to make weapons that are so destructive
00:09:24 that you'll annihilate your brother and your sister
00:09:30 out of the creativity God gave you
00:09:34 because even though you take God's creativity,
00:09:39 you have the attitude of the devil.
00:09:42 Oh yes.
00:09:46 So consequently, when we move into this realm,
00:09:50 we're moving into a realm that I just can't walk away from
00:09:53 without completing because every one of us need to know
00:09:58 how we should be as human beings.
00:10:03 And once we get that right,
00:10:07 it doesn't matter what you have or what you don't have.
00:10:10 You will operate within the parameters of that divine nature
00:10:15 and treat your brother the way God would have you
00:10:18 to treat your brother.
00:10:20 And when I say this and with all the dancing
00:10:27 and all the wonderful things we just had a while ago,
00:10:29 I'm glad I don't read, I don't look at,
00:10:32 what's that thing, social media.
00:10:35 'Cause they gonna have a blast with me today.
00:10:37 I know I'm gonna have a good, y'all can read it,
00:10:39 have a good time and tell me what they said,
00:10:42 but it ain't gonna bother me 'cause I ain't gonna read.
00:10:45 The significance of this is that if man,
00:10:52 let me just give you an example, a very quick example.
00:10:58 The beauty of the Constitution or their Constitution,
00:11:01 whoever's it is, is that they came from
00:11:06 the feudal system in Europe.
00:11:11 They came from the domination of the lords
00:11:17 and they came from the place where they were just chattel.
00:11:22 Yeah, where the majority of people
00:11:26 were totally insignificant.
00:11:28 One of the things that democracy does or should do,
00:11:32 and I'm telling you right now,
00:11:34 that the zeal for power and the zest for capitalism
00:11:39 is going to destroy democracy.
00:11:42 Because democracy is to even the playing field.
00:11:48 And that is that people ought to govern
00:11:52 because of the people.
00:11:55 Yes, isn't it government by the people for the people?
00:11:59 Is that what it is?
00:12:01 Well, 90%, no, I'm being a little generous, hyperbole.
00:12:06 70 plus percent of Americans want the government
00:12:13 to do something with the guns.
00:12:18 When the forefathers were putting together the Constitution
00:12:22 and they were saying everybody ought to have a gun
00:12:25 because they wanted to get rid of that feudal system
00:12:28 and they didn't want anybody coming over here,
00:12:31 the British dominating again and putting us
00:12:33 in a situation where we can't defend ourselves
00:12:35 to get them off our back.
00:12:37 Because they ran from the feudal system,
00:12:40 they came over here and they said,
00:12:41 "All men are created equal."
00:12:43 Why did they say that?
00:12:45 Because they weren't treated equal across the pond.
00:12:50 You had a few percent of the folk
00:12:52 who controlled everything else.
00:12:56 I did a research the other day,
00:12:57 I was doing a speech somewhere,
00:12:59 and I did a research that up to just before World War II,
00:13:04 just before World War II in the 1930s,
00:13:08 you had 455,000 Britons who were the lords
00:13:13 who controlled the rest of the country.
00:13:19 You had 455,000 of 1.8 million people
00:13:24 who controlled 25% of 1.6 billion people in the world.
00:13:30 The English Empire alone controlled 25%
00:13:39 of the then world of 1.8 billion people.
00:13:45 25%.
00:13:47 When I simmered it down,
00:13:50 I discovered that 25% of the world was owned by one nation,
00:13:55 and it wasn't the whole nation,
00:13:59 it was just the elite in that nation.
00:14:03 And that means they had control of the resources
00:14:07 of 25% of the world,
00:14:10 and that means they had 1,085 people serving one of them.
00:14:16 White supremacy is not going to go away.
00:14:21 In America today, if you think it's changed,
00:14:25 10% of Americans own 89% of the U.S.
00:14:33 Take away the period behind the U,
00:14:38 and take away the period behind the S,
00:14:42 and what do you have?
00:14:43 (audience laughing)
00:14:46 Now consider then the violence in your community.
00:14:53 Consider the violence that's happening in the world.
00:14:58 Just give some consideration to the fact
00:15:01 that now you've got 90% of the population
00:15:05 to deal with 10% of the resources.
00:15:12 And you think God intended that?
00:15:13 Do you think that God did not know
00:15:17 we would have 6 billion people in the world?
00:15:20 And do you think he's incapable
00:15:24 of providing for 6 billion people?
00:15:27 Oh, the problem is not God.
00:15:29 The problem is when he made man and gave him dominion,
00:15:33 and man became so narcissistic and so egomaniacal
00:15:38 until 10% of the people in the world
00:15:40 wanna control everything that's in it,
00:15:43 and they don't care about the rest of the folk
00:15:46 that's in the world, so 70% of Americans can say,
00:15:50 we want somebody to check on who it is
00:15:52 that we're giving these guns to.
00:15:54 But the elitists who are getting money from the NRA
00:16:01 will not do it.
00:16:05 So all of a sudden you have people in power
00:16:09 who should be governing for you,
00:16:12 who don't care a thing about you
00:16:15 until it's time for them to be elected.
