Human Rights Day is being celebrated in Pakistan and other parts of the world on Saturday (today).

The United Nation had declared December 10 as the International Human Rights Day, the date when the world body had adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in year 1948.

UN General Assembly passed resolution 423 (V) in 1950, in which it asked all member countries to mark 10th December as the International Human Rights Day.

UN, on its website, stated that Human Rights Day calls on everyone to stand up for someone’s rights! Disrespect for basic human rights continues to be wide-spread in all parts of the globe.

“Extremist movements subject people to horrific violence. Messages of intolerance and hatred prey on our fears. Humane values are under attack,” the UN stated.
