Cuba: Voter Turnout Tops 88% in Local Elections

Voter turnout in Cuba's local elections held this past Sunday topped 88%, according to election officials. In Cuba, unlike some other Latin American countries, voting is not mandatory. Voters elected 11,425 candidates to municipal assemblies while 1,164 races will go to a second round on April 26 since no candidate received more than 50% of the ballots cast. teleSUR
