Kathlene from Alabam - Carlings 2007

This tune was filmed by my youtube friend Glengillo when he visited the Stockamollan Jazz Festival in the south Sweden in June.
The tune you see and hear is a brandnew tune composed by father Hans Carling in April 2007. It is amazing that the family found time to get such an unknown composition ready for a festival. Gerd, Gunhild and Max are married, some with kids, how do they find the time not just to learn a piece like this but then also play it with such maturity.
We always seem to want to compare a new composition to former jazz composers or bandstyles. I think the Carling family here with a frontline of violin, trumpet and trombone is totally unique and original.
A few other composers who wrote tunes that were somewhat out of the ordinary were of course Wilber de Paris and also Scottish clarinettist Sandy Brown. Hans Carling certainly belongs to that group, although it may take until far past his lifetime before he gets that recognition. Remember painter Vincent van Gogh. He never sold one painting during his lifetime.
I hope you all enjoy the pleasure of hearing a brandnew jazz composition. Bravo for this talented family!
