Bharwan Karela a unique and interesting delicacy made with bitter gourd. stuffed with the spiced masala to make it tasty and loveable. Try this and let us know how it turned out.
Ingredients:
(Serves 4)
- 500gms Bitter Gourd(Karela)
- Salt
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 2 Onions(Finely Chopped)
- 2 tbsp Gram flour
- 1/2 tsp Cumin Seed powder(roasted)
- 2 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
- 1 tsp Coriander & Cumin seed powder
- 2 tsp Fennel seed powder
- 1/2 tsp Garam masala
- 1/2 tsp Chaat masala
- 2 tbsp Roasted peanuts
- 2tbsp fresh coconut (grated)
- Water
Method:
1. Take a Bitter gourd(karela), cut the side and clean the peel
2. Slit in the center and scoop out all the seeds
3. Do the same, for all the 500Gms bitter gourd
4. Add a dash of salt on top of the Bitter Gourd, mix it well and let it sit for 10 minutes
5. Take 2 tsp oil in a pan and add onions
6. Saute it well for around 2-3 minutes, then add gram flour and let it roast with onions
7. Add roasted cumin seed powder, Kashmiri red chilli, coriander & cumin seed powder, fennel seed powder, garam masala, chaat masala, roasted peanuts, salt and mix it.
8. Add freshly grated coconut, add little water and let it cool
9. Rinse the bitter gourd and dry it
10. Fill it with the prepared filling and tie it with thread
11. Heat some oil and then cook the bitter gourd.
12. Add salt and let it cook for about 10 mins
13. Take the leftover filling and add water to make gravy
14. Chop the threads and serve it with the gravy.