00:16:20 Uh-huh, and if you keep on watching,
00:16:22 what they're gonna do is they're gonna fix the election
00:16:25 so that only the elite can get in
00:16:28 because they discovered that a few black people in Atlanta,
00:16:32 a few black people in Pennsylvania,
00:16:34 a few black people in New York,
00:16:37 a few black people in LA,
00:16:39 a few black people in some of these states
00:16:41 that are swing states can change a whole election.
00:16:46 So if you think they're gonna sit there
00:16:48 and allow that to happen,
00:16:49 what they'll do is they'll marry gender
00:16:52 so that your vote don't count.
00:16:57 Why am I saying all this?
00:17:02 It's just to go to show you
00:17:05 that you can give a man God's creative ability,
00:17:10 but if he doesn't have God's spirit and attitude,
00:17:14 he'll take all that God has given him
00:17:18 and enslave his brother.
00:17:20 Do you know that human trafficking
00:17:22 is making more money now than drugs?
00:17:25 So here's when I tell my sisters,
00:17:30 don't you pull up in the mall
00:17:32 beside some kind of van that ain't got no windows in it.
00:17:36 Amen, amen.
00:17:43 And I turn off the lights,
00:17:45 I'll turn off the car
00:17:47 if you stop getting gas in the middle of the night.
00:17:50 I'll sit at home and just turn the car off
00:17:53 right in the driveway, just boom.
00:17:55 See, you ain't going nowhere to get no gas in the car
00:18:01 unless it's daylight.
00:18:02 You ain't got no business getting gas, you ladies,
00:18:06 in a car at night somewhere.
00:18:09 Amen, let that car sit there until your husband gets home
00:18:12 or until your significant other or whoever it is
00:18:15 go get the gas for you.
00:18:19 Because you pull up today, you're snatched,
00:18:21 and we don't know where you are,
00:18:23 who has taken you,
00:18:25 and you somewhere across the water
00:18:27 slave to somebody, sex slave or working slave,
00:18:32 because man will use his creativity,
00:18:35 but he lives like the devil.
00:18:38 And God is saying,
00:18:42 now that I've brought you out of darkness
00:18:44 into this marvelous light,
00:18:45 don't only look for my gifts,
00:18:48 try to be like me,
00:18:50 so that when I bless you with gifts,
00:18:53 you'll know how to treat the people around you
00:18:56 and not act as if you're the cat's meow
00:18:58 and the dog's bow wow all by yourself
00:19:01 with the big I and the little you.
00:19:03 The problems why marriages don't work
00:19:05 is because individuals want to have it their way
00:19:08 in spite of who else is in the house with them.
00:19:11 Have you ever considered asking your husband,
00:19:14 can I turn the heat up, baby?
00:19:25 (sighing)
00:19:26 Don't let me get on that.
00:19:27 Partakers of the divine nature,
00:19:35 having escaped the corruption
00:19:39 that is in the world through lust,
00:19:43 and beside this giving all diligence
00:19:45 that to your faith,
00:19:46 virtue to virtue knowledge,
00:19:48 to knowledge temperance,
00:19:49 to temperance patience,
00:19:50 to patience godliness,
00:19:51 to godliness brotherly kindness,
00:19:53 and to brotherly kindness charity.
00:19:55 While I was away,
00:19:56 I was meditating on this verse,
00:19:58 and I found something that I will share.
00:20:01 We have now come to patience.
00:20:04 We have come to temperance really,
00:20:06 and temperance as we forestated
00:20:08 is that self-control,
00:20:10 and primarily to the Greeks,
00:20:13 it was that ability to control
00:20:16 your sexual appetite that was first.
00:20:22 The indication is that
00:20:25 if you can control yourself
00:20:30 in every aspect of your life
00:20:35 and be temperate
00:20:36 in what it is you indulge in,
00:20:41 it not only preserves life,
00:20:45 but it lengthens life,
00:20:48 and it gives you more time to enjoy
00:20:51 than being excessive in anything.
00:20:54 One of the difficulties is,
00:20:57 all right, you like chocolate,
00:20:59 but you can't eat chocolate every day.
00:21:04 Amen.
00:21:11 When I was in Longview,
00:21:15 they would ask me to come and pray.
00:21:17 I don't visit the houses anymore.
00:21:19 I guess that maybe I should,
00:21:21 and I would go to the kitchen,
00:21:24 and the mothers would ask me to come pray,
00:21:27 and I'd go to the kitchen,
00:21:29 and the lard would be in the pot.
00:21:31 And it would be hard as you can be.
00:21:38 Now, there is something in life that I have learned.
00:21:43 I didn't say I practice it.
00:21:44 (congregation laughing)
00:21:49 But this is what I've learned.
00:21:50 I've learned that whatever you put in a refrigerator
00:21:55 that gels,
00:21:59 you shouldn't eat.
00:22:01 Now, you're growing up,
00:22:06 and you're being told,
00:22:07 "Heat it up, baby, heat it up,"
00:22:10 and you heat it up to 30-something degrees.
00:22:12 You know the hog moths and the pig feet?
00:22:16 If you leave the pig feet right in there,
00:22:18 you have to pull it up out of there,
00:22:20 and when you pull it up out of there,
00:22:21 there's a whole lot of fat hanging on like that.
