During his lifetime, Pratchett wrote over 70 books and was most recognized for his Discworld series. He finished writing his last book during the summer of 2014.
His death follows a battle with Alzheimer's Disease, something he was diagnosed with in 2007. The chief executive of the Alzheimer’s Society said the author helped to raise awareness for dementia and was very verbal in his pleas for greater funding for the disease he was living with.
The managing director at Transworld Publishers, Larry Finlay stated, "The world has lost one of its brightest, sharpest minds…In over 70 books, Terry enriched the planet like few before him."
Following his death, several heartfelt messages were posted to Pratchett's official Twitter account.
