PRESENTED BY AL PARKINSON

The Mae Trio is a Melbourne-based band of three young musicians fast making a name for themselves in the Australian music scene. Maggie Rigby (banjo, ukulele, guitar, marimba and vocals) Elsie Rigby (fiddle, ukulele and vocals) and Anita Hillman (cello, bass and vocals) started playing music together late 2011. All three members of the trio write their own songs and these are tastefully arranged to suit the group's diverse instrumental talents and love of three part vocal harmony.

The Mae Trio were the recipients of the 2013 Folk Alliance Youth Award at the National Folk Festival.

Maggie and Elsie Rigby have been performing in the Australian Folk scene (as well as tours of New Zealand and the U.K.) from the ages of 14 and 12 with family band The Rainmakers. They were the winners of the Lis Johnston Award for Vocal Excellence at the National Folk Festival 2011. Anita Hillman has played since 2009 with successful folk band Evelyn's Secret as well as performing with the Melbourne Scottish Fiddle club and the Geoff McArthur quartet.

Amongst the trio's influences are bands such as The Wailin' Jennys, Kate Rusby, Crooked Still and Gillian Welch as well as pasta with tomato sauce, Jane Austen and red wine.

The Mae Trio has performed at major Australian festivals including Port Fairy Folk Festival, the National Folk Festival, FolkWorld Fairbridge Festival and the National Celtic Festival.

They released their debut album Housewarming (produced by Luke Plumb of Shooglenifty) in August 2013.