00:22:24 (congregation laughing)
00:22:27 I like cold chicken.
00:22:33 I like it cold.
00:22:34 My mama say, "Heat it up, baby, heat it up."
00:22:39 You gotta heat it up
00:22:41 because you gotta loose that grease
00:22:44 that's in them lamb chops and them pork chops
00:22:50 because them pork chops,
00:22:51 they settle in that pot,
00:22:53 and they dare you to come pull me up without fire.
00:22:55 You better put some fire on me,
00:22:57 or you can't get me up out of here.
00:22:59 Now, give some consideration.
00:23:02 You gotta heat it up to 300-plus degrees to loosen it up,
00:23:07 but your body ain't that hot.
00:23:09 (congregation laughing)
00:23:12 So when you stick it in your body and it cools down,
00:23:17 then what is it doing in your veins?
00:23:20 So you're wondering why you can't take a briefcase
00:23:25 across the street because your heart is clogged
00:23:28 with all of that grease that you ate and put on yourself.
00:23:33 Now, it's all right to get a pork chop,
00:23:35 but you can't get it every day.
00:23:37 (congregation laughing)
00:23:41 Ham steaks for breakfast.
00:23:46 I mean, I'm living good.
00:23:49 (congregation laughing)
00:23:52 You're living good, but you ain't gonna live long.
00:23:55 Amen, I take a little bit and I go about my business.
00:23:59 Amen, then I come to your funeral.
00:24:01 I'll be looking at you over there.
00:24:03 You ain't looking at me.
00:24:05 Say, "Well, you eat like a rabbit."
00:24:06 Yeah, but I'm still eating.
00:24:08 (congregation laughing)
00:24:12 Whatever's in the fridge that gels,
00:24:20 you shouldn't eat, but take it in tempers.
00:24:26 Whatever's in the freezer that don't freeze.
00:24:31 (congregation laughing)
00:24:35 You shouldn't drink.
00:24:36 (congregation laughing)
00:24:40 I wish I talked to some grown folk up in here,
00:24:44 but if you do, take it in temperance.
00:24:46 (congregation laughing)
00:24:50 Temperance.
00:24:55 I used to think that God did not want me to enjoy life,
00:25:04 but I found that if you buy a decent car,
00:25:08 it comes with a manual.
00:25:09 And if you are a human being who wants to enjoy life,
00:25:15 you've got a manual.
00:25:18 And that manual is called the Bible.
00:25:21 And if you follow that Bible,
00:25:23 you will live your life to the fullest extent
00:25:26 and enjoy everything that God got out here
00:25:29 instead of just focusing on one thing.
00:25:33 I'm sitting in the bishop's board once,
00:25:36 sitting in the bishop's board,
00:25:38 and they got real holy in the bishop's board,
00:25:43 and they start talking to me.
00:25:45 Well, I hear that some of our bishops are having wine.
00:25:49 And I hear they're drinking champagne.
00:25:57 And they went on and on and on
00:26:01 and forgot all the business that we had to do,
00:26:03 and they talked about some other.
00:26:05 So finally I said, "Gentlemen, may I say something?"
00:26:10 I said, "Now, I'd like to say something if you'd let me."
00:26:14 He said, "Go ahead, Bishop Jones, go ahead, Bishop Jones."
00:26:18 I said, "When I read the Bible,
00:26:21 I saw winebibbers and gluttons."
00:26:27 I said, "Now, you all can try to speculate
00:26:31 as to who the winebibbers are."
00:26:33 (congregation laughing)
00:26:38 But we ain't gotta ask no questions, huh?
00:26:52 You cannot condemn somebody in your holiness
00:26:57 for one thing when you're doing something else
00:27:02 that's just as excessive.
00:27:05 I wish somebody'd understand what I'm saying.
00:27:08 I'm not condemning the way you wanna live, live your life.
00:27:12 But God says if you put some temperance in it,
00:27:16 you can enjoy it better.
00:27:19 If you have to do everything
00:27:21 to the extent that it's almost killing you,
00:27:24 then what good is it?
00:27:26 See, part of the problem now,
00:27:28 because temperance is gonna lead to patience,
00:27:31 and patience is hupermony.
00:27:34 And in order to really be patient, you gotta be temperate.
00:27:38 You gotta know when to hold and when to wait
00:27:41 for God to deliver what it is you need.
00:27:44 If you don't know how to hold,
00:27:46 you jump for something that you don't need to have.
00:27:49 How many times have you been impatient
00:27:51 and had to come back over it again,
00:27:53 and oh God, can I preach like I feel it?
00:27:56 Sometimes what God has for you is coming,
00:28:01 is coming, is coming, is coming,
00:28:06 but you couldn't wait because you had to have it now.
00:28:10 So you end up with something now,
00:28:12 and while you're in the something now,
00:28:14 you see what God had coming for you had you just waited.
00:28:18 But now you gotta get out of what it is
00:28:22 that you ain't supposed to have
00:28:24 in order to get yourself clear
00:28:26 for what you're supposed to have, but had you waited.
00:28:30 Oh, I wish somebody would understand me.
00:28:35 If you just waited on the Lord,
00:28:38 but you gotta have it now,
00:28:40 'cause you ain't got no control.
00:28:48 I'm writing checks now
00:28:50 because impatience.
00:28:54 Wait on the Lord.
00:28:57 Wait on the Lord, and when you're waiting,
00:29:02 you're not just sitting there like you at a bus stop.
00:29:06 That ain't what he's talking about.
00:29:11 Serve him like you serving a table.
00:29:14 Serve him like you serving a sick person.
00:29:18 Serve him like you're serving somebody in hospice,
00:29:21 just finding things and working it out.
00:29:24 And let me tell you something, nobody tips like God.
00:29:28 (congregation cheering)
00:29:31 Oh, I'm telling you, all of that chastity and living right,
00:29:37 and all of your friends running and clubbing
00:29:40 and half naked all the time,
00:29:42 and you half dressed and looking good
00:29:45 and trying to be righteous,
00:29:47 and every man hit on you, you're telling him,
00:29:49 "No, you ain't the one, baby."
00:29:51 You ain't got to jump for everything.
00:29:53 And then when God send you something,
00:29:56 you ain't got no record to hide.
00:29:58 You ain't got to be covering up no whole lot of stuff.
00:30:01 Mama, don't you tell him what, don't bring it up.
00:30:05 You ain't got none of that.
00:30:06 You can walk in a room and can't no man point a finger
00:30:09 at you and say that.
00:30:11 (congregation cheering)
00:30:15 I wish somebody would understand me.
00:30:18 I could give somebody a high five and say,
00:30:20 "All right, been there, done that,
00:30:22 but thank God for the blood.
00:30:25 Thank God for the blood.
00:30:26 He washed me so it's like I ain't never been there.
00:30:30 I ain't never done that, and I'm ready now.
00:30:32 I learned how to wait on the Lord.
00:30:35 I know how to be patient until the Lord bless me."
00:30:38 Can I tell you something about the Lord blessing you?
00:30:41 You'll forget all the time when you didn't have anything.
00:30:44 He'll bless you so good right now,
00:30:47 you won't remember when you were broke.
00:30:50 (congregation cheering)
00:30:53 He'll bless you with a man or woman so nice,
00:30:55 you won't remember them old devils you used to run from.
00:30:59 (congregation cheering)
00:31:09 Oh, I feel like dancing in here.
00:31:11 Gotta be tempering.
00:31:18 My sister's in town.
00:31:21 She was at Hollywood Bowl the other day,
00:31:26 and she was getting down all the way down
00:31:35 in heels this big, bouncing with Janay, Renee,
00:31:40 Manei, Sauté, what is her name?
00:31:45 (congregation laughing)
00:31:48 Both of them dancing in the Hollywood Bowl,
00:31:52 and one of them that's dancing is over 70 years old.
00:32:02 Heels this tall, two hours of just straight doing it.
00:32:06 At 77 years old.
00:32:12 That ain't all DNA.
00:32:15 That's temperance.
00:32:20 That's not taking it too far.
00:32:24 Hear me.
00:32:29 Now you get a party with my sister when she's partying.
00:32:33 It's two weeks.
00:32:38 Some graces, we leaving now.
00:32:45 Oh, you just got here.
00:32:47 That's five days ago.
00:32:49 I was over in Europe,
00:32:58 and the voice of Monaco is a friend of mine.
00:33:01 He was here in church the other day.
00:33:03 His mother's 92 years old,
00:33:06 and when I got to Paris, she said,
00:33:10 "I would send my mother over there,
00:33:11 "but she'd want you to go to the club with her."
00:33:14 92?
00:33:14 What's she gonna do in a club at 92?
00:33:21 Temperance.
00:33:25 Temperance.
00:33:26 It extends your life.
00:33:32 It extends the enjoyment,
00:33:34 and temperance automatically moves to patience,
00:33:39 and that is to remain under trials
00:33:44 and testing in a way that pleases and honors God.
00:33:49 There's a question I have to ask that I ask myself,
00:33:53 and I won't keep you all day,
00:33:55 and the question I ask myself
00:33:59 is if I'm into some situation
00:34:04 that I didn't bring on myself,
00:34:06 but it causes me to pray and causes me to be close to God,
00:34:12 why am I in a hurry to get out of it?
00:34:16 Why am I in a hurry to get out of it?
00:34:19 The scripture tells me that I have got to learn
00:34:28 to hupamone or to remain under it,
00:34:33 giving up the glory,
00:34:35 not because of what I'm into,
00:34:42 but because of what it's producing.
00:34:47 My daughter's working on a PhD then.
00:34:51 She's a doctor now,
00:34:52 and her complaint to me was how hard it was,
00:34:56 and soon as people are studying and things get hard,
00:35:01 they wanna quit.
00:35:05 I couldn't understand something in college.
00:35:07 I couldn't understand why they would let you
00:35:11 drop a subject that was difficult.
00:35:16 It seemed to me like I'm in college to learn,
00:35:22 so I keep all the courses I can handle,
00:35:27 and I drop the ones that's difficult.
00:35:32 Now, if that's not oxymoronic and antithetical,
00:35:34 I don't know what is.
00:35:36 I went to learn.
00:35:39 When you start praying and asking God for patience,
00:35:42 which patience is a part of this,
00:35:45 you can't make it without patience,
00:35:50 and faith, when it's being tried,
00:35:54 worketh patience, and let patience have its perfect work.
00:36:00 I'm gonna talk to you about waiting.
00:36:09 I ain't nothing, and my wife is impatient.
00:36:12 Yeah, come on, I'll put the buckle in the bag.
00:36:20 Oh, let me have it.
00:36:21 Let me have it.
00:36:22 Oh, can't you wait a minute?
00:36:24 (audience laughing)
00:36:27 I learned over my life,
00:36:31 and maybe when she gets to my age,
00:36:33 she'll be patient.
00:36:39 I used to find that I wanted something right now,
00:36:42 and I was a stereo buff,
00:36:44 and because I loved the stereo equipment,
00:36:50 I would go into Dallas,
00:36:51 and I would do a lot of things
00:36:53 that maybe I wouldn't do now,
00:36:55 but I'd take a stack of records into Dallas
00:36:59 from Longview, Texas.
00:37:00 I'd go to Dallas, and I'd take a stack of records,
00:37:02 and I'd go into the high-end stereo shops.
00:37:05 I mean, Wilson Speakers, $100,000,
00:37:10 and I'd sit there and play all my records
00:37:15 like I was gonna buy something, you know?
00:37:17 Just enjoy the whole day up in Dallas,
00:37:24 get back in my car and go home,
00:37:26 but I loved the stereo equipment,
00:37:28 but I had to have it now,
00:37:34 and I'd spend twice as much to get it now
00:37:39 than to send to Jersey
00:37:43 where they'd sell the same equipment.
00:37:45 They'd mail it to you at half the price,
00:37:50 but you had to wait.
00:37:51 You had to wait.
00:37:55 You know everything over on Neiman is going on sale,
00:38:04 but you got to have it now.
00:38:06 I'll never buy a new car.
00:38:10 I don't care how much money I have,
00:38:12 because once it rolls off the lot,
00:38:18 the depreciation hit.
00:38:21 Now, why should I?
00:38:23 I'll sit right at the car dealer.
00:38:25 Say, "Yeah, go buy that one.
00:38:29 "That's looking real good."
00:38:31 Till it come off the lot.
00:38:33 Now, let me know when you're gonna sell it.
00:38:35 Wait.
00:38:38 There's something about being able to wait
00:38:43 that calls you to make the right deal in business,
00:38:48 because you waited.
00:38:53 You waited until the price got to where it should be.
00:38:57 Yeah, you could've bought it before,
00:39:01 but being able to wait,
00:39:02 and in order to wait, you got to control your appetency,
00:39:08 because if you can't control it,
00:39:12 somebody will manipulate you into doing something.
00:39:16 Why are you in such a hurry?
00:39:17 My mother told me, she said,
00:39:22 "If it's too good to be true."
00:39:29 I said, "My mother, too good to be true?"
00:39:31 She said, "No, no, no, you're saying it too fast.
00:39:33 "Slow down how you say it."
00:39:39 I said, "Okay, Mom."
00:39:41 She said, "Too good to be true.
00:39:46 "Slow it down."
00:39:55 I know he can rap, honey.
00:39:58 (audience laughing)
00:40:00 The sweetest, finest thing I've ever seen in my life.
00:40:04 (audience laughing)
00:40:05 Oh, really?
00:40:06 Slow down.
00:40:08 Slow down.
00:40:11 Get some word on his background.
00:40:15 Get some word on our background.
00:40:17 See, we bring our minds in after our heart has committed.
00:40:22 Then here come our mind.
00:40:26 When does your mind kick in?
00:40:28 When the pain starts.
00:40:30 When it starts hurting.
00:40:37 Now you're starting to ask questions
00:40:40 when you've already employed somebody without a resume.
00:40:44 And why can't I look in your past
00:40:53 before we move forward this future?
00:40:57 (audience member speaking faintly)
00:41:00 Amen, what is it you need to tell me?
00:41:03 See, then some of us think we can lie
00:41:06 better than other people can deal with the truth.
00:41:10 Somebody send that out.
00:41:11 I'm lying to a woman when she can deal with the truth.
00:41:19 You lying to a man when he can deal with the truth.
00:41:26 And then you don't give the individual
00:41:27 the right to make the choice.
00:41:29 Amen, because a lie is nothing.
00:41:32 When you lying to me, you ain't told me anything.
00:41:37 So I'm making decisions on nothing.
00:41:42 Oh, you figure I can't deal with your past.
00:41:48 Why would you think I couldn't deal
00:41:52 with what you've been through,
00:41:53 particularly when you don't know what I've been through?
00:41:56 Maybe what I've been through and what I've done
00:41:58 has qualified me to deal with anything you can do.
00:42:01 Oh, I feel like shouting on that
00:42:04 because that's the showing of truth.
00:42:06 And you never let people disqualify you
00:42:09 because of your experience.
00:42:11 Because you don't know your experience has qualified you
00:42:16 to deal with that devil you trying to convert.
00:42:19 (audience laughing)
00:42:22 Somebody less than you couldn't have stayed
00:42:26 with her that long.
00:42:27 And the other way around.
00:42:31 Patience, temperance.
00:42:36 Why should you lose your job
00:42:41 because you can't control your mouth?
00:42:45 (audience laughing)
00:42:49 (audience member shouting)
00:42:51 Talk to me now.
00:42:52 Why?
00:42:55 Because if you got God nature,
00:42:57 he that keepeth his spirit is greater
00:43:03 than he that taketh a city.
00:43:05 Control my mouth.
00:43:08 Don't get so mad I black out.
00:43:14 (audience laughing)
00:43:16 Talk to me now, I'm looking at you.
00:43:18 I'm looking at the white of your eyes.
00:43:20 I can tell everybody gets so mad.
00:43:23 Don't matter where you are.
00:43:26 And then you think to revel in the fact
00:43:30 that somebody like you better be careful
00:43:32 'cause she crazy.
00:43:33 I don't wanna be known as crazy.
00:43:37 That is not suitable to somebody with dignity
00:43:43 to be known as crazy.
00:43:46 And I'm too self-aware and I'm too content
00:43:50 with who I am for you to make me feel bad
00:43:53 over insulting me in public.
00:43:55 My father told me a long time,
00:43:57 "Don't argue with fools."
00:43:59 I said, "Why, dad?"
00:44:00 "Because the folk don't know who's who."
00:44:03 (audience laughing)
00:44:06 You can't teach children respect.
00:44:17 If you can't control yourself
00:44:19 and say anything you choose to the person
00:44:23 who's close to you.
00:44:25 Well, I married a fool.
00:44:28 Well, only a fool would marry a fool.
00:44:31 And here's what you're gonna tell me.
00:44:36 Nobody fooled me, exactly what I mean.
00:44:45 This sounds simple,
00:44:47 but this is the divine nature.
00:44:50 This is how God is.
00:44:54 And then he moves from there to this patience.
00:44:58 Now, I want you to notice the switch.
00:45:02 There are three main things here
00:45:05 that I discovered while I was away.
00:45:07 Everything up till patience is working on me.
00:45:14 And then he switches to godliness.
00:45:19 Godliness is well,
00:45:26 and ooh is well,
00:45:29 and subumai is to be devout.
00:45:32 So it is now a pious attitude towards God.
00:45:41 So I've worked on myself.
00:45:43 Now I gotta work on my relationship with God.
00:45:48 Now, please tell me,
00:45:51 if I am God conscious,
00:45:58 and I think that's one thing
00:45:59 that I struggled with all the time in my life
00:46:02 as I tried to get closer to God,
00:46:04 is God consciousness.
00:46:08 That God consciousness eliminates certain behavior.
00:46:13 I ain't giving an example of what I mean.
00:46:17 I'm bothered by you because you,
00:46:20 through your Christian attitude,
00:46:23 made me mad, and you know how to do it.
00:46:25 You go to rebuking people.
00:46:27 Amen, and you ain't rebuking them
00:46:30 trying to get the devil out of them.
00:46:31 You're trying to hurt somebody's feeling.
00:46:37 Amen, there's a whole lot of Christians like that
00:46:39 with that superimpose their insults on you
00:46:42 in the name of God.
00:46:43 Rebuke you, and let me tell you,
00:46:46 one of the worst things that you can do
00:46:48 when you come to church is sit beside a whisperer.
00:46:51 A whisperer.
00:46:56 And when folk don't like you, they whisper loud.
00:47:00 Because they want you to hear.
00:47:05 And they think that's godly.
00:47:07 But it's not.
00:47:07 A pious spirit towards God does not allow you to ever say,
00:47:14 even when you're feeling upset,
00:47:17 would not allow you to say,
00:47:19 if I didn't have them Holy Ghosts,
00:47:20 wait till we get outside,
00:47:24 'cause I ain't gonna do nothing to you in the church.
00:47:27 If my awareness of God is only in the church,
00:47:34 when I come to church for two hours in this building a week,
00:47:39 then I'm nowhere close to what God would have me to be.
00:47:45 I don't care what position I hold.
00:47:47 Because position don't make you godlike.
00:47:51 We got a whole lot of devils in position
00:47:55 who have no attitude and have no proper decorum
00:47:59 towards their brothers and their sisters,
00:48:01 and certainly don't have any relationship with God.
00:48:05 Because when you have a relationship with God,
00:48:08 you're conscious of his presence at all times.
00:48:12 I feel like shouting in here.
00:48:17 You know he's there.
00:48:18 I'm with a group of brothers playing basketball
00:48:24 when I used to.
00:48:26 And they go to cuss and, oh, sorry, Reverend.
00:48:28 I said, man, don't cuss all you want to around me.
00:48:31 (congregation laughing)
00:48:34 Don't worry about me.
00:48:36 There's one who sits high and he looks low.
00:48:42 And before you go into your tirade,
00:48:46 if you have godliness, what it does is
00:48:50 it groups everything that we previously talked about
00:48:55 and makes it functional.
00:48:58 Because my temperance, my patience,
00:48:59 everything that I work on myself
00:49:02 is because I want to be that self
00:49:04 that is conducive to the fact that God is there.
00:49:08 So I'm not living to please you.
00:49:11 I'm living to please him.
00:49:12 So I don't feel like a flunky when you insult me
00:49:16 and I keep my mouth shut
00:49:18 because I'm really not trying to please you.
00:49:21 I'm trying to please him.
00:49:22 And I know that when he was persecuted,
00:49:25 he opened not his mouth.
00:49:27 (congregation cheering)
00:49:31 Why are you answering everybody on social media
00:49:38 when you were the one who put your business out?
00:49:43 (congregation cheering)
00:49:46 You're the one who put your business out.
00:49:56 (congregation laughing)
00:49:58 You didn't have to be dancing like that in the public.
00:50:01 Amen.
00:50:05 You didn't have to have that kind of conversation
00:50:11 and let everybody in your business.
00:50:13 Now they all over you.
00:50:17 Now you gotta respond.
00:50:21 Let me tell you, I'm gonna give you a little secret.
00:50:25 All right, give me a little secret.
00:50:26 Maybe I should take off before I give you this one.
00:50:28 (congregation laughing)
00:50:31 Some people only get noticed
00:50:38 when they're responding negatively to you.
00:50:43 Would nobody know they existed
00:50:48 until they attacked you.
00:50:53 (congregation cheering)
00:50:55 And you can negate the fact that they pop their head up
00:51:00 if you don't answer.
00:51:03 Let me go and tell you another thing too.
00:51:07 The devil always has an answer to your response,
00:51:12 but he has no answer to silence.
00:51:15 (congregation cheering)
00:51:21 He can't say what you said when you didn't say anything.
00:51:26 You're the one who put your business out.
00:51:33 I didn't know you weren't getting along with her.
00:51:35 (congregation laughing)
00:51:38 Last time I saw you all, you were smooching and kissing.
00:51:40 I didn't know you all was having a problem.
00:51:43 I didn't know you went out and bought that pretty car.
00:51:50 Why I got to tell everybody what car I drive?
00:51:53 I'll tell you I've been on vacation when I come back.
00:52:01 I ain't gonna have you up in my house taking my stuff
00:52:05 while I've gone bragging about it.
00:52:08 I'm boasting about where I am.
00:52:10 Oh, that's where he is.
00:52:17 See, a preacher that travels
00:52:20 has to have a wife that's faithful.
00:52:22 Gotta have a good woman that's gonna be home
00:52:28 because all she gotta do is check the stream.
00:52:33 Oh, that Negro is in Dallas.
00:52:35 You all understand, you put your business out.
00:52:48 Now you're frustrated and mad
00:52:51 with everybody who has an opinion
00:52:53 whose opinion doesn't matter.
00:52:56 But the only reason their opinion has some strength
00:53:00 is because you opened the door.
00:53:03 And you opened the door.
00:53:08 And you didn't say it explicitly, but you said it
00:53:16 subvertively or subterraneously.
00:53:20 Here's what you said, what is your opinion?
00:53:22 That's what you were asking, why you put it out there
00:53:27 if you didn't wanna comment?
00:53:30 So now you've added the pressure
00:53:36 of being God-like in a situation
00:53:40 that's totally unnecessary.
00:53:43 So here you've worked on yourself.
00:53:46 Now you work on your relationship with God.
00:53:49 Now what else?
00:53:50 Anytime you have a relationship with God,
00:53:55 it is expressed in how you treat your brother.
00:53:58 So after godliness, what comes?
00:54:01 My brothers don't sleep.
00:54:05 After godliness comes,
00:54:08 after godliness comes charity.
00:54:14 You work on yourself.
00:54:18 Now here is the theme that we've had for 20 something years
00:54:24 that we put in the corner
00:54:27 because we're doing new direction now.
00:54:30 The theme is reconcile to God,
00:54:33 reconcile to self, and reconcile to each other.
00:54:39 There ain't nothing else for a Christian to do.
00:54:44 You're worried about getting a car and a house from God.
00:54:47 That's all you're worried about.
00:54:53 And I wanna see the administrator,
00:54:56 I wanna see demonstration of the spirit.
00:55:00 Where is the power?
00:55:02 Let me tell you something.
00:55:05 It takes more power for you to pray for them
00:55:09 that despitefully use you than for you to be healed.
00:55:13 You wanna know power?
00:55:17 Look in yourself.
00:55:20 Not looking at somebody who's gifted to do something
00:55:24 because when you're gifted to do something,
00:55:26 you don't work for it.
00:55:27 Amen, I give you a gift,
00:55:29 you walk up to me and say,
00:55:30 Bishop Jones, I get you a gift,
00:55:32 I got you a car as a gift.
00:55:34 And with the car, you give me a payment book?
00:55:37 (audience laughing)
00:55:40 There ain't no gift.
00:55:42 I've been married before.
00:55:46 And Christmas time,
00:55:51 they would go down and get me the most wonderful gifts.
00:55:55 But I had the bill when it was over.
00:55:58 You just pick what you wanted me to have,
00:56:03 but I got to pay for it.
00:56:06 (audience laughing)
00:56:09 That's no gift.
00:56:09 When you get a gift, God says,
00:56:13 the gifts and callings are without,
00:56:15 the callings and gifts are without repentance.
00:56:17 He gives gifts freely.
00:56:21 But there's a difference between the gifts of the spirit
00:56:27 and the fruit of the spirit.
00:56:29 In order to operate in the fruit of the spirit,
00:56:32 you gotta work on you.
00:56:35 That's a job.
00:56:37 I'm getting ready to close.
00:56:41 You want what God gives,
00:56:47 but you don't wanna be like him.
00:56:49 But he didn't die
00:56:54 simply to give you something.
00:56:59 He died so you can be like him.
00:57:01 I wish somebody'd understand it.
00:57:04 And what he died to remove, he will not live with.
00:57:09 Died to change me,
00:57:14 to be like him.
00:57:17 And he predestinated that I be formed
00:57:22 into the image of his son.
00:57:24 As I conclude, what kind of world would we have?
00:57:27 Because now you move to Agape,
00:57:31 and that's his love.
00:57:35 And then when you move to Agape,
00:57:36 you gotta go to brotherly kindness.
00:57:39 Kindness is lacking.
00:57:42 What word do you have for me that's kind?
00:57:46 How can you help me out of the depression I'm feeling?
00:57:49 How can you speak to me?
00:57:51 Do you know that when people can encourage you
00:57:54 and speak to you positively to lift your spirit,
00:57:58 do you know that it's rare?
00:58:02 It's very, very, very rare
00:58:06 for somebody to be able to talk to you.
00:58:09 You spend all that money at the psychologist
00:58:12 and the psychiatrist, they ain't talking.
00:58:15 You the one doing all the talking.
00:58:19 You might as well pay yourself.
00:58:25 (congregation laughing)
00:58:28 For somebody to come and give you a word
00:58:35 to change the negatives of your day,
00:58:40 that kindness that emits is a connection with God.
00:58:46 So after I work on myself and my connection with God,
00:58:51 then I can become an emissary of God
00:58:53 to speak into your life.
00:58:55 And when you have somebody who speaks into your life
00:58:59 that builds you up, we got enough people tearing us down.
00:59:03 We need somebody who knows how to build us up.
00:59:07 And maybe, just maybe,
00:59:09 when people are reaching out in social media,
00:59:13 they're reaching, hoping for somebody
00:59:16 that will send them a word to build them up.
00:59:18 But you're dealing in wicked territory.
00:59:23 You're going into the enemy's camp
00:59:25 looking for somebody to help you.
00:59:27 It ain't gonna happen.
00:59:28 Isn't it marvelous to be the kind of person
00:59:38 that when you walk in a room, the atmosphere changes?
00:59:41 Isn't it marvelous that when you walk away
00:59:49 and get ready to go, people are refreshed?
00:59:53 Talk to me, somebody.
00:59:55 People are refreshed.
00:59:56 I don't wanna be the kind of person,
01:00:00 I'm coming down the street
01:00:01 and you see me coming down towards you.
01:00:04 Oh.
01:00:04 I'm going the other way.
01:00:09 I wanna be the kind of person
01:00:14 that people like to be around.
01:00:18 Not because I'm the one writing the check.
01:00:21 (audience laughing)
01:00:23 But because of the effervescence,
01:00:26 the luminous spirit of God that's flowing through me.
01:00:32 Because I put together myself.
01:00:35 I put together my relationship with God.
01:00:37 Now I wanna express it.
01:00:39 So what is it?
01:00:41 It's God loving us through each other.
01:00:44 The best relationship you can have
01:00:48 is God loving you through somebody.
01:00:51 God bless you today.
01:00:54 I would want God to love somebody through me.
01:00:58 Use me to love, use me to heal, use me to make whole.
01:01:02 Use me.
01:01:04 And when it's from an agape standpoint,
01:01:07 you ain't got to pay it back.
01:01:09 Because this is just the way I am.
01:01:12 Look at your neighbor and say, this is the way I am.
01:01:15 Amen.
01:01:17 This is the way I am.
01:01:18 (audience cheering)
01:01:21 I wanna live my life so that somebody look at me and say,
01:01:29 "You ain't got to do no more.
01:01:31 "You've already done enough."
01:01:35 And to those of you who are watching,
01:01:38 this is where God wants to take you.
01:01:44 To that place where self has been reduced
01:01:49 and God has been increased.
01:01:54 To that place where he shines through you.
01:01:59 This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
01:02:04 This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
01:02:11 I'll get your keypad.
01:02:13 This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
01:02:17 God's calling you, come on.
01:02:18 Come on, somebody.
01:02:20 Let it shine.
01:02:22 Oh, everywhere I go, I'm going to let it shine.
01:02:28 (upbeat music)
01:02:34 (upbeat music)
01:02:37 (upbeat music)
01:02:39 (upbeat music)
01:02:42 (upbeat music)
01:02:44 (upbeat music)
01:02:47 (upbeat music)
01:02:49 (upbeat music)
01:02:52 (upbeat music)
01:02:55 (upbeat music)
01:02:57 (upbeat music)
01:03:00 (upbeat music)
01:03:02 (upbeat music)
